...it could be done multiple ways without writing out every single line of g-code...and they can read up to 4gb flash memory. . E.g. Canned tool paths, macro programming and they will spoon-feed off a network.

How was that machine able to do that impeller blade? It doesn't have enough memory for that. Them lame controllers measure in Kilobytes to a couple Megs at best.

You drip feed or use a fat 16 formatted card, or one of many devices like you would with any machine you want to run large files. We have 3 robodrills, great little machines.

@@duediligence791 Yeah but, why should we put up with drip feeding the whole program? Restarting a drip feed with multiple tools is a pain. Memory isn't as scarce like it was the 80's, in which apparently what Fanuc thinks it is, seeing how cheap they are. I'd rather get a Haas, they offer at least a Gigabyte. Memory is very easy to come by. Fanuc has no excuse.

gredangeo most of our machines run 4gb to 16gb usb drives or flash cards and have no issues running efficiently or stopping and restarting. If you have difficulty you can always set your own reference point if you think you need to stop and restart. I don’t see why multiple tools makes it a pain. Our smallest programs require at least 3-4 tools and it goes up from there. Also memory expansions exist for many of the older machines. Some you can even use addition of a hard drive, others like Fadal you have Calmotion. Who cares if you have to spend $500 upgrading memory on a very capable machine. The robodrills far as I know including ours were all made 5 axis from the factory and the memory they came with was and is capable in running impeller files just fine. If you want to store every file you make on the machine then that’s likely going to be problematic at some point but no reason you need to keep all your files internal. Looking at our older 96 trump bed mill that has a good amount of files stored in its memory. If I had to put a number it must be well toward 6gb now. EssenriLly your concerns are a non issue and if you need a machine with more internal memory either upgrade it or buy a different model that has been or came factory with more storage. Even today they expect your likely using a usb stick. Less memory keeps costs down and focus on proficiency of machine rather than mass storage.

gredangeo, @Luther is correct they use 4gb flash cards. The internal memeory is SRAM and ours are 512mb which was probably a factory upgrade in 98. How do you think they made turbo impellers in the 70’s?? Robodrills, even our 98’s are more than capable of machining production volume of garret turbo impellers.

@@duediligence791 Multiple tools are a pain to drip feed, because the code isn't active to view, unless it's running. Which means, restarting from the top, and rerunning everything. It's just a simple file to call up, as if it's one continuous entity. Restarting separate tools require each tool to be a different program. We have at work a pos machine with only 500KB and it just sucks to needing to run anything larger than that.
Less memory may keep costs down, but a 500GB hard drive is only a few hundred dollars. Assuming you went all out on expenses to certify that drive for machine work, and not randomly fail, you would still only triple the price. And a few hundred dollars on a 6 Figure machine is nothing.
