There's not only Finnish Brutality, but also Desert Brutality, which is organised by InRangeTV & Varusteleka in Arizona, so that might be a bit closer for you than Finland.
@@lucastonoli3256 Desert Brutality has been going on since the mid 2000s. Finnish Brutality is fairly new. Varusteleka actually states on their website that FB has been going on since 2018.
@@Chopstorm. Well, I was wrong, but so are you. The first Desert Brutality started in 2018 too, you can look it up in the official website: "... the first Desert Brutality was held in 2018...". It's a few months of difference between the first Desert Brutality and the first Finnish Brutality, both were sponsored by Varusteleka. The concept isn't anything radically new, there are/were other similar competitions (mostly 2 gun action competitions), just not as popular or "standardized" if you want to call it something.
Finnish Brutality was a two day event for the competitors...Range Officers who shot the match did all the 8 stages on one day before the main match. That was rather exhausting. In Finnish Brutalities so far there haven't been weapon specific divisions, just iron sighted and optics and some gear based, Armored etc. You CAN shoot with a bolt gun and revolver if you want to make it harder for you, but no specific awards. The Desert Brutality matches have had more varied divisions, like Classic and Cold war, that placed restrictions on what kind of weapons you could use. Welcome to the Finland for the next Brutality, planned for the next summer. There is also the Woodland Brutality, i think it was in West Virginia next spring.
One of the things with the brutality events are that the round count is kept low and if possible, the stages are made so that you could potentially replicate them. The Kasarda drill being the best example of this. All you need is a kettlebell of sufficient mass, something to mark the boundaries like sticks, a target or two and a large enough space to shoot in. And would definitely recommend checking out desert brutality, the stateside sister event to this!

Well the Finnish Brutality is categorised as "SRA" (abbreviation of Sovellettu Reserviläisammunta), translation is something along the lines of 'Applied Reservist Shooting'. Which is why it closely represents "combat drills or scenarios" bit with the extra spice of it being a civilian competition.

You could always attend the Desert Brutality competitions they have out in Arizona or wherever. :-D As for the stock, the cold could have made the metal more brittle. It’s getting nippy here in the Nordic lands. ;) The Kasarda drill, by the way - with the kettle bell - the idea is to throw and shoot alternately for a specific length of time. Yeeting just makes you run further. :-p
No, the kind of cold that humans can survive for any length of time does nothing at all to the usual metals (not counting here some exotic metals liquid at RT). In general, extreme cold making metal brittle like ice only happens in Hollywood movies. Polymers, of course, could be a different thing. However, if you are designing a weapon, you wouldn't use any type of material that can't handle a bit of cold weather.
The theme for this one was the Continuation War, earlier this year there had been a planned one which had the theme of the Winter War and it was properly snowy, but that match turned into more of a demo by just a handful of competitors due to restrictions due to the virus. The flashlight on the Bloke's Bushmaster was part of the requirements for the division he was in. The stage times par times are all 180 seconds so for the Kasada drill you just keep going for the whole time, or until you can't keep going any more. The stage 8 spinner was particularly stiff according I think it was the Bloke on one of the videos from the event - maybe on InRange
Any plans on attending some of the stateside Brutality matches InRange organizes? There's Woodland Brutality in West Virginia some time in the spring, and probably a Desert Brutality in Arizona later in the next year. The weird bullpup Mike (Bloke From The Range) is using is a Bushmaster M17S. He talked about it in some of his own videos. Definitely check out InRangeTV if you like this style of competition shooting. Karl has his own videos from this and many other matches he has shot and organized. IMO you also get a better sense of the stages because they aren't as heavily edited.
@@CombatArmsChannel I wanna see how you'd deal with the spinner target which had been consistently talked about as one of the most difficult target to clear under time stress
So many reasons why I love your channel/videos, such a good natured, down to earth guy, an absolute good hearted gem you are and always a pleasure to watch, thank you for your work, truly 🤙
I think one of main reasons why that buttstock broke is because it's AR-style collapsing stock where buffertube makes it more ridgid where as in AK there is no tube going into that stock so it's empty and only connected to end of the gun with few screws, and if it's plastic... well plastic is plastic.
man I want to do this event more and more every video I watch, training goals for after the amputation, the Kasarda drill is brutal, Karl is a sick sick mind.
The Water Obstacles remind me of some Phys we did at Chatham Barracks. Once we had gotten through the majority of the session, they took us to the obstacle course to the water-filled tank traps and had us jump in. The only issue was that it was several degrees below zero and we had to jump through the ice. Once we were all in there, they had us answer questions on Drills and Corps history and every time we got one wrong, that was a full squat :D within about 30 seconds we were just giving the dumbest answers to the questions so we could get more squats! The PTI's loved that, thought we were nuts :D
I know Ian from Forgotten Weapons said that at Finnish Brutality they do not paint the targets. Which is most likely why he couldnt see the targets even with the magnified optic. The targets just blend into the background
Karl said, the stages are designed, so they can be completed with an iron sighted ak, as that is sort of the minimal setup people are currently running successfully in combat, but hard enough, that you can tell the advantages of more capable setups. Seems like Jari follows the same philosophy. Thats why the ranges are relatively short for the most part. The reason the targets are hard to pick up has more to do with the color. While in three gun you often have red or orange Targets, in Brutality matches they mostly are grey, which is hard to pick up on greyish backdrops. Also your glass may be pretty dirty by the time you actually get to shoot

Some things about Finland that you should tell your audience. Finnish is not an Indo-European language. It is similar to Hungarian and Turkish. Finns are not Scandinavian. My Norwegian grandparents and great aunts and uncles regarded a Finn and a Norwegian couple as “mixed”. Finnish was invaded in WWII by the Soviet Union. The Finns did a credible job resisting. Then the allied with Germany. They did lose 10% of their territory. Finns are a tough people who hate the Russians. Finland is a great place to visit. Helsinki has great architecture.
A modernized RPK... Other than the increased weight and encumberance due to length, are there any real downsides when compared to an AK? And since the barrel's longer, wouldn't it hit harder and more precisely?
There's no benefit to having a longer barrel than a typical ak(16') which is actually more than enough length to achieve the highest possible velocity with a 7.62x39.
The guy with the funky rifle is Bloke on the range, he tends to turn up to these wearing vintage issue kit and weapons along with Ian. cos you know it's not difficult enough so throw in some 50s pouches and wool uniform just to make your life even harder.
i think you would get used to the snow pretty quickly. In Finland, it's dark in the winter and the snow helps with how you move, etc. When I was the so-called the end of the war in 1999 i was. 48- celsius degrees what is Fahrenheit 118.4 degrees Fahrenheit.. So they complained about a little snow and a little frost. ;)
The guy with the Mosin-Nagant was probably the "Chap" from "Bloke on the Range". He came dressed in WW2 Winter War gear. His friend, the "Bloke", as a former british Army officer, at one time, dressed in British WW2 gear, with a Lee Enfield.
The brutality is having a week or two in the forest, keeping up the guards and getting a sleep deprivation of the third kind, and after that doing a hardcore orienteering drill in a competitive way. Before the finishing line, our team leader was out and was puking in the swamp. Just standing and puking. We carried him across the finish line. That's just conscription service, basic stuff. It was nasty and demanding in so many ways. But I see the point of that training now.

The PT Team defo have a lot of great shooters, Ziga (the guy with the tricked out AK) defo can do some miracles and I believe he placed 10th overall. Really should check his channel out, really cool guy and defo knows how to mix humour with actual tips. The AK he is using is a Zastava M70 underfolder which he modified to use an M4 stock adapter, railed handguard and dust cover. He's had it for quite a long time. Nearly ten years or more at least, and at least seven years since he had it heavily modified and it's seen lots of hard use. In most situations, AKs that have rear trunnions with an M4 stock buffer tubes or side folder adapters tend to work pretty well and are tough, though I don't have much info on underfolder adapters. Most likely it's just a matter of extensive hard use over the years, y'never know when the threads may give away on something. Who knows, maybe he'll move to an AK that has a stock tube staked in. He's not above shooting ARs, and he's pretty darn good with them too, maybe he'll take one into Finnish Brutality next year if viable.
Your pronunciation was pretty much spot on! Hope to see you do the match one day!

Oh and Theo...she was behaving when she mentioned her frozen body part. Finns tend to "color" their language quite a lot. 😂

Hyvää itsenäisyyspäivää!
BTW Ya should check some "SRA" videos too to check "normal" SRA-competitions :)
It's terrible but great experience. sounds just like my Scout experiences.
