  • Porsche Boxster prices held up extremely well during 2023 and this makes them a top pick if you are looking for a sports car with a low depreciation.

    Porsche boxsters defied the market trend in 2023 and lost significantly less. Even one of the worst performing categories, the 718 4 cylinders, still outperformed the market with a depreciation rate of -6%, while some 718 6 cylinders and 986s did not lose anything at all.
    This of course does not guarantee that boxsters will continue to depreciate at this rate in the future. All the talk about future prices is pure speculation, but there are currently no signs in the data that point towards an increase in depreciation.
    All in all this makes the boxster an excellent candidate for a buyer who cares about values. There is a choice for ever budget and right now, could be the best moment to buy as you can leverage on the winter discounts.

    Owned a 991 Speedster and a 718 Spyder, it’s not even close folks. The Spyder is the best manual Porsche ever made. Honestly the 981 Spyder was already in the conversation given its incredible sound and driving experience, but it wasn’t on the map until the 4 liter raised awareness. Once you fix the EPA WHO eugenicist BS on the 718, it outperforms a CGT and sounds exactly like an 812. I called it 3 years ago and still stand by this: Speedster and Spyder values should, and will, meet right at the $225k mark. It’s funny how bad I used to want a 964 or 993, and I still love them, very much. But they’re honestly hot leaky poo garbage compared to a 718 Spyder, or 718 GT4 for that matter. Over axle pipes and kill the valves. Come at me beetle bros.

      I have a 991.2 GT3 Touring manual and a 718 Spyder. I like driving the Spyder more. Had a 981 Spyder and sold it for a new Targa several years ago, big mistake. That is why I ordered the ‘21 Spyder.

      My 718 Spyder shares garage space with a 24’ Ferrari 296GTB. My plan was to sell it once the Ferrari arrived but I couldn’t bring myself to do it even though I’m living way beyond my means. I usually never keep cars but I will be keeping the Spyder for the long haul. As others have mentioned, it absolutely NEEDS over axle pipes and a valve controller. I actually have a full exhaust, BMC filters, and a tune that raises the redline to 8,200RPM and gives it a very angry, high revving flat 6 sound 🥰

      Newer cars are always taking a big hit, covid was just an outlier.
      I like the a110, but it was always priced too high, I understand why and it was a new design.
      Much of this hinges on the EV switch, is it going to happen and will this be the last run of petrol boxsterd, a110 etc.
      Personally, I'm going for the 981S, the flat 6 is quite rare in new cars and the gts 4.0 doesn't sound as good.
      If the A110 is replaced by an EV then price will stabilise but lower than here.
      All proces are soft until interests rates are cut.

    tbh, 981 generation of Caymans and Boxsters is probably one of THE most underrated cars.
    People make fun of them as hairdresser cars etc but the S and GTS trims (i'm even ignoring GT4 here) are a hoot. They sound so much better than 991.1 (i'm sorry but its true), its all that engine noise is just right up in your face, handles well and still looks modern. It also feels like its got more torque than the numbers suggest but by no means a high torque car or anything. Decently fast at around 4-4.5 seconds depending on what transmission.
    I think these bad boys will hold for a while. The base trims won't however. And poorly specced S trims will probably suffer too. PSE (porsche sport exhaust) feels like a must, it sounds just perfect and better than aftermarket options. Lots of volume, but not irritating, low drone, just the right amount of crackles.

    • @Jundaku
      @Jundaku 5 місяців тому

      Honestly, the PSE is a bit overrated. Sure it's nice that it's valved but I don't really think it does the 981S justice. I test drove a few car with it and I have to say, it's far better then the stock exhaust but not as good as some after market options. I ended up getting a 981S with the stock exhaust and then threw on a Borla exhaust for $1500 and its sounds just so much better then the PSE.
      I do agree that the numbers are miss leading. I was worried about the "low" torque but I'm surprised just how well it puts everything down. I've owned multiple BMWs with 400+ TQ and my daily is tuned to around 500TQ and my 981S doesn't feel like its any bit down on torque when I'm in the 3K+ RPM range. Even lower in the RPMs its not as bad as older NA V8s.

  • @Jundaku

    The 981S trend seems WAY off from reality. Cars are not going for close to their list prices. I spent all of this fall looking and following them. Sure they are 45-50k, but that's not what they are actually selling for. They are all sitting for months and dealers are taking far less for them. I just got a well optioned 981S that was listed for $45k for just $31k. There were plenty of dealers I was talking to that had cars listed for the mid 40s and were willing to sell them for mid 30s.

    • @fourwheeltrader
      @fourwheeltrader  5 місяців тому +2

      Seeing a lot of variation in the 981 data, some cars are indeed heavily discounted while others are only reduced by a few percentages. Nevertheless, they appear the be selling still relatively quickly.

    • @RobertSmith-bh5cv
      @RobertSmith-bh5cv 5 місяців тому +3

      I don't want to be "one of those guys", but... I've never heard of a dealer discounting any car over 30% unless they're liquidating because they're closing the doors. So if you really got that deal I hope you don't need warranty work from them because they might not be there.

    • @Jundaku
      @Jundaku 4 місяці тому +1

      @@RobertSmith-bh5cv high volume dealerships don’t like cars sitting on the lot for too long. They listed it for the “market” price, but all the cars at that price were sitting for 3-4 months. Hence the disconnect. After 6 weeks they sell their used cars to car max and that was the car max offer. Just need to be patient. Historically, I only get cars if they are good deals, as in 25-30% off MSRP. As for the Porsche, the only issue was electrical gremlins and a rear view mirror with failed glue. A new battery and some JB weld fixed both issues for under $200 and about 4 hours of my time.
