It was definitely safer before than it is now. Addis shouldn’t compare itself to other African cities; we need to perform much better than we are currently.
This area is like my home town and I be real… it is terrible. If you was to go to my road you would think you entered another world (Hagar Hullet) first left after the junction from Edna Mall.
I remember seeing someone get stabbed in front of me. It was a peaceful walk just past the middle of the day 3pm or so. I was walking and taking photos. But we must remember this tourism is taking place where people have Very Real Problems. Maybe fought someone the previous day... Or was accused of something hours earlier. So the police 🚨 may be warning for GREAT reasons that are oblivious to non-locals. I'm sure they know something you did not know. 🙏🏾Thanking God you are prayed for and City-Savvy!🙌🏾
Few years back, we used to stroll on the main roads the whole night in Addis even with my foreign friends, it used to be way way safer than now.
