- Day two in Ethiopia brought unexpected challenges as I navigated through language barriers while attempting to communicate with the locals, most of whom spoke Amharic, a language unfamiliar to me. Despite this initial hurdle, the day unfolded into a delightful adventure filled with enriching experiences.
Exploring three distinct areas-Meskel Square, the Mexico area, and the bustling Merkato market, reputed as the largest open-air market in Africa-offered a glimpse into the vibrant soul of Addis Ababa.
While cautioned about safety concerns in the Mexico area, I ventured forth with curiosity and found warmth and hospitality in the locals, who generously shared insights and directions, dispelling any apprehensions I may have had.
The ambiance at Merkato Market was equally inviting, with friendly faces eager to connect despite the language barrier that occasionally hindered our communication.

People thoughts that you are Ethiopia that's why they talked to you Amharic. One love from south sudan 🇸🇸 ❤️ Ethiopia 🇪🇹
The grass is to celebrate a holiday etc. it represents fertility, good luck, spring etc
Thank you for answering me. I was wondering what's it for.
Good job our Kenyan brother.
I'm Ethiopian living in Addis Ababa, it's fascinating that I'm learning why Mexico area is named Mexico that I never knew before. Thank you for that but the exact mexico square is right in front of the small park you showed. It's not your fault though. Very nice video thank you for your positive energy.
Kindly don't forget to like the video. I will also be happy to read your comments.
Merkato is a place where everything is sold and distributed to other cities. If you know where to look, you can find anything. It is a very wide area with a work force of thousands of people.
Grass is part of a coffee ceremony, and it implies festivity. They apply it at entrances to cafes and restaurants to remind you of having a good time. Sort of
That park you stood is part of Mexico Square but not the Square. You missed Mexico Square 10/15 metre away.
That Park you stood is part of Mexico Square but not the Square. You missed Mexico Square 10/15 meter away. Thank you for visiting.
Great job 👏 I like your positive vibes
I appreciate that. Thank you!
Welcome Ethiopia
Thank you for visiting us ❤
Oromo Cultural Center is so good. The Oromo Nation spans between Central Ethiopia to Northern Kenya then all the way to Tana River County kwa Coast.
Fascinating Stuff. Make sure to book a visit when you can.
Zeregna you should suggest to visit national museum instead of advising him to visit a ethnic that is know to hate the rest of the country.
, Don't expect They're speaking English Because English is not their language You are in Ethiopia 🇪🇹🥰 Welcome
English is an international language but Ethiopian language is only limited to Ethiopia
@@thedolamitechannel2756If you go to Asia , people don't speak English, but their own language. So, there's nothing new here. Not speaking Engish when you're living in your own country is not abnormal. I have to China and Thailand. This's normal.
very well explained about Mxiko sqeur and Adwa
Thank you ... God bless #ETHIOPIA'YE
Thank you
Welcome brother
Good job
Well come to Ethiopia the mother of Africa
by the way mexico square was the place with the sky scrapers located which is the big banks are located
Part of Mexico Square was utilised during the construction of the road that passes there and the light train line. There's is a huge roundabout there which area was part of the square. That's the information I got from a local.
The Grass in every interance you have seen and asked is usally fresh cut grass representing every hollyday to orthodox Christians Easter chrismas....
He came from Oromiyaa region farmer
No,it’s not meskel square, that’s a park meskel square is a huge area concerts, and church celebrations happen I mean that area and called is Meskel square
nice video.Mexico square is not the one u mentioned .there is square right in front of it .
It is more of a roundabout rather than a square. The Mexico roundabout was the one to your left from the place you stood. The whole nearby area is also called Mexico area. So it is understandable if there is a confusion.
Can you use Google and translate it to Amharic from English so you can communicate with Ethiopians who don't speak English.
You missed the whole Mexico area. You were walking on the backstreets of Mexico.
That gives me an opportunity to visit that place again. Thank you for taking your time out to watch and comment 🙏.
I was there last year to visit!!! Not that many people speak English!!! 😂
❤🎉❤🎉
Brother where did you get that information on 6;00 Meskel (መስቀል) means the cross of Jesus Christ that square never called Steven Squere check your facts
The square used to be called Stephen Square, but in early 1950 , it was renamed to Meskel square (Cross square as you rightly called it). In 1974, following the fall of the monarchy, Meskel Square was renamed Revolution Square (Abiyot Adebabay).
After Mengistu Haile Mariam fled Ethiopia in May 1991, the government of General Tesfaye Gebre Kidan restored the original name of Meskel Square. In 2020, Adidd Ababa minicipality announced plans to upgrade the square, and by June 2021, the upgrade was completed.
@@travelwithkim Meskel square is a place where the 'Demera' celebration is held, which is the eve of 'Meskel' Holiday. That has been going since Hailesilasie I. St. Stephen church is also nearby, right across HAYAT REGENCY Hotel. (You would have reached it if you crossed the street in front of you, as opposed to you crossing the one to your left)
That's not Mesqel square.
Meskel square mean…cross square…
Ethiopia folks are worried about religion but African don't care about religion
You have to learn Ethiopian language amharic
Traffic lights? Traffic cops?
Vipi babu. Sidhani watu hizo sides wanaongea English hivyo.
Video safi lakini.
Why are there no street hawking in Ethiopia? Only shoe shine boys
He already told that he cant speak English
The Name ' Mexico Squere' is given in honer of Mexico who supported Ethiopia at second Ethio-Italy war not at the time of Menlik rather at the time of Emperor Haileselasie after the formation of league of Nations. Brother check your facts before your public Utterances you are misinforming your followers
I stand corrected on that. That was an error. It was Haile Selasie and not Menlik.
Ethiopia has their on language don’t expect them to speak English
It’s ridiculous there’s no food to eat they’re borrowing money from foreign governments in the name of Ethiopia but building the government ethnic group separate cultural center? What’s that supposed to mean this’s why Ethiopians are fighting one ethnic domination is illegal either Oromo’s have to have their own country inside Ethiopia only one ethnic can’t use the nation money to benefit only one group.
I hope Oromo’s will go start their own country the rest of Ethiopia will live peacefully
Stop harassing and trying to speak in English to everyone like everyone speaks it
