- Hello! In today’s video I just wanted to share some insight into what an OA at Western Governors University (WGU) is and how they work! This video includes an overview of the pre-assessment, coaching reports, and the proctoring experience. Objective Assessments can be kind of intimidating but once you know how to work through them accelerating can become a breeze!

Thank you! I start at WGU October 1st so this video was extremely helpful.
Thank you for all the great info! I waited to take my OA courses at the end so this was super helpful!
I’m taking my first OA next Saturday. It’s Intro to IT. I passed the PA but I’m sooooo nervous. Thank you for going over what it’s like! It has definitely given some insight 😊
Good luck
How was the test? I am taking mine tomorrow. Super nervous here. SOS lol
@@CesarRuiz-zz3cz For which class?
@@CesarRuiz-zz3cz I’m majoring in Cybersecurity. The first exam I had was for Intro to IT. I passed 😊. For the actual exam process it’s easy. Just make sure the proctor has a clear view of your hands, keyboard, and face. The proctors I’ve had have been nice so far and patient. Good luck to you!
Very scared for my Upcoming semester, but youre making more confident. Ive decided to 'pre studying' all my courses before I officially start.
That’s an awesome idea! Your are going to do great!
A NaChele what material did you use to "pre study?" I'm very interested as I'm looking into WGU for my B.A. 🙂
@@ivett.e for every course GOOGLE IT and ull see recommended sites for study material, usually free .
This is a great video Brookelynne. Thanks for the concise and excellent information.
I’m getting ready to take my first OA and it’s been about 15 days since I started. Very helpful thanks
How was it
Thank you, I have my first test today and I’m so nervous. I didn’t know about the task manager thing
Thank you Brookelynne this was Very helpful!!! :)
Guess who is your 300th subscriber? I loved the video! This made me feel better
Great video! Thank you, Very helpful!
Thanks for the information.😊
I’m scared of proctored exams that’s why I was considering liberty university
I’ve got my first OA from WGU in about 2 hours. Nervous
The extremes of the exams are ridiculous I'm in masters and it's literally the worst
I just got off the phone because I was trying to pursue my BA in HIM but this camera stuff is crazy. Like I don’t mind because I’ve been working from home to where some companies wanna see you during trainings/meetings. It’s an affordable school but it’s like geesh? Lol.
Great info can you have notes on your whiteboard ?
Thanks Brookelynne
Thank you. It was really helpful. 👍
Ahh love ur voice, should do that ASMR stuff. Lol
Very lovely , thank you
Can you use a headset with microphone . I have adhd and it helps with distractions
Great video, How much information can you put on the whiteboard?
That's really ridiculous. I asked was this something that was done while testing someone told me no. They luck it's so cheap. This is scaring me as I have kids
I live next a busy road, in a townhouse with many people around, I have many pictures and decor (way too much to take down), and my computer is not able to be moved. >_
Very informative. Hopefully they use the same procedure with the Software Engineering program😅
That is crazy, who wants to go through that stress! pick UMPI!
Thanks for the info. NOT going to WGU
I was thinking the same. Where are you going? Lol
@@davidaqqad6679 Undecided between WGU and SNHU
Thanks!
im nervous about the proctored exams, my kids are loud I feel like I wont be able to take an exam lol
If they do make noise, the proctor will most likely just make you reshow your room so they can confirm there is no one else in there.
Excellent
At 2:20, you mentioned that you only need to use 20 minutes of the allotted time given to you for the tests? Am I hearing right? I always have to use at least 60-90 minutes.
Do you you have to face the camera to your keyboard ?
Hello and thank you for posting. So you can not go on with the course until you pass the OA?
Thanks for sharing, however, does WGU give you practice test before the main Test?
How many are the questions?
Does the camera have to face you and the key board or just the keyboard? Also I can't find the link to thr camera you have
How did you study for your Objective assessment?
If you fail do you just retake it?
What if you have pets that make noise
You said the test it will say first attempt, so that it means if a student fails the first time, it will be a second chance to repeat the test?
How many OA tests are there in a degree program!?
Very helpful information! Thank you. Which degree program are you in?
Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education but changing to the B.A in Educational Studies.
@@brookelynnenoel ok, that’s great! ;)
I start on Oct 1st. Getting my Bachelor of Science, Healthcare Services. I appreciate your videos so much. It’s been awhile since I’ve been in school this helps from the students perspective!!
@@brookelynnenoel does the educational studies lead to licensure?
@@FavuQuad no it does not, but my school district is offering me a job embedded learning license.
@@brookelynnenoel what does that mean?
This was very helpful…thank you! If my laptop has a camera, do I still need to purchase a separate one? I’m starting I. September.
Glad you enjoyed! Yes, even if you have a built in camera you have to buy an external one. This is just because they want to see your hands, room, desk, and the keyboard at all times. They also display clearer images for the proctors to see!
Is every test proctored or is it just the final exam? Also, do they allow open book? Thanks 😊
The actual unit quizzes are not required or proctored. If you think you know the material you can go ahead and take the pre-assessment to see what you need to study. This is not proctored or an official grade. Then, you will take the actual final exam which is proctored and the only test that will count for your grade. It is not open book or open note. Thanks for asking!!!
@@brookelynnenoel Great, Thank you for responding. You're super helpful!🥰
How many questions are typically on these OA exams?
In your experience, how often would these exams you took be proctored? Was it the midterm, final, both? Was it every class or just some classes? Just curious.
There’s not really a midterm/final. It’s just the end assessment.
Every class has one exam to pass, and it is proctored every time. A portion of the classes don't have an exam though, but a paper instead (or both).
So where exactly do you need to place the web cam? Facing you? Or the key board?
Facing the keyboard so you can see your hands and side profile.
Do you know how many times you can take the protest? And also what happens if you fail a test do you just fail it and move on or do you need to retake?
You can take the pretest as many times as you want, you just will get the same set of questions every time. With the actually test for the class, you have to pass it in order to pass the class. The chapter tests and quizzes in the course content don’t matter, but the end of course exam/test is a requirement to pass.
About how many classes were OAs and how many were projects??
I would say that it was about half and half. However, if a class had an OA, it usually had a small project/paper as well.
@@brookelynnenoel thank you so much ❤️
How do you share your screen, mouse, and keyboard?
You have to purchase an external camera, and then once you connect to your proctor, there is a share screen button on zoom that you have to enable.
Share your monitor screen and mouse? And also on webcam with them? I understand the webcam, but the rest? Why?
She said in the video because they need to type for you the code so you can begin testing
@@FavuQuad why do they need to type the code themselves? Why can’t they let the student type it? I’d assume it’s a one time thing kind of code.
Hi there! How many attempts do you get for an OA?
I’m not exactly sure on this, but I believe you get two free attempts and then have to pay for each attempt after that. I’m not sure how much the fee is, but I do know that some of the Facebook groups for WGU have posted before regarding this question so looking there may give you a bit more information than I can!
Hi if I don’t pass OA and need to retake
Is it the same exact exam?
If you fail do you get to retake the test, right away?
No, you have to contact your course instructor and they give you a study plan and assignments you have to complete before they allow you to take another test.
Hello! Im about to start on November, typically how long does it take you to finish a course?
If I put my mind to it, I can usually finish an easy course in 12 hours. However, I am bad at procrastinating so I average a class a week.
@@brookelynnenoel class a week. How many tests are in a class?
@@coastalmuaythai It depends on the course. There is only one Exam per class, but there could also be a paper that needs to be done. On the other hand, there could only be papers required and no tests. It varies by course.
Are the pre assessments proctored?
No they are not.
Are all the exams multiple choice?
In my experience yes. They were either multiple choice or matching.
Can you have a drink
can your demonstrate and comment a correct and full room scan for online exams? Did they really check your ears for devices plugged in? Is it neccesary to cover your whole bookcase?
Many thanks!
