I love all of the tips especially finding an out of town meeting. I have a weird situation where I live in London but travel home to the US quite frequently, where I'll be for Christmas, and for some odd reason jetlag can trigger my cravings! Thank you, What an amazing suggestion!
Super helpful info. I found personally, that instead of avoiding family I needed to open a chain of dialogue. Part of my recovery was learning to communicate on a healthy level. When I was open and honest about my drinking and sobriety with family, I found I didn’t have to hide from or avoid my worst vices! Vulnerability breeds strength! Be honest and open about the changes you are going through, and those that truly care for you will follow suit and respect your growth!
2023 me and my husband, 1st holiday season sober after 13 year. Need all the tips I can get. Week are one week sober so far. We are trying to quit alcohol.
Thank you! I work at an outpatient treatment program, and I shared this video to my relapse prevention group. Great Tips for the Holiday seasons and the group enjoyed it.
My sobriety journey has only just begun, I been sober now for one month 🎉 but I am very anxious about the Christmas and New years celebrations as this will be a true challenge as been surround by family and friends will be difficult not to drink.. But will have non-alcholic drinks ready for me.. Thank you for advice
Congratulations on your month of sobriety. It's to be expected that the holidays will be difficult. It sounds like you have a good plan in place. I hope you have some sober supports as well.
This will be very helpful, not just for me but others. I have been clean and sober for five years. But what I do is gather all the information I can get, and share what I think is useful, like this. I am also in several addiction groups that I share their, engage with other members, and also give folks all the information I can give them about how to get help though people that run these groups, I do it to help folks and myself.
This is an amazing video and so important! I'm so happy you did this as I'm terrified of Christmas this year. I decided last year Christmas week to stop a 20+ a day pill addiction. Christmas day was when the physical and mental withdrawls were absolute agony. Worst day of my life and I ruined my loves ones day. I'm afraid I'll relive it again. I do travel so I have a hotel as an "out." I give my utmost respect to recovering alcoholics since alcohol is everywhere, legal and accepted. You are one heck of a strong woman in so many ways!
You are always so kind, Lauren. Thank you. Definitely good to have a plan for Christmas day since it will bring back difficult memories, and based on the intense physical and emotional experience, you may even experience automatic physical responses lingering in your central nervous system. Nothing you can't get through, but best to be prepared and lean into it as a part of the healing process. Just remember, like with anything that builds you stronger... no pain, no gain 💪 you can do this!! 💜 Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family 🦃
You can do it, Cindy! Every day that you make it through without picking up, you get stronger!! It's good that you are expecting it to be challenging because you are being realistic. Be prepared with every resource and tool you have. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you are finding the videos helpful 💜 thanks too for commenting and helping me to get to know you and helping others who are going through the same struggle!
Hi dr foster I had already planned on solitary confinement for this chistmas, I just wanted to say tomorrow will be 28 days with out a cigarette or anything else and the Half way mark on my patch system and doing great you made me a believer in meditation, thank you
Thanks awesome news, Harold! Congratulations!! And yes, meditation is where it's at!! #1 defense against PAWS and best overall coping skill for anyone and everyone 💜 Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family 🦃
