      Hey great vid. One thing you guys overlooked during this build is the maf sensor was used in blow trough setup.
      These sensors and computers dont like it. Looks like me5. 9 ive boosted alot of these mk3 golfs
      Even the obd1 versions and tuned them and while logging can see it flats out. Maybe a swap to before the inlet and redyno? Would make a good follow up to a variable.

    For the noisy air compressor in your next shop, make a utility room to house it. Also, put the room up high, so it doesn't take up floor space. Thirdly, I made an intake to replace four expensive air filters on our compressors with one huge automotive filter & plumbed it to outside. The inlet being outside made a huge difference in noise reduction.

  • @Mr.Engineer.

    You need to have the throttle body/idle control system before the AMR500 as it is a positive displacement pump.
    When you are constantly pushing pressurized air at the idle control valve it is not able to limit the amount of air entering the combustion chamber and thereby not able to idle.
    You could also use dual throttle bodies if you want to keep the original in place, then you have one before the AMR500 that limits air at idle. Now your system will be under high vacuum at idle, so your hoses needs to be able withstand this vacuum without collapsing.

    If ever there was a setup that ABSOLUTELY NEEDS a intercooler it's this one. You need to overdrive this like a mofo for this engine. That means heat! I'll bet the intake temps are crazy! these also typically use a bypass valve because they like to feed oil into the intake if they are under any vacuum.

    This type of Supercharger is best suited for engines that are 1,000cc or 1 liter or less they were often used on K-Car class of vehicles to boost horsepower and torque if they didn't want to use a turbo charger setup because K Class Cars usually if not all of them used engines that were under or right at a 1,000cc or less.

    I've been through pretty much the same project with a vr6 and a vf9 supercharger. You guys realize that MAF is not a blow through one right? Put it in front of the supercharger and at least 3 inches of pipe between that and the podfilter and the ecu won't be as confused anymore. Also the idle is shit because there's no bypass valve, it's getting way more air now than it can adjust/learn for. Unless the ecu was specifically tuned for no bypass valve, then forget what I said ;)

    I did a budget build on a G16b suzuki with an AMR500 blower, custom pulleys and intercooled at 9 PSI (ridiculously LOUD) . To get it to idle I used a plumb back blow off valve around the Blower as a bypass valve. Without a bypass and with the throttle plate closed, the blower will be making huge "boost" pressure in the intake pipe (between blower and Butterfly) and will stall the engine at idle due to the load it puts on it. The belt smoke will be the blower stopping due to higher pressure at high revs when the throttle snaps shut

    • @Hellsong89
      @Hellsong89 2 роки тому

      Would also need by pass valve so super charger wont block the air flow and i'm not sure how the ECU react to lack of boost. Would probably need bit more advanced ECU that can swap the maps with push of a button that is tied to pulley, but that could turn dangerous since have bad connection and turn the supercharger on, but ECU uses naturally aspirated map, witch would put it pretty lean condition. Also how much torque those A/C pulleys can take before starting to slip.. Might be issue. Been trying to build gasoline engine aircompressor and pulley slipping might become issue, havent got it far enough to test this though.

    • @dieselgeezer18

      i doubt this supercharger compresses the air enough to create enough heat and harm the performance. Take as an example my Mitsubishi Delica-L300 which has a non intercooled diesel engine. The turbo makes 10psi on max boost. Adding an intercooler barely made any difference.

    • @dieselgeezer18
      @dieselgeezer18 2 роки тому +1

      @@ParabolicLabs I would say turbos get even hotter than superchargers. Turbos are driven by exhaust gases which heat up the turbo housing and thus heat the air coming into the engine. Also when air is compressed, no matter what device is used to achieve that, it heats up. Compressing air inevitably increases its temperature. Bicycle pumps, superchargers, turbochargers, prochargers etc all heat up the air because of compression. What im trying to show with my example is that with low boost its not always needed to run an intercooler because the air does not get compressed enough to heat it significantly.
      Also you are wrong about diesel engine air/fuel mixtures. Yes, you are right about diesels running on a higher air/fuel ratio(aka lean) but they do NOT run at a set air/fuel ratio. Gassers have to run close to stochiometric 15:1 on idle all the way to full throttle. Diesel engines on the other hand do not 'care' about stochiometric air fuel ratios. Diesel engines aren't made to run at 18:1 (or higher) or 100:1 all the time on any position of the throttle. Their air/ fuel mixture is variable. On idle they can run at like 100:1 on part throttle 50:1 and on full throttle 18:1.
      Now back to the supercharger. It is super cheap with crappy build quality which could create lots of heat and hurt the performance. You may be right here i dunno.
      But i doubt that a well built supercharger like this costs 5.000 or more. Its super tiny. Its not like a V8 800HP supercharger

    I have been eyeballing some of those same super chargers. for my 1981 Ford F250 4 x4 with a 300c.i. 4.9L Inline six cylinder engine. because those engines can really benefit from being boosted. and I'm not a huge fan of turbocharging. because of turbo lag and because they are hard on motor oil. and if installed properly a person should use a intercooler. and plumbing them in can sometimes be a pain in the ass. and somehow I ran across those super chargers online. but I was curious how they are lubricated. and from watching this video I'm a little bit iffy about it. because of all the noise and the heat it was producing. but after thinking about it a little bit it might work better with a little larger pulley on it.

      @@OverwatchSIX Ethan even said it was smoking the belt. and with that and the other issues they were having. it leads me to think the super charger is being overdriven by quite a bit.

    Throttle body needs to be on the INTAKE side of the charger. MAF Needs to be before the throttle body for it to work correctly. These are positive placement units. They do not work correctly the way you have it installed.

    I installed one of these superchargers the AMR 500 on my 2.0 litre ford probe exhaust and intake already modified. At first I didn't feel comfortable building a bracket so I called Dan spinny whom I believe you know. I gave it a shot and was successful in building a bracket with my crappy harbor freight welder. Of course then plumbing was the easy part. I drove it from my driveway to the UPS building which is literally across the street and with the wine and psht! as you guys experienced with donut, I'm not a 17 year old and I was like nope! Anyway, without any modification to the ECU and stock injectors normally the car will start cold and run about 9 to 1 my cheap AF display when warm it hovers around stoych. Anyway after a few test runs of putting it to the floor just to see without any modification to the ECU or injectors my AF meter went up around 19 to 1 which tells me boost without enough fuel. I was wondering if when you modified that output with the square connector if maybe you lost the Venturi effect? Just a thought sorry about the babbling on comment local guy love you guys keep on grinding!

    did the same thing, Reason the car won't idle is that the butterfly is being pushed closed by the charger, Run a blow off valve as per turbo setup and she will idle like a dream

    Idle air control valve probably wont work under boost if you can bypass where the air goes into this valve idle would work also move the maf sensor and throttle body before supercharger.

    You need to move the Throttle body to the the other side of the blower to regulate the air going in to the blower other wise it’s dead heading that air and it builds crazy amounts of heat.

    I loved my lil 2.0 when I had a 276 cam and a chip in it, straight piped. After I ported the head n intake it really needed a way bigger cam and fuel profile but it pulled hard from 6k-10k.
