- I demonstrate how I replaced a rear wheel hub assembly on 2012 Subaru Outback. I also had to reinstall the CV axle after knocking it out of rear differential.

You are the luckiest guy who ever owned a Subaru. In PA, These are a nightmare. Even with a bearing breaker tool and sledge wouldn't get mine off.
You can remove the entire caliper with the bracket and all, not the bracket and caliper., also, a little anti seize on the splines help. Best to use a punch on the axle shaft first, as you found out. Don't want to mushroom the end of the axle spline. :) Good job.
You clearly dont live in the rust belt.. I wisely decided to take my 2010 Subaru Outback to my mechanic to change one of my hubs.. I say wisely because he said he had to heat it up and he was able to remove it, piece by piece.. The hub was also a original 153 000 miles. I do most of my own mechanic, but I will never attempt a bearing hub because I probably will never need nor have some torches that heat hot enough to remove a fully rusted on bearing hub..

I've seen some videos of the rusted on hubs. Definitely a tougher job than I had.

Northern Subaru's (I own two) are ridiculous to pull that hub/bearing due to corrosion from road salt. It is much easier for me to pull the entire knuckle, place it across a couple of blocks, and hammer it with a hand sledge from the back side of the bearing. Otherwise I'd be beating on that thing with a hub shocker and an 8# sledge using overhead swings forever with no effect. YMMV.

There are few traps in replacing the bearing hub, and folks mostly concentrating on getting the hub off the knuckle body, however the most unpleasant one is when the hub gets stuck to the CV axil spline. Did happen to me and to get them separated is virtually impossible (see one video here ua-cam.com/video/dAK3aVTqN2E/v-deo.html when they literally destroyed CV axil)
That is a challenge!
