  • One of the unique features of the Blue Rail Line is that it is only powered by electricity and has a backup independent power plant spanning 27 kilometers long. GuardianTV's Lois Ogunniyi took a ride and has these to say.

This is the rail project that Governor Lateef Jakande wanted to implement in the early 80s but that the then military dictator General Buhari scuttled and jailed the Governor. 40 years later the same Buhari now president inaugurated the project. Imagine all the progress & development that was prevented in the span of 40 years. We need visionary and competent leaders more than ever.

However I hope the government doesn’t stop there, maintenance is key, Nigerians has a way of jettison and maybe making light of great infrastructure like this. Also aesthetic is important there need to be a law against posting bills on these arenas, dropping refuse just anywhere and being disorderly. The main goal should be to ELIMINATE the usage of cars altogether in Lagos. You don’t need to drive in beautiful cities like London or Tokyo due to their amazing transport. If Lagos provided more options besides driving (more BRT lines and keep expanding the metro) then there wouldn’t even be a need for these parking spaces you’re on about

Good initiative, kudos to the project initiators. My big concern is the electrification on the rail lines. In developed countries where such projects are initiated, the electrification rails will be in a covered space or tunnel, where no one will have any direct access to, or flood. For Lagos, the engineers should have opted for an overhead electrification system. The danger in this rail electrification system will be flood, if there is any flood around the rails with 750V, that will be a massive electrocution. BE WARNED!!!

Dear citizens of Nigeria, If you're seeing all these developments in Lagos & you're still not thinking of voting for Tinubu... I don't know what you're waiting for.
I beg you i the name of God... before you vote for Peter Obi, please go and spend one week in Anambra state..... It's basically a no-go area.
Please dear Nigerian youths, do not make the mistake of your lives.
Most of the development in all the states in nigeria, especially in lagos will be accelerated if Tinubu becomes president!!!
Imagine having a Lagosian as the president... Everyone residing in Lagos will become super wealthy...
    You should all be excited.
Nigeria has never ever had an educated president who was raised in the city....
All Nigeria's past presidents have been villagers. Time to elect a city boy for a change.
Dear Yorubas... For so long you have carried Nigeria on your shoulders. You have always been at the forefront of Charity, industries, Technology, Entertainment, Education & Politics... right from independence. The greatest humans in the history of Nigeria have been the Yorubas, ranging from the likes of: Herbert Macaulay, Wole Soyinka, Fela, MKO Abiola, Mike Adenuga, & Femi Otedola, to the likes of Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, Tiwa Savage, Asake, Anthony Joshua, Israel Adesanya, Kizz Daniel, & millions of other Yorubas who are doing Nigeria proud globally. The Yorubas have always been at the forefront of peace, unity & prosperity... The Yoruba region has been the only region in the country that have never ever formed any terrorist organization or any militant group.
Give the Yorubas the opportunity to uplift Nigeria through the Aso Rock. Vote Tinubu... Vote The Yoruba Race.

@@femiakande652 when the capital was moved to Abuja 31yrs ago, every single resources and major assets were stripped from Lagos. Lagos was milked dry by the military government in order to fund the Abuja urban design. Tinubu had to work extremely hard to bring Lagos back on its feet. Before Tinubu became governor, all the wealthy individuals & major business had relocated to Abuja, but they all returned within the first 4years of Tinubu's administration.

@@doc.georgeandersonjr539 Get some perspective dude. Entire Indian Railways spending this year is $63 Billion. That is the fastest transforming and fourth largest Railway system in the world.
"Hundreds of billions of dollars" is enough to fund the spending of governments of much larger nations for an entire year (Central Government of India spending this year is $550 Billion, not including State Government spending).
This project would likely be somewhere around $1 Billion to $2 Billion.

It's great to see that Lagos has a rail line, it's a vast city with lots of traffic and it wouldn't have to wait any longer for this to happen. But honestly, my heart is divided because I am just tired of seeing Chinese flags hanging everywhere in our countries. If it is a win-win partnership, why is it that their flags have to be hanging everywhere as we were in China? Is that how they do in any single country where they build something or is it just in Africa? It seems to bother no one but this is like neocolonialism because when your flag flies somewhere that's when the territory belongs to you. Just wondering if the money they got from the project itself isn't enough as they have to hang their flags and write mandarin everywhere even though not even 1% of the locals understand it.
