Looks like another poor signing by Leaf Executives. It is too much for too long - on this goalie - who’ll likely won’t last even 3 years with all these injuries. Looks like he might be headed for the Leafs LTIR list within 3 years.
I think this is going to be a really good signing! Especially if they get improve defensively and help him out he won’t be as active in the games and hopefully won’t get hurt
Thinking linus ullmark can of helped with the negotiations when he said he was very surprised when samsonov played and woll was a challenge when he played 😊
Woll has shown signs he can be a good goaltender. But hopefully he can stay away from the injuries. Will see how he holds up playing 50+ games a season.
He’s a good signing if he’s healthy he’s a good goalie bring a veteran to help him. definitely signing for potential because he could be a top flight goalie
I woke up and I'm genuinely surprised. Nonetheless very pleased it worked out for both parties. I believe this contract will be a steal as long as he stays healthy.
Good signing......Have faith in Woll. Leafs almost made a mistake but dodged a bullet. Markstrom is too old, too expensive and too inconsistent. Juuse Saros might be great, but due to cap space this year could the Leafs possibly afford him and still address the other bleeding wound at the blue line. Even the best goalies can be risky and unpredictable, look at Bobrovsky who was a brick wall in games 1 to 3 and then was pulled in game 4, ...... Now heading to game 7. Go with a good tandem for Woll like Wedgewood, Brossoit or Stolarz. Give Hildeby a chance! And don’t forget Martin Jones saved their regular season. Spend the big money on defence !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really like Woll but llike most fans, I have a little bit of nerves with this. Like you posted, I have 2 issues. Firstly, like the video mentioned, is he has had issues staying healthy. That can be worked on, maybe minor tweaks in his warm ups, form, etc. Second issue is based on his games played. Even if he goes next season and is healthy all year, he hasn't played over 25 games which was just this past season. That is the load you'd expect from a back up tender, but for the Leafs expecting Woll to be their possible #1 goalie, those are 2 big concerns ( health status and games played). I think this is the pivot contract, meaning he could stay healthy and put up great numbers making this deal look like a steal. However, the pivot could be him being in and out of the line up, playing around the same amount of games ( stats don't really even matter at this point), which could make this contract look pretty bad. I am hoping he has a good season and he can stay healthy going forward. I think, if he stays healthy and takes the #1 roll, it will be that way for 4-6 years. Next season is still on his entry level deal, if he signs this contract for 3 years it kicks in for the 25-26 season then if Hildeby is the guy, I would assume they'd bring him up for the back up roll for a year or two then see if he can take the net from Woll..
3.5 is not a large amount in a rising cap world. I think it will difficult to sign a decent journeyman for less. Players have a short career and want to get paid.
Woll has played under 40 NHL games. He is very injury prone. He should be given a $1.5M to $2M AAV contract for 2 or 3 years. Definitely NOT $3.5M to $4M AAV.
@@Mick-zz I'm sure they are aware of it too. They likely paid for it. In fact they likely know way more about his health issues than some armchair GM. Anyway... I don't really care because I'm celebrating my hometown winning the stanley cup. Simething I havent done since 1967.
@@floridaswampman7648 You mean like Jays G/M knew about Orelvis?? Leafs management don't know much about injuries .... remember they picked up an injured Foligno for a 1st and he was totally ineffective from game 1 of the playoffs. Look at the Leafs playoff results for forever - Leaf management actually have no clue on anything to do with team results.
We’re gunna get pesche or montour. Our defence was a lot better this year if we can get a top 4 right handed D man we’ll be alot better. Benoit and McCabe were really good and edmundson will be good on 3rd line
I don't get it - an injury-prone, untested goalie. A few really good games, but was not great in AHL for his full stint. Really just one good year in AHL. Too much in my opinion.
@@johnsummerhill8323 Time will tell. I think $1.5 Mil per too much. I don't think he can be a #1, but possible 30 game #2. Which leaves you a massive problem.
@@Mick-zz I think, if healthy, he can be a number 1. I would back him up with Hildeby and a veteran like they did last year. Not sure if Martin Jones will sign with Buffalo or not but someone like him as insurance. That leaves room on the Marlies for the 2 Russian goalies who apparently are advancing quickly.
@@johnsummerhill8323 Can he be a solid #1 - sure it is possible. I give it a 10% chance if he stays healthy. Decent #1 if healthy is most likely at 40%. So that leaves 50% as an injury-prone back-up which leaves them in serious, serious trouble. Like poker, you have to continuously play the odds to win. And this is a losing strategy as I have laid out. I know you love the Leafs and are blinded into thinking every move is spectacular, but it's not reality John. I was the biggest Leaf fan but withdrew when they traded 2 x prime 1st-rounders for Kessel. That was it for me, with MLSE corporate greed doubling up on my disdain for this team.
@@Mick-zz I guess that means you cannot make an unbiased comment. I have been through a lot of Leaf ups and downs in my 70+ years and this management team is a dream compared to some that I have seen. Even though this new contract for Woll does not start this coming season, I think that with an emphasis on finding a couple of good defencemen to replace those that won't be back this season will go a long way to correcting defensive issues and the strain on the goaltending. Woll, Hildeby and a veteran guy would fit in nicely and allow enough cap room to make those improvements. Putting a lot of money into an available goalie from another team does not seem logical.
can't sign him til July 1. But love it if it happens. Sorry Mitch no cap space to sign you. Need it for Knies, McCabe and 2nd line center. Plus you're locking him in before it takes 6 to re-sign him if he stays healthy, and can use the 3.5/4 mil cap space if he goes on LTIR
@@johnsummerhill8323 Dream on... While I have some worries, I think it's a good signing.
