All the bikes had pedals. You have to understand what it took to store all these bikes in a space while still having to fit everything else normally found in an average garage and do it in a manner that would not risk further damage to them. My latest video covers this in detail as well as a few other popular questions. Just wanted to bring this up as it is a question posted almost repeatedly. Thanks for the interest in the video!
I remember a lot of those bikes do you have any John Deere Bikes in your collection along with back in the early '70's B/P gas stations had a couple bikes for a give away prize as well... The B/P Bikes were 3-speeds green in color I bearly remember them but I have seen one years ago .. The John Deere Bikes were the in the early '70s as well they had the banana seat style, I'm thinking the ten speed style and I think there was a 3-speed as well...
I’m 60 yrs old. I had a pea picker with a regular rear brake. We definitely weren’t rich and my dad was cheap, but bless his heart for buying it for me.
Late 60’s not teenagers yet, my dad bought me a three speed Fastback and my younger brother a 5 speed Orange Krate. Rode them all the time. Summer time was memorable. I wish I had kept it for old times sake a long with my first motorcycle and car. Thanks dad.
Amazing collection !!! I got an Orange Krate for my birthday, around 1970, I was 10. My Parents were great, and I really miss them and the old times too.
In 1967 I rode a a Stingray with a 3-speed bar mounted shifter. I loved that bike so much I nearly bought one, but I was 15 and only a couple of months from getting my driver license.
Really impressed with your collection! Those kind of bicycles were fun to ride in the 1960's...they probably still are! In the late 60's/early 70's I had a purple metalflake painted bike like that. I can't remember what kind, though. I can remember that it came with training wheels and my brother and two sisters would make fun of me for learning how to ride a bike with training wheels! Yeah, good memories lol.
Looking back we abused our krates in the early 70s with being reckless and young. Had no idea that our muscle bikes and muscle cars would one day be so collectable. Thanks for showing your collection. Very nice bikes you have.
WOW .nice collection , Wish I had my Schwinn dark green stingray AND my Schwinn 5 speed Cotton Picker , The green stingray I could wheely for 6 blocks and I was only 8 , by 10 I was riding a Schwinn unicycle !!!
I had a 5 speed stingray when I was a kid. Was stolen when I rode it to the A&P store for my mom. Was rattle can metallic red I painted it. Rear turnsignal , the 8 ball shifter broke so I had replaced it with a handlebar shift lever. Also replaced the mini disk wheel with a full size rim with white lettered tire. Never found it but my dad brought it home in a box in pieces and we built it together. Wish I could find it today. I was 10 or 11. Im 59 now. That was a long sad walk home that day.
Had a ‘70 Lemon Peeler when I was a kid , almost had it stolen outside of a convenience store I stopped at on the way to my grandmother’s house. 3 kids were eyeing it up when I came out, and one was even sitting on it. I told him to get off it and luckily store owner saw what was happening and told the kids to scram. I remember riding away from there feeling so scared about what had almost happened. I still have that bike today, along with an Orange Krate, Apple Krate and Pea Picker.
‘60 model here, too. These were “out of our league” when we were kids. I can remember going to the dealer to check em out. Had a Stingray with a banana seat. Used to do one-handed wheelies around the corner. It also doubled as our BMX bike. THOSE WERE THE DAYS
My first bike was a Typhoon my dad bought me and I hated. I thought it looked archaic and wanted a Sting Ray. I saved my money and traded up from my typhoon. But even on the Typhoon I was a terror. Used to ride down this big hill standing on one leg, either on the main tube or on the handle bars like I was an acrobat. Adulthood seemed like a fantasy.
Back in 1970 I was building oversize - stretched Stingrays putting 20" wheels on 24" frames. The pedals were close to the ground but you learned to ride with hardly ever hitting the pedals. A friend got a brand new 5 speed Pea Picker and we started hanging because he was looking for someone to ride with not afraid to ride on trails down by the river. We used to ride our Stingray bikes- mine with tall sissy bar- on the trails. Who needs a BMX thing, stingray the ' all purpose' machine. In 1978 I bought a nice Apple Krate for about $60 , I wanted to try building a stretch Apple Krate . I took it all apart and then got into other things. My brothers friends came and stole all the parts. I only rode it about 10 feet.
Man,, - oh man, you have a gold mine there, i had a blue 71 stingray that came new with a dodge charger, they have both been gone for years, the car, with a hemi,, wrecked and totalled in the 70s, had the bike until the 90s when it got stoled I am an old guy now, and if i could find another, i would have ""my sports car"" back and would keep it garaged ( in my living room) and still would ride it occasionally, nice collection man
I think about my Blue 1969 Stingray everyday….I remember the day my Parents took me to Haack’s Bicycle in Madison Wi…Brand New..$50.00…..Oh how I loved that bike…..Im 59 years old….

I still have my first 1968 sears rail my cousin gave it to me in 1970 when he got a 10 speed it's all original tires tubes cables paint ( purple) grips seat shifter I love it and take it out on rides now and then I am 55 years old makes me feel like a kid again
I had an all green generic heavy bike with banana seat, couldn't wheelie that thing but my neighbor had a gold colored schwinn I'd ask to ride his so that I could, such a great bike but I guess I was too poor to have one. This was circa 1968ish. Good memories.
In the mid 60's I bought my own Banana Bike using my own money. I wanted the Schwinn, but did not have the Money, I bought an Orange Huffy with Metal-Flake seat and Grips. It looked Good, and had a nice Slick on it. I rode for 6 years on that Tire. Then I bought my Schwinn 10 speed. I'm now thinking back on all the special Memories we made on those bikes. Many were brought back watching this video. Thanks for the knowledge.
Wow what a collection. I noticed you didn't have the 3 speed sting ray, stick shift. I had the 3 speed and loved it. It was a 1966-68 model. Would sure like to find one of those. Thanks for sharing and the memories. I'm 63 now and looking at these bikes sure brings back the good ole days.😁👍
@@MF-kb2nv Yes mine has the slick tire on the back but I don't think it came with the chrome fenders. Seems like I put some on it though. Yeah, I sure wish I had mine. My grandson would love it.👍
A kid in my neighborhood where I grew up had gotten an Apple Crate, every kid was talking about it, when I finally seen the kid riding that bike I thought it was the coolest bike i'd ever seen. I was so jealous and envious after that...
Yep, same here but the "rich kid" had the orange krate. I did have a couple of cool muscle chopper looking bikes but Dad was too cheap and poor to ever buy us kids (5 of us!) Schwinn's.
Loved my Sting Ray! Parents bought it used at a garage sale in the early 70s so I’m guessing it was a mid to late 60s basic model that was a copper/orange color. I could “pop a wheelie” and ride that wheelie for what seemed like forever. We also used to clip baseball cards to the front fork with clothespins to make it sound like we were riding motorcycles. We only used the rookie cards of course because we didn’t know those guys 😂. Couple of my friends, who’s parents had $$, had the Krates with tall sissy bars and were all tricked out. They were awesome bikes but I still loved my Plain Jane garage sale Sting Ray!
My parents gave me a 1965 Blue Schwinn Deluxe Sting Ray for Christmas that year. It replaced the red Schwinn Racer they got me a few years earlier. They bought it at a store in My Holly, NJ called Checkers. Man I loved that bike, I was the first kid on the block to have one. In fact no one else had one for a year, so I was the coolest kid on our block. No we weren’t rich dad worked hard in a factory. It didn’t have the hand brakes nor the shifter, they came later. I switched out the original banana seat for a blue metal flake one with a rear sissy bar which extended 4” above the seat. I did wheelies all day, laid long tire patches with the racing slick it came with. Oh and I won all the bike races against all comers, that thing could go super fast. It was the bestest childhood. Thanks Dad, (RIP.)
This video made my day! Am 67 and had a Sting Ray as an 11 year old kid -- used to pull wheelies on it all day! And the banana seat was perfect for carrying newspaper carry bags on my paper route;-) Thanks for sharing your awesome collection, Bro!
Cool collection, man. I'm a 80s kid, and bikes were our world b4 drivers license . I was lucky in that my dad raced road bikes and didn't believe in department store bikes, period. I remember begging him for a blue max sold at Western Auto. Even though it was a mongoose classic with blue max on the pads, bc it was not a bike shop, it was a hard no. That's back when mongoose was not a cheap department store bike. My preferred bike I rode was always diamond back. In having a dad that into bikes both my track bike and my neighborhood bike hung on my bed room wall when not being rode . Bike theft was a big problem in our city. About 7 years ago, I found several 80s BMX bikes on Craig's list and almost bought them. Price wasn't bad. Just a few years later, the idea to start buying them just to have like yours came back to me, and boy, oh boy, was I shocked at the price jump in just a few years. They are high dollar collectible now, and I think of all those cool bikes with decent prices I passed up on.
I had a 70's Schwinn Cruiser.. I absolutely adored that bike and wouldn't let it out of my sight. I kept it immaculate.. When all of my friend's bikes got stolen, I was able to keep mine. When I graduated high-school and started driving, I kept my bike safe in my room. My brother took my beautiful bike and sold it in the 80's for $30 without my permission.. Today, I have a collection of 5-SPEED Schwinn Cruisers and 20" bikes. Maybe one day I'll find my beautiful 70's Schwinn Cruiser.
Man, that is a sweet collection. That Racer near the end was my favorite. It has a timeless style. Looks like it will get you places with out worry. Very cool
1952 Boomer. Bought a Schwinn Racer 3 speed with optional coaster brake in 1964. Saved up $60 and ordered this Black beauty. I still have it and ride with my grand daughter. It still looks like new!
I didn't know that 5-speeds had different names according to their color. Even bicycles back in the day were exciting. We can see why everybody likes to go back in time to the good days when things were simple but fun and exciting.
They did I forgot about the Gray Ghost and the Cotton Picker because they were so rare even when they were new I only saw one at the bike shop then they only had one of each at a higher price.
@@danielboyd4618 the Gray Ghost was a one year production 1971 the Cotton Picker was a two year production 1970 - 1971 in the middle 1968 - 1973.of the Krate production due to the high cost and poor sales. The Gray Ghost is the rarest of the two extremely vary rare bikes. They would have been produced until the end of the Krate bike production in 1973
Wow! Beautiful collection. Had one back in the 60's 70's. I remember a three speed stick and I think it was green. Might not have been a Schwinn but sure was fun!
Honestly, It so nice to see so much chopper bicycles, Back in the 70s we call them chopper bicycle, Everybody want one, but only a few families could afford to have one, Great videos asusual bro, watching from Jamaica west Indies !!.
Good idea thou, my ex collects and does shows, one show him and his buddy did at the beach ended with 2 bikes being stolen. They did get one back when it brought into a local bike shop for repair
Эээх, я мечтаю о таком скате уже на протяжении 2 лет, ведь мне его не купить в Белоруси, но я уверен, что когда нибудь я обязательно приобрету его себе
Wow, nice collection. Thanks for sharing. Takes me back, I had a green fastback exactly like the third one in line. Mine also had the speedometer. Purchased new from Tom Sawyer Schwinn in Wichita, Ks.
When I was a young boy back in the 1940's I wanted a Schwinn bicycle, I begged my Dad for one, instead he brought me a cheap Monark, it looked pretty but would fall apart when riding, When I had children I brought them all Schwinn bikes.
This really took me back. I had 3 different styles. All had the ball breaking stick. One was black. Which one was that? The others were orange and apple crate. All had slicks. This was in the 60’s. Yes I’m old. Outstanding video. 😊
Back in the 70's I bought a purple 5 speed bike the seller told me it was a Schwinn "Grape Crate"! After seeing your collection I find out it was a Sears, same double upper frame with the shifter mounted between...
Great collection. I recently re-acquired my 1970 Sting-Ray Fastback, yellow 5-speed. It's in decent and rideable condition. It doesn't have the original seat or tires, but everything else is intact. Love it.
Wow what a collection! I know the Sting Ray Fastback and the 'Krates' were the ultimate versions of the Sting Ray but most of the Schwinn Sting Rays that kids had in my neighborhood were the base or deluxe models..kids who had the 'Fastback' or 'Krate' versions probably had parents with deeper pockets. My favorite in this collection is the '65 Sting Ray Deluxe copper/orange color with the whitewall tires and chrome fenders..that's the version I recall seeing the most when I was a kid most often in blue or red color.
Awesome collection! I have a 1965 stingray almost all original and currently working on a 1956 Schwinn 20 inch . It’s hard to find a complete bike that’s not insanely overpriced. You got some great finds
Wow beautiful collection man, I was born in 1960, my dad was a Schwinn and Honda freak...he bought me a 1968 Stingray Blue, 3 spd shifter, and the first Honda mini trail 50 in the Detroit area...he also had one of the first 4 cyl. cb 750 in 1970 in the area.
Great collection ! I remember my friends growing up had a lemon peeler & an orange crate. ! Their dad had money! I had a hand me down JC Higgins bike.! I found an original gold Schwinn Stingray girls bike in a guy's yard with a "free" sign on it, so I grabbed it. It's all there, too - seat is in good shape & tires are not too good, but original. !
I remember a lot of those bikes in the early '70s John Deere made Bikes as well the banana seat style, along with the 10-speed style and I think 3-speed as well.. Also B/P gas stations had a bike as a contest giveaway in the early '70s as well if I remember correctly it was a 3-speed full size bike I have seen a few times.. I even had a John Deere bike that I was going to restore but sold it years ago to a collector.. it was a 3-speed green and yellow .. The. B/P Bike was the British Petroleum green & white color,. & The John Deere Bikes were John Deere green, black, wth yellow... You do have a very nice collection there good luck with them on getting them finished...if I had the room growing up I would have had a small collection of Oldsmobile's cars from '64 to '67 & '70 I had about 18 in my lifetime... They get expensive that's for sure now I just collect beer bottles & cans not as much I I used to but the odd time pick one up thinking of selling them soon I have a 4' x 8' display case made for them on shelves and need to make another one if not two would be nice behind a bar that's for sure...
Awesome collection! Had either a 70 or 71 Apple Krate. Had a generator head light/tailights, turn signals and a speedometer. Yup I thought I was hot s$#t thrn! 😂. Gave it away to my neighbor and he used it. Didn’t take care of it. Wish I kept it! Still have old Schwinn Continental though.
Very cool collection! I have a Schwinn CHICAGO 1972 reissue, made in 1983, lemon peeler yellow... LOVE IT. Had a Vintage '68 2 speed kickback, and a '72 coaster brake, but they were banged up and poor riders, as all the components were shot. So I found the '83 reissue in like-new condition, rides and looks (virtually) like a new stingray!
Grew up in Lyndhurst N.J. Just a few blocks away from a bike store that was a major Schwinn dealer. Got my Sting Ray with the shifter on the frame there. But when the “Krate” bikes started showing up a few years later, only the rich kids in the neighborhood would be seen riding them.
I still have my Stingray that I got for my 7th birthday nearly 5 decades ago. It's red, coaster brake bike with a 20" front wheel. It's all original except for the rear tire and the front fender. Still looks good!
That is awesome! I got mine at 7 too, kept it for 30 years for my sons. When they reached 6 yrs in 1994 they had no interest. We almost lost everything in 09 and I had to give it away. I kept it clean and the fenders were rust free. Wish I could have kept it.
I am very impressed. Im surprised you were able to find that many, let alone own them. I remember when my cousins both got one. This was around 73/74. One red and one green. If im correct, the younger cousin got the 3 speed, and the one got the 5 speed.
Congrats on your collection, fantastic, and I get the appeal of the Krate in all of its iterations, but for simple speed and stunts, you couldn't beat the basic Sting-Ray and I loved riding mine for over seven years, from my eighth birthday in San Francisco during the Summer of Love in '67 until I was 15 in Frankfurt, West Germany in '75. And my little thumbnail shows me doing my Evel Knievel thing in Frankfurt in early '75 at the Drake-Edwards Housing Area, just having some fun and missing my friends in California. And then I mail-ordered a CYC Stormer BMX bike from an ad in Dirt Bike magazine and I had fun on that as BMX bikes were the logical and necessary successor to the Sting-Ray and that bike could take a pounding, not that the Sting-Ray was weak or anything, just that you needed to finesse it to make it last and overseas, it was sort of one and done if you broke your bike back then.
In 1965 My Dad took me down to No.. Hollywood CA. Schwinn dealer and we took home a New Super Deluxe Sting Ray in blue with Springer forks...I had the nicest bike at the Oxanard street elementary School..these bikes are a the bikes of a 1960s early 70s then those French European race bikes took over
i had a kiddie city knock off of the 2nd to last bike you shown...white seat...coppertone like color...no fenders...not a schwinn but i loved it anyway...thanks for showing your collection

Wow! great collection. I'm 58 & I remember these bikes.
Great reminder of me and my Lemon Crate. A friend of mine back then had a Huffy (Crate Knock off), but alongside his Shifter was a Park Brake lever.
I'm 62 yrs old and I grew up riding Schwinn bicycles. You were consider cool if you had a Schwinn bike. I still love those bikes today.
@@steve-ph9yg I think those 2 were a1 year thing not sure
@@danielboyd4618 the Gray Ghost was a one year production 1971 the Cotton Picker was a two year production 1970 - 1971 in the middle 1968 - 1973.of the Krate production due to the high cost and poor sales. The Gray Ghost is the rarest of the two extremely vary rare bikes. They would have been produced until the end of the Krate bike production in 1973
Wow! Beautiful collection. Had one back in the 60's 70's. I remember a three speed stick and I think it was green. Might not have been a Schwinn but sure was fun!
Beautiful collection I've never seen so many in such good condition thank for the video
What a magnificent collection. I wish I had started when I was younger.
Honestly, It so nice to see so much chopper bicycles, Back in the 70s we call them chopper bicycle, Everybody want one, but only a few families could afford to have one, Great videos asusual bro, watching from Jamaica west Indies !!.
I thought you took off the pedals so someone couldn't just hop on and take off with the bike. Didn't realize it was for storage purposes.
Good idea thou, my ex collects and does shows, one show him and his buddy did at the beach ended with 2 bikes being stolen. They did get one back when it brought into a local bike shop for repair
Very nice collection. 👍
Nice collection for sure. Thank you for sharing.
Эээх, я мечтаю о таком скате уже на протяжении 2 лет, ведь мне его не купить в Белоруси, но я уверен, что когда нибудь я обязательно приобрету его себе
Thank you for sharing that…..you have awakened some great childhood memories!
Wow, nice collection. Thanks for sharing. Takes me back, I had a green fastback exactly like the third one in line. Mine also had the speedometer. Purchased new from Tom Sawyer Schwinn in Wichita, Ks.
No wonder I can't find any Stingrays anywhere.
haaha i just found one :P
I have one for sale 1969, need fenders and chain guard. Let me know if your interested or have the parts. Bob
Yeah I think he's got the rest of them inside that barn.
@@whojahbless1560 LOL
You can find them if you go hunting! You probably don't want to pay for them though?
Amazing collection 🇺🇸
Had a pea picker with the baseball bat holder on it. went from a schwinn stingray to a harley davidson. Natural progression. PANHEADS FOREVER.
Very Nice Collection I have enjoyed them for years & its good to see the interest grow.
great collection. delicious. I get hungry looking at these for some reason.
wow ! thanx for sharing !!! great collection.
Back in the 70's I bought a purple 5 speed bike the seller told me it was a Schwinn "Grape Crate"!
After seeing your collection I find out it was a Sears, same double upper frame with the shifter mounted between...
Mom got me a used knockoff for 10 bucks, it was great!
Used to give college girls a ride on my Cotton Picker during spring break on Ft.Lauderdale beach. I was 12. 62 now. Great times.
Wow! Amazing collection.
My Father bought me a used Apple Krate for $45 in around '74...treasured that thing for years
Fantastic collection...I have a Ghost too. Congratulations on your great finds!
I had the Pea Picker when I was a kid, that's a really nice collection.
Great Collection I just sent it to my Step Father he used to tell me about these bikes
Cool collection! I had a gold stingray with the rear shocks and it was my one bike all of my childhood. Wonderful adventures on that bike 😀👍
Nice Schwinn collection. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for saving these!
Amazing collection.
That Lemon Peeler is ace 👍
AMAZING Collection... Thanks for sharing! ❤️
Awesome collection. Tank's for sharing.
I wanted a crate bike when i was 10ish and a kid in my neighborhood had the orange crate! Funny I'm 61 and still want one!
Awesome collection!
Nice additions to the fleet... looks a like a valuable collection...
VERY NICE COLLECTION.
You my friend are a lucky man!
My folks gave my 67 red stingray away to a relative.
Still miss that awesome bike...I'm 61
@@stuartb9323 I’m 50, and it’s just a miracle that I have been able to keep up with this bike all these years. I’ve had it for 43 years.
That is awesome! I got mine at 7 too, kept it for 30 years for my sons. When they reached 6 yrs in 1994 they had no interest. We almost lost everything in 09 and I had to give it away. I kept it clean and the fenders were rust free. Wish I could have kept it.
Awesome collection
Sweet collection!
In 1965 My Dad took me down to No.. Hollywood CA. Schwinn dealer and we took home a New Super Deluxe Sting Ray in blue with Springer forks...I had the nicest bike at the Oxanard street elementary School..these bikes are a the bikes of a 1960s early 70s then those French European race bikes took over
Man !!!! The guy on the TV Show Pickers,,,, Mike,, may have a heart attack if he seen your collection! Lol. !!! 😅😅😅👍💕
Lol now Mike knows who to call and sell to!
@@abikelife1481 😁✌👍✝💕
These bikes are EVERYWHERE. It's all about right place right time.
i had a kiddie city knock off of the 2nd to last bike you shown...white seat...coppertone like color...no fenders...not a schwinn but i loved it anyway...thanks for showing your collection
Wow..you should be very proud of that collection..best line up of the best bikes..
