TRANSNISTRIA, the Country Still Living in the Soviet Union (Between Moldova & Ukraine)

- Welcome to Transnistria, the thin strip of land between Moldova & Ukraine, which roughly 500,000 people call home. It is a self declared, unrecognised country that fought to remain independent from Moldova after the breakup of the Soviet Union. I explore its capital city, Tiraspol, where statues of Lenin can be found amongst its Soviet styled streets.

That Moldovan bus station looks nicer than most of Moldova
im from moldova and i didnt even know we have such a nice bus station
The people in Moldovia are super kind and helpful.
Bull shit
Good for them they neighboring peaceful countries who don't like to fight
I love how you visit places far beyond the usual tourist destinations!
You'd LOVE Bald and Bankrupt. I highly recommend his content.

Russia: We got Lenin in front of our governamental buildings
Eyyyyy Let's reform the USSR ;)

This world is too much capitalised for us. But with me, a pure soviet from Transnistria, and you, pure soviets in your soul, we can reclaim our land for the better, comrades.
@Google Baba 1234 oof. Anyways I'm supporting my communist government for the next elections. And also Vietnam is still there 😜

Pridnestrovie or "Transnistria" is not Moldova, and if Moldova is more popular is because of us 😉🇷🇺
Moldova is getting more popular, I went there August 2019, very interesting.
@@AlexanderVadimovich no, he filmed Moldova first and Transnistria later. And, can I ask, why can't we unite. Moldova is a multinational country, because Moldovans are all the people that live and in Moldova, not only Romanians (You can be russian, but you're Moldovan too if you live in Moldova). I think we'll live better together.
@@marschallkenobi6426 I understand what you said, but Moldova did a great mistake attacking us after ussr collapse, killing innocent people etc... Moldova did his choice and now it's paying for that. the territory of Transnistria or better say "Pridnestrovie" is a Russian territory historically. And no, my dear friend, I'm not Moldovan at all, I'm Russian, I speak Russian, I have all Russian documents and I was born, as I said, in Transnistria, not in Moldova.

A country that's pretty much frozen In Time.
It is not a country, this travellers know too little about this places they visit.
It's not a country sir, it's part of Republic of Moldova annexed by Russia. Even the local russians (a minority which torments the moldovan and ukrainian majority in the region) declared themselves part of Russia and not independend (Russia turned them down because of political-diplomatic reasons).
@Mor Dor The local russians represent 25% of the population, they couldn't declare anything on their own, no matter what definition of ''democracy'' we use.
@@antoniudraculea4507 it's not annexed, I can confirm that most people legit don't wanna be a part of Romania.
@@VeganCossack
1. I was arguing they should be part of Republic of Moldova, not Romania.
2. Where exactly in Transnistria do you live? If you live in a city where most people are russian, I wouldn't be surprised. If you live in the countryside where most people are moldovan (romanian) or ukrainian, I would.
jason...most Transnistrians have a Moldovan or Russian passport or even a Romanian/Bulgarian one ...you can not travel anywhere with a Transnistrian passport except Russia and a few former SSR countries
Travel to Russia with Transdnistian passport? I really doubt that

@Русский Человек "what" he was talking about the citizens of Transnistria.
I visited this place two years ago for a few days. It is of particular interest for us Swedes because our King Charles XII of Sweden stayed outside Bender between 1709 and 1713 when it was part of the Ottoman Empire.
I got the impression that Transnistria, and especially Tiraspol, is cheap, safe, clean and fairly well maintained. Worth a visit!
Yeah safe...
Are you talking about Carolus Rex?
@@interestinglife934 Yes. Better known in Sweden as Karl den tolfte.
Yeah especially safe) Echoes of 90-es, when in Transnistria was one of the biggest weapons black market, are still alive. Also it should be noted that Transnistria doesn't have any extradition agreements with Moldova. So "moldavian gangsters" can easily hide there
Thanks very much 🎉
This seems to be a very charming place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future when all this is over. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much! And please keep up the great job! Subscribed!!

Transnistria is considering itself an independent country, they say they are not moldova. They are something else, but all the liability they get moldova has to pay. Transnistria its an strategical point for Russia in case of a war.
it is similar to the Crimea, DNR-LNR, mini-republics in Geargia etc, the Russians form a bigger and bigger part of the population (they came because the climate was much better and warmer), later they claim they are victims of persecution and call in the Russian tanks

@@georgegrau1234 My comment was for Veaceslav, who I assume is a Moldovan that also speaks Romanian, myself being Romanian. Also, what you wrote in your comment is 100% correct, there are Russian people from Russia all over Moldova brought after 1940(Moldova was a Romanian territory until the Germans decided to give this Romanian region to Russia - Moldova, including Transnistria - look up for Ribbentrop-Molotov pact) and Stalin brought many Russians there following the exact tactic you described above. Today Transnistria serves as a Russian military strategic point.

Thanks. Haha, someone sent me the link, pretty funny.
Thanks for visiting Transinistria, i think people must know more about this place.
A state that is not recognized by others is still a state. I don't see how you can deny that. Its just an unacknowledged state. About the statue, of course there are still many places with Lenin-statues, a statue doesn't make a soviet union (that is its values, its ideology, not the facade). The place looks pretty regular. There are many places in the world that look like that and people, relative modern cars driving around etc. In that sense the footage of the rusty playground is a bit pain full... then again, thanks because it does give an interesting picture. I value the fact that you just walk through town and downtown.
8 months, that’s dope. Big thumbs up
Thank you for experience!

Very interesting to see Tiraspol 9 years after I was there in 2010. A lot of changes! First, in 2010, border control was still very strict, and we were told we had to leave the country by 9pm or we would be in big trouble. Secondly, we saw almost no cars; the centre has an old soviet 6 lane motorway, but nothing was on it. Third, there were beer vendors everywhere on the streets. Fourth, we saw almost zero young men, but the university was full of young women. We also saw train loads of steel still sitting were it had in 1990, unable to be exported because neither Moldova nor Ukraine would take it. On leaving, we were shaken down for a bribe, but had hidden our money and played dumb long enough that the guards let us go.
Good video

Im planning on going to moldova next yearfor few days and i would really like to visit this part as well but im only afraid people will not speak english and im gonna have a hard time communicating with anybody lol..and also,do they accept cash only or it’s possible to pay by card at the restaurant or grocery store etc?if there is any moldovan here I’d be glad to get an answer :)
Hi. I'm living in Moldova in Chişinau city and I can answer on your questions. 1) Cards and cash. You can pay by card at restaurants, supermarkets(like N1, Linella, Fidesco and etc.) and in taxi, but you should (must) have with you a bit of cash because cards aren't accepted in public transport, small shops (named by natives "Alimentara") and in markets like "Piaţa Centrala".
2)Nowadays a lot of youngsters speak in English at least on low level and if you need help with navigation through the city, they will assist you.
If you are still planning to visit Moldova, I can give you my Facebook link for better communication

Great video. I've always wanted to visit Transnistria. It has a fascinating and complex history. Soviet architecture interests me too. I think Transnistria is recognised by a few other unrecognised breakaway States, isn't it? Like Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
Correct, good knowledge! But of course, those disputed states only choose to recognise Transnistria because they are looking for some kind of acceptance in return. Not a single UN member has given Transnistria an endorsement, which is what really matters.
