Looks like I will be buying the MTN Racer 3's. Damn you Topo. That is now every iteration of this line. Just curious as to the existence of the medial post. I'm beginning to think of this as being critical, as also a huge fan of the Ultrafly 3.
Looking fwd to the TV4. That new version looks clean & simple in grey! Appreciate the subtle appearance. Glad they didn’t add to its stack height as they did w/ the MTNR 3, but would prefer no rock plate. The logic of adding one is understandable w/ a lwr stack; however, some of us that gravitate to lwr stack do so for ground feel and natural flexibility - even on technical Rocky Mtn terrain - plates imho reduce proprioception (especially plates in the forefoot).
I’m a little nervous when he said they made the midsole the same as the Ultraventure 3. I hear the ride is mellow on that shoe. The mtn racer 2 is my ultra shoe. The only complaints I have with the 2s were the upper held water and my feet would hurt if the trail was very rocky.
I'm always excited to see what Topo has going on. I'm less excited about their price increases. I'll probably just stick to Runventures for now. Here's hoping they get their quality control in order.
@@jaymueller2418 Yeah, it has. Just look on Amazon, there are plenty of pictures of the Runventure 4's sole detaching from the upper. My Ultraventure front's started coming apart. I cut it off so the flaps wouldn't catch while I was running.
Question… I purchased the Topo Specters and found that the ankle collar came up too high for me and had to return them:( It was hitting me to high on the ankle bone:( 1. How does the ankle height compare on the Mountain Racer 3 and the MT-5? 2. I also stand on my feet all day and can’t do shoes with too much cushion… what do you recommend between the Mountain Racer 3 and the MT-5?
I have the Specter and the MTN Racer 3. Ankle height may be slightly lower towards the eyelets in the MTN Racer 3, but very, very little. Almost imperceptible if at all. The shape and slope of the collar from the heel towards the upper eyelets looks the same. The MTN Racer does have cushion along the inner edge of the ankle collar towards the eyelet side. The Specter is well padded around the heel and then the cushioning tapers off towards the front of the ankle. This may make a difference if you're getting that pressure towards the front of the ankle collar.
How does it compare to the Hoka Madate Speed 4 ? I struggle with my Mafate in the heel lock and midfoot a bit too large, whereas the lenght is ok... While it's acceptable on 20km mountain trail, it's a problem on longer 30km+ mountain trail for me...
MTN Racer 3 will be a better fit in those area. Midfoot is always good in Topos - never had an issue with midfoot being loose. Mafate 4 has that weird tail which I don't like, and could contribute to lack of heel hold. I don't have an issue though. But the MTN Racer 3 does have better heel hold - the ankle/heel collar is just right. It's a much more flexible shoe too, so there's less "pull" on the heel when the foot flexes.
Thanks a lot for the feedback ! I finally got the MTN Racer 3. The heel lock and midfoot is indeed better, and most of all, the wider toe box is great ! I wonder how I ran in the Mafate Speed before !? The weak point of the MTN Racer 3 for me is the cushion which is far less comfortable than Mafate Speed...
@@totot1881 They're kind of in different categories. MS4 is max-cushion, and MTN Racer 3 is more mid-range in terms of cushion (with no plate). They're not really direct comparisons. Topo doesn't have that max-cushion (with grip) type of shoe in their trail lineup.
I'm not liking the feedback from their team when asked questions and the it that answered the question didn't give me any other info on what might come out just so I know if I should hang on and wait or buy something else, I just want some type of release or caring
Just got the TOPO MT5 and they are phenominal!

Agreed! Keep the medial post please

Has QC been an issue? I just got MT-3's and they are coming apart within 2 weeks. Superb fit and feel, unfortunate that it's already failing.

Shouldn't these shoes be released in February or March?
Was hoping for something better than Altra but I have flat feet so shoe rolls inwards a crazy amount. Any other shoes with more support for arch.
MT Racer 3 looks good with the added stack height and minimal price increase.

Is the MTN Racer 3 closer to the new wider last of the UV3 and Pursuit or more performance based like the MTN Racer 2?
Way late here, but yes, MTN Racer 3 is wider than V2, closer to the UV3, but not quite that wide. Roughly in between those 2 shoes, width-wise

Does not compare
what about the mesh upper? In my MT-4 there comes a lot of dust to inside of the shoe... is it more "closed" in the TV 4?
Can’t quite recall how dense it was. As soon as we have samples we will be able to tell. Sorry
Would you mind tell me what colours will be launched for the MTN Racer 3 in June ?
Sorry don't have that info but will try to find out
Mango/Espresso ^4this1^ & Black/Lime
MTN Racer 3 looks like Ultraventure 3.
So the MTR 3 is becoming the UltraVenture 2. Got it.
No, it looks just like the New Ultraventure 3.
