This was excellent. A perfect blended cut and style without a set of noisy clippers in sight. Jim has real skill with the scissors. I hope he does more of this kind of content. The intense concentration on Jim’s face was also fascinating. I love to watch dedicated professionals do quality work and Jim delivered that in spades.
Wow, that is some next level barbering. To scissor over comb with such precision for over 20 minutes is crazy - using the same pair of scissors throughout as well!
I've watched this video .... more than a hundred times . I still get the same enjoyment out of it ....as I did the first time ( other than for the back-ground noise , and Jim's talking ) . This has to be a back-breaking task .... for " mustache Jim " , to stay bent over like that while cutting . I assume he does not have a barbers chair .... that raises his client up to a level where he does not have to bend over ....?
Just listening to the video brings me back to my childhood. I loved that sound of the scissors it was so relaxing the barber had a hard time keeping me awake.
TheRat123 he’s referring to a villain with that sort of style and mustache, the guy needs a top hat and he’ll look like one of those cheesy western villain movies
Looks like a real artist at work here...barber Picasso methinks...no lazy sheep shearing-type electric cutting from this master...his creations are all hand-crafted scissor work...excellent stuff!!!
Brilliant video. Great ASMR triggers and a great hair cut. We all want this guy to be out barber too right? A pleasure to see a haircut with just scissors. The guy had class and character. Thanks for sharing.
Super relaxing to watch! That's some crazy hand-muscle control too. Out of curiosity, (if it's not rude to ask) how much would a cut like this go for? There's so much work put into it's obviously not the same as that $10-$15 buzz you can get down the street.
BlimeyGames I pay $20 down the street from my house at a traditional barber shop. It's a popular spot with the hipsters and the square folk alike. I also tip my barber generously on top of it because he goes out of his way to do a good job every time and he gives me free beer or a couple stiff fingers of whiskey whenever I'm waiting.
BlimeyGames This would cost you anywhere from $25-45 probably, depending on the city where you got it. If you got it done in a salon, you would probably get a shampoo to go along with it.
Hey thanks for the relaxing vid, I have a question which is why don't you use the trimmer instead of the scissor to trim the hair on the sides and the back of the head? Whats the catch? Edit: You answered that at the end, nvm.
So, this is what really happened to Pvt. Pyle from Full Metal Jacket? He became a really superb barber with a wild moustache. Good for him! I am glad to hear he recovered so well from his self-inflicted head wound. UA-cam truly is a place of post-Christmas miracles.
I always recall learning that only the thumb moves with the shears, not both thumb and fingers. He chomps with both. Who knows of it really makes a difference or is it just technique you learn in school. Anyone?? I use only the thumb movement. I really don’t know if it makes any difference based on dozens of videos I’ve seen. Also, whether it matters to a customer whether the barber has a lot of conversation with customer or not, or silence and a great cut is fine. Any opinions?? I’m sure these guys know each other making this video.
Urban legend has it that Mustache Jim's doctor told him 19 years ago that he had a exotic illness which would end his existence unless he squeezed his right hand no less than 3000 times a day, after going home and thinking of his possibilities he thought "i know i'll become a shear only barber!" to which the people close to him reacted in disbelief and told him that he could not thrive in a clipper world. 19 years later, Jim (as he was only known back then) is showing signs of not slowing down anytime soon.
Matt Erwin Not really. But takes more time. In a busy shop this wouldn’t work. Most guys want to get in and out. Unless it’s a more time consuming cut. In reality, the clippers would have done the same, then fine tune near the end. If clippers were used, you can then spend a little more time with aftershave, powder to remove neck hair, and a few extras that will bring customers back again. This cut is very popular with young guys! Nice job! It’s not easy to do this cut with only shear over comb. 👍
Bet they wonder the same for the very distinguished looking barber...impossible for any client to compete with his eye-catching look...definitely should get his photo and details registered with some agencies who deal with supplying people for tv and films...
I also wet the hair down before cutting. I guess it comes down to preference. It’s better for me when hair is wet. When my hair is cut I always request it wet than dry cut.
Jim would be rendered virtually mute if the word “tight” was taken out of his vocabulary. I love his style, his mode of dress and his cheerful attitude.
The taper looked really good for a scissor taper BUT the growth pattern on the crown was completely ignored. Look at the client the first time he touches it at the end. The first thing he does is try to lay that down. Also, I worry for his hands because of how he moves his scissor. Also also, that scissor is either too tight, or it's dull. Those noises don't come from properly maintained shears. I do have to say though, that scissor taper was well finished. 👍🏼
i'm no barber, but from what i gathered; isnt that the point of the shears? softer looking cut? and if the shears are more 'dull' it would further help that softer finish? I seem to recall somebody advise me to trim my hair around my backside (not meaning to sound rude) with dull shears so it's not left too prickly when grooming to keep things more comfortable down there.
Where is MOUSTACHE JIM!!! IN 2022????? we need more of this guy!
Haircut Harry did a video with him recently
And a new video came out today

Found this video a few days ago, and I’m watching it for the 3rd time already. Something with just a Scissor Cut is the best.
Hands down. Beat Scissor ASMR. Also, the best Scissor only barber out there.
Just listening to the video brings me back to my childhood. I loved that sound of the scissors it was so relaxing the barber had a hard time keeping me awake.
Don't do it! He has your girl on the train tracks!!

Relaxing and some serious scissor skills on display. That's a sharp looking haircut.
old school master barber. a time traveler.
word of advice when your barber is checking angles and spinning you in the char, NEVER look him or her in the eyes... its fucking weird

That barber is an excellent barber.
not really, ruined the whole shape of the haircut
The correct grammar would be “that is an excellent barber”, have a nice day.
I have never seen the end of this video and I'm ok with that. This is so relaxing
This gives such a natural look to the fade, it looks so good and very professionally done!
I like the sounds of the birds chirping and the airplanes flying overhead. I imagine it was a really nice, sunny day when this took place.

I love this guy's work. I'm totally hitting up Moustache Jim for a cut when I go to Minneapolis.
o som produzido pelo corte somente com tesoura é extremamente agradável! Muito relaxante. Parabéns pelo vídeo.

oh my lord! finishing style was so attractive! love it
now thats a man who loves what he does
Aside from the yipping dog, this is gold star ASMR
I actually like that it gives the video a more natural feel, like “ASMR in the wild” as opposed to overly produced/artificial ASMR.
Just my opinion. These guys did this video together. The clothes, music etc. Great job not using anything but shears and comb!! Not easy. 👍
Was your hand sore after this gosh your so quick. Great sounds to 😊

Impresionante ASMR con el corte y tijeras...Gran barbero, muy técnico .. Relaja mucho ..
Highly Skilled
Watching Jim hack away at that hair made me nervous but it ended up a pretty solid cut
It's like watching Edward Scissorhands. Nice talent.
Great skill to do this without clippers. My man Paolo at Salon Salon does it this way ;)
im gonna go out on a limb and say that this isnt Jim's first haircut

love it
That mustache is epic
not sure why he didn't use clippers but I do love me some nice scissor sounds so I'm not complaining
Great video. Where is Moustache Jim located? It looks like he is working out of a private residence.
This is a cool little shop. Ashame Jim's not there anymore.
Every time I come back to this video, I love the beautician/barber more, and the client less.
Moustache Jim = Jimmy Fallon!!
I want this cut. This would be so relaxing.
It takes alot of skill to do a all shear cut !
Matt Erwin Not really. But takes more time. In a busy shop this wouldn’t work. Most guys want to get in and out. Unless it’s a more time consuming cut. Music at the end made me feel like I was back in the 40s
Big hands for a barber
I want a haircut like that but unfortunately in Los Angeles that not the style anymore.
So is there really a difference between getting this done with scissors instead of clippers?
Softer touch
+Mirai Kuriyama wait sorry, but what does softer touch mean? does it make the hair itself softer? sorry, I'm kind of confused.
+The BijouX Effects Jim says it in the video at around 2 minutes
who's here from Haircut Harry?
