AR rahman sucks in my opinion. Its not DIVINE like illayaraja. I think you need difefrenet brain. AR rahman all show no substance. Illyaraja no show but substance isai medayil still ring in my ear
This phenomenon only started after 2007. Most of his hit songs before 2007 were instantly likeable. This is not a bad thing or a good thing. He just changed his music style drastically in the recent years.
I know right, when Saathiya came I was like it's ok...but then a year later when I really heard the songs and my mind was completely blown. Aye udi udi, chupke se,mangalaym still give me goosebumps to this day.
I came to this video by chance and he mentions about hai rama song.. I have been listening to that song since last 3 days after a long long time.. hai rama is still fresh.. wow!! ARR's music is eternal!!
Hari haran ji is one of my fav since childhood along with SPB, udit ji and shanker mahadevan.....Whole Telugu states ppl are in awe of hariharan saab's sweet voice...he has sung many greatest songs with ARR, mani sharma, dsp, s a rajkumar n few...love you sirr..stay blessed🥰
There are so many bucket list songs here. I heard him live in 2007 (the experience of listening to ay hairathe and tu hi re was almost religious). Plus the humility. When he speaks it almost feels like a fan speaking rather than a master.
In the name of improvisation Hariharan sings his own songs differently at different times. That's bad....a song is a product of the composer and lyricist....a minor improvisation is ok in live shows... Totally changing the meter and feel is actually song assasination. That's not creativity. An already recorded and famous song should always be sung as it is! That's my take.
@@sudhakariyer14 Improvisation is good. Shows the expertise of singer but that can't be done blindly for the sake of it. Different pitch, tone and specs which kills originality. Personally watching live concerts for the past 15 years (mostly online). I find for present singers, Karthik is a fine musician who sings very well in live. Improvises only when there is a need to. Otherwise stay ori. Never take unnecessary risk. Although Hariharan is veteran in the industry, I think he should learn from his junior on not to irritate and annoy audience with shrilling voice and irritating singing
@@royalprince5878even I don’t like improvisation. But unfortunately many music lovers come to concert not to hear the exact same song, they can do that elsewhere or through cds or UA-cam. They like to hear their favourite singer do some magic with their favourite songs.

OMG. When I first watched Roja. Mesmerizing music by AR. Still takes me back to that time...in an instant. Also the only song that made me stop and listen..when the credits were rolling at the end of the film. I also had the casette of Colonial Cousins. Loved it.
During my college days I used to sing your songs sir…..I thought now a days there is no individuality in the voice because of digital recording….but after hearing your voice even in this digital recording I am amazed to see how exact it is….may be in this age the issue is with singers not putting the effort and practice. Thank you Sir.

@@ashwinoashwin Yes, sound engineer is a great asset too and H Sridhar is undoubtedly very gifted, which explains it. Even now ARR keeps changing sound engineers cause i believe he's still looking for another unique working engineer like H Sridhar whose mixing and mastering techniques is a bit ingenious and unorthodox.
If you had seen one Arr interview in Tamil, he said many musicians started to incorporate his style of music, therefore he intentionally left his old style of groove- catchy kinda songs. As hariharan said Arr employed strokes on a canvas. Tapestry of layers which ultimately ends with a vibrant colourful painting.
@@sumanshekar4777 Exactly! I'd this era of his music, he's mostly giving in to his experimental improv side where he's actually exploring all the different musical styles there is and trying to incorporate in it. And he himself said after 2000 he wanted to have this approach, even if it means he'll take a hit in popularity. Cause doing only groovy songs with a hook will also pigeonhole any artist too long run and he'll be repetitive. I had purchased the Colonial Cousins album released by Magnasound. Brilliant songs like Krishna, Sa Ni Dha Pa, Indian Rain. Both Leslie and Hari Haran sang. They don't make music albums like those anymore.
I am a huge ARR fan and been always finding ways to put into words what his music feels like but today is the day I realised why after what Hariharan said, his music is not in your face it's so subtle yet powerful and you don't know that you are getting addicted. I know there are many music directors out there creating music but they don't have the same feel like ARR and might fade away within a few years. ARR music still feel fresh after 30 odd years. Very nice comment

"Yeh haseen vaadiyan..." actually transports you to serene & beautiful snow capped locales. What a song!

The original version in Tamil sung by Unni Menon is also excellent.
By the way it was not sung by him - it was sung by SP Balasubramaniam
