First, Septic tanks never have a downspout on the inlet side, that would cause the inlet to plug up. Second the hole in the divider is always at the midpoint depth wise in the tank so some of the solids sink to the bottom of the tank an other float on top. The hole in the midpoint of the tank divider helps insure that the majority of the solids remain in the first chamber. The downspout on the outlet should always be at the midway to the bottom of the tank so water with the least amount of particulates is drawn out of the tank. Particulate matter going out into the drain-field is what plugs it up an causes the field to fail. Its normal to have 2"-8" solids floating an the same settled on the bottom of the tank, the tank does NOT need pumped an cleaned. Humans have more germs an bacteria in our bodies than any other animal on the planet. The bacteria make the tank work. Never connect your water softener to your septic tank, because the salt from it kills the bacteria in the tank. I've been installing an repairing septic systems for over 4 decades, yup always working with the shyty end of the stick.
We used these all over Africa and they work a treat;even during the rains.Simple and cheap to construct, odourless and so simple to maintain. And a by-product was rapidly growing trees around the soak-away for which we used gravel and coke.
We think this simple animation has greatly helped people in rural Nepal understand the systems that some of them are getting in the sanitation project....wait and see the new bio gas animation coming soon
First, waste water from toilet bowl with feces goes down to the septic tank. Then it goes to the 1st chamber which is called digestive chamber(where most of the feces or toilet paper deposited, sludge), then it goes to the 2nd chamber which is called leaching chamber. (Should be filled by sand at the bottom then gravel at the top for screening some feces or paper which escape from the first chamber). All water that goes out of the tank are fairly clear but not treated or potable.Water then goes to the leaching field. Some feared that ground water can be contaminated with this untreated water( especially if the septic tank is wrongly designed). Leaching field should also be spread with sand & gravel then water from leaching field can now go to the vegetation or grass plantings. Note that the elevation of septic tank should be at highest point than the leaching field or vegetation as oppose to this video. Water or liquid seek its' own elevation (simple physics).
It’s an interesting approach to demonstrate elapsed time. A+ for originality. It’s a video about how a septic tank works, and you made it cute! 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
The problem with these systems is that many chemicals going through the toilet like cleaners. This kills the bacteria in the septic tank and the process is not going well. All chemicals go to the plants !!! Including the hormones from the birth control pill and any other medications that come from the human body. So your Plants are poluted !!!
What causes the change in tank content to happen at 00:19? Is it just gravity/weight of the sediment sinking to the bottom, or something more to the process.
The passage from 1 tank to the second must be above the drain field and a 4"x12" plastic pipe installed 45 degrees. Only the black water(toilet) should go to # 1 tank and gray (sink, shower)water to # 2 tank. I built my sectic tank and never need maintenace for 40 years.
This is mis-named. It's actually about how a septic field works. A septic field has a septic tank but liquids from the tank can be dispersed under a wide area called the "field". On it's own, a septic tank needs to be pumped out once a month on average depending on how many people are in the house, and how big the tank is. In a septic field system, the septic tank concentrates solid waste and needs to be pumped out about once a year. Quite a difference.
Tanks only need pumped depending on how many are using the waste system, but generally say 4 people per a house hold tank will only need pumped 5 or more years. I have seen tanks that never been pumped in 25 years work just fine, because the bacteria eat up the solids in the tank
If you redesign the passage between the tanks by installing a 4"x12"pipe 45 degree angled from the first tank to the second tank and leveled higher than the drain field hole. This way the black water will drain to the gray tank. The black water will work better and the waste will be biodegrade naturally. Black water is the toilet waste should go to the first tank and the gray water( sink ,shower) will go to the second tank. I built a septic tank like this and for 40 yrs I have not need maintenance.
Thank you! I have more faith in what modern humans do now! I have been thinking about this for a long time- fruit and poop are similar to CO2 we produce and O trees produce.
Eko Makmur usually by gravity. Need to create a trench cavity 1meter underground (milk crates work well) and cover with cloth then river sand, no clay. If you live in swampy or saturated ground it won't work
+Christian Librero Hi, it's about $350, FOB Qingdao Price for one septic tank, not including the the end where the water is redistributed to the plants. Would u like to buy one?
Seems a galvanic/electrolytic part similar. A Low power on left and right would mid clear absorbance to positive. But this needs to be a low power 12V at 0,01 A a long time. 🔎 Galvanic process
Stop putting odd comments, that's an animation and it takes years to get those results. We should be thank full to the creator of this animation. Secondly i think people are dum by the reason that this is a simple example how manure works. Even if natural ( cow dung , compost ) or artificial amonia.
The kid grew up on the manhole of septic tank, no wonder they're all pooping so much 😂. Btw the animation was really informative, it have a clear overview for even a layman to understand, it was informative, (and questionable)
Anyone know how I can check the filter between my tank and the leech bed? the water keeps filling up a lot in the tank. I've had the tank pumped and he said it didnt have much solid, mostly liquid. Someone else suggested that I check the filter or screen. How do I do this?
Deborah Kershaw No the temperature about 4 - 6ft below ground usually stays constant year round. I looked this up when I was planning my wine cellar, I built a cellar about 5 or 6ft down and it stays a comfortable 50F - 60F year round.
ok, my question is the shit just dries up before it gets to the weeds ? or how can someone explain this, does this tank ever get replaced, how long does it last?
It depends on the size. Mine(2 persons) lasted for almost five years and then you call up someone to collect it for the sum of 100 euros and its ready to be used again.
Correct that's how it works but sometimes ( like 20/30 years later) the soil can become so saturated with water it won't absorb any more .At the point they musk excavate and lay new drain pipes elsewhere .
I think my septic system is coming towards the end of its life and I need to get a replacement as I am getting more and more problems with it every single year.

+redsoil5 Thanks for the information. Very helpful.
What will happen if the hole at the partition was higher up or not there,so that water overflows at the gap on top?
I was thinking it
redsoil5 Nice explication. You should make a video about it. :)
I learned nada. So a septic tank just redistributes you waste? Hmmm how the f is the water getting to a place then?
what is up with the woman getting pregnant and giving birth?

Everything I was thinking while watching this video got reaffirmed in the comment section. 😂
Thank u for guildlines its very helpfull and reduce the problem of septic tank
how do you get rid of the solids at the bottom of the tank?
This design is new to me. I like the idea at the end where the water is redistributed to the plants!
Look Aquaponics up it's pretty interesting
Its all about the cycle of nature.
Worked like that for many years

Hi the overflow pipe in the ground, to feed the plants. What's stopping heavy rain running back up the pipe into the cesspit and filling it up?

How dose the water suddenly become clear when moving from the first half of the chamber to the next?
The bacteria feed on the waste
