To me, this game is far and away the best Star Fox game and probably the most criminally underrated Nintendo game. I know some people don't like the on-foot missions, but I really enjoyed them as a kid because I always wanted to control Fox himself outside of a ship or a tank, and this game let me do that. But as an adult I can admire the risks they took in deciding to do that, in addition to building a lot of the Story mode missions being off the rails arenas with objectives to complete in addition to the typical rail shooter stuff, it really gave the game a lot of variety. Also the music is freaking incredible in this game. But what I think is maybe even more impressive was how it took the Star Fox universe and it's characters from being relatively two-dimensional stuff to having a lot of depth, emotion and worldbuilding to it. The characters actually had personalities in this game instead of just being text boxes telling Fox to do stuff. Looking back, this game had an edge to it (in a good way) that the series probably needed, and it really helped you get invested in the story with how the Aparoids were tearing the galaxy apart. The General Pepper fight, how he was begging you to kill him the entire time, and how Peppy damn near risked his life to save him is some really heavy shit, and it showed that the story wasn't afraid to just completely destroy whatever status quo the stories in the previous Star Fox games would have had for themselves. This game had probably my favorite Multiplayer out of any game in my childhood, my friends and I used to play the hell out of it, and I feel like it could be successful today in like a port or something. It makes me sad that all Nintendo wants to do now is keep remaking Star Fox 64 over and over again (when they even want to remember Star Fox exists), I would give my left nut to go back to this Star Fox.
Crossing my fingers that somewhere down the line we get a remake of this game. But after how disappointing NSO+Expansion Pack , I’m not holding my breath on anything Nintendo does anymore.

No joke, this game was my introduction to Starfox. When I was a kid, I walked into my local Blockbuster (Feeling old yet?) and rented it on the fly since it looked kind of cool. I played it and I loved it. While I can't really call myself a fan of the series as a whole, this game in particular is solid. The story is short, sweet, and to the point, you get a lot of personality out of the characters, the gameplay is fun, and the music is gorgeous. So yeah, 10/10. Also, like if you had a crush on Krystal.

If Falco is still alive for the final showdown for the villainous boss battle, then Falco said to Fox, "Watch out Fox!" Then the boss enemy is shooting a deadly laser at you, then Dodge out of the way to avoid heavy damage, just like the boss, Gorgon in Area 6.
This was the peak of star fox games in my opinion. After that they just start doing retelling and remasters of the series . Kinda wish there was a continuation of the assault story. The design for ships and characters were pretty badass and slick. The music were perfect.
An absolutely amazing and underrated gem from a great era in gaming. As a longtime Starfox fan, I was worried about the quality of the on foot missions, but I found them to be an exhilarating challenge and a way to break up the monotony of the aerial missions. So much to love about this game from the gameplay to the thicker plot and an exceptionally fun versus mode. True fans know that Assault is an underrated masterpiece.

Adventures and Assault were admirable attempts to take the series into a bold direction and expand on it, but people wanted 64 all over again. So they made 64 again (Zero) and it ended up killing the franchise.

not really a console guy anymore, but this was my favorite gamecube game.
Metroid prime, star fox assault,f-zero,windwaker,smash. Game cube is goated
Krystal fox was my favorite character in this game
My Twin brother and I watched our older brothers play this game when they would rent it, and we just fell in love with it. We especially loved how Fox and Krystal were a romantic couple. Nostalgia at its best.
Adventures and Assault were admirable attempts to take the series into a bold direction and expand on it, but people wanted 64 all over again.
So they made 64 again (Zero) and it ended up killing the franchise.
Legendary..
I remember when I first brought this Game as a kid, I was so happy we got a game that followed after Adventures and included Krystal. My only regret was I beat the game too damn fast lol. I definitely replayed it so many times
