      Marilyn Yun ... and all of the country that Nashville has been turning out from session bands. Hell, today, even Willie and Merle use them now (lookup Django and Jimmie, their new album . What a shame.

    Half drunk here tonight on 'Old Crow Bourbon whiskey' 50 years gone since I bought my first Waylon Jennings album. Honky Tonk Heroes. Waylon was a real Honky Tonk Hero. When all other music fails, I turn to Waylon. I keep a big Gibson guitar next to me, and yes, because of true country singers like Waylon I can play that big guitar. All of the great Hanks, Jimmie R.Johnny, Willie and Waylon they were my music teachers. Would not even consider playing that junk that they put out today. A shot of Old Crow Kentucky Bourbon whiskey to all of those country greats. Salute to all of you.

      @@ezsmith3765 Bad take on the Crow. Number 5 in America bourbon whiskey to this day. I guess you'd rather pay 150 dollars a bottle for the swill that's made in someone's basement in maybe democrat Connecticut where all of a sudden all of the Johnny come lately Bourbon makers mushroomed up. Kaintucky' is the only place for Bourbon Whiskey..... But you are on the money with the music so you can't be all bad. Enjoy your Whiskey.

    Most people don't know how much an "Outlaw" Waylon was. Back before he was a big star playin small bars across America. He was offered a huge contract by a big Country label but they wanted him to change his gritty style and his hard edged music! Waylon refused to compromise and told the record executives to "Go to hell!" They black balled him from radio stations and tv, even blocked him from the hall of fame for decades! Waylon didn't care he paired up with Willie and they both became Country legends. He did it on his own with his close friends Willie, Johnny (Cash), Kris (Kristofferson), and his beautiful wife Jesse! A man true to his self and his family. Not everyone would have taken that road but that's why he was so special! I grew up listening to him through my dad singing his songs and hearing him on our old record player! Some of these fancy talented "pop" country stars today should take note of how he wrote songs and start emulating him!

      I beg to differ I think you’ll find most if not nearly everyone loves Waylon for his never compromising his style and sound for any record company even though it nearly killed him and ran him broke. Now that’s commitment to his craft and respecting his own talent to do it Waylon’s way. Thank you big man for bringing us the best brew of country known to man kind.

    I love this concert for what it represents in Waylon's life. That pivotal time between the young hell raising Waylon, and the more mature, thoughtful family man who kicked a $1,500.00 a day cocaine habit on his own, and earned his GED at the age of 52 as an example for his young son.
    He was more than a rare talent. He was a rare MAN.

As I remember it was a fantastic concert and the audience would not stop stamping their feet at the end demanding encores. We got 8 encores and he finished by telling us he had to finish "because we ain't rehearsed anymore songs". One of my favourite artists.

    My heart melted in 1991 when I asked Waylon Jennings for his autograph in Las Vegas and he was so sweet to me and even thanked me for asking for his autograph. He wasn't performing but standing talking to Johnny Cash on an early Sunday morning. I walked away thinking what a kind man.

    • @MaryElizabeth99
      @MaryElizabeth99 8 років тому +12

      +Royston Stiver It was awesome, but I was so nervous. My Mom pushed me to go ask for Johnny Cash's autograph. She didn't know who Waylon was. I am a person who doesn't like to bother people too much, and especially big stars who probably get so tired of lack of privacy. Of all things, they were standing between slot machines...it looked funny at the time. They were both such tall men. Cash was dressed all in black. I was a fan of Waylon's before this incident, but I surprised myself in walking away and what a really nice man Waylon was under that tougher exterior. Because I did feel a bit scared walking up to him. Cash didn't seem to feel very good, but just my opinion I felt at the time. And yes, that generation born in the 1920's and 30's are of a different time for sure. I know that from my folks who are long gone now, but what hard workers they were and no complaining, just do it! I grew up on a ranch and you did your chores and taught rules of living. If you think about it in this way, my 4 grandparents were born between 1883 to 1897. They raised my folks who obviously you are what some of your times and those change with each generation. My grandparents were conservative and hard working and passed that on to my folks. Each generation loses something of the previous it seems.

    • @Roystothecoolkid
      @Roystothecoolkid 8 років тому +7

      Yea I love that generation. They had so much respect for others and were hard workers. But I really wish I could've meet Waylon and Johnny. They were both such great musicians, friends and people.

    • @MaryElizabeth99
      @MaryElizabeth99 8 років тому +3

      +Royston Stiver I helped care for 2 little ladies--one was born in 1910 and the other 1913. One was a neighbor. They both said the exact same words to me one day (these ladies didn't know each other): "People aren't nice like they used to be." I believe most people are good at heart, but certainly each generation, each decade changes, and the world is a bit crazy busy now, in a different way than in the past. I understand wishing you could have met them both. I wish so much I could have met many of those in the past, but I at least have had some interesting encounters that I never expected starting at age 16 when I first ran into Simon & Garfunkel in LA (1968). Garfunkel was so sweet and patient and talked to me. I later in the early 1980's ran into Sylvester Stallone while filling out an application at the old MGM Studios. Another encounter was with the musician who wrote "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" (John Denver). I've had other star encounters too. With Cash & Waylon, I honestly wish I could have had a conversation with them, and I am sure if I wasn't so nervous at the time (and shy on top of that), they would have been happy to have a little conversation with me. Waylon especially seemed like a friendly guy. Even in this concert here you can see he seems approachable and I think he really was. This occurred in 1991, and now I'm a little more brave. Keep your eye out, because you never know who you may run into.

    Rhinestone suits and new shiny cars. He and Willie and Johnny had em all for years. Waylon made a change. He forced thru a change that allowed CM artist the freedom to explore outside the Nashville Sound. Imagine a young Waylon on the night Buddy died. He lost a great friend and at the same time was cast back into musical obscurity. Thankfully, that didn't stop him and we have had the wonderful sound of Outlaw Country that I grew up with. Johnnie Cash was right there with him - think of the concert at Folsom Prison). Willie, Kris K., Hank Junior (who had recorded more albums by the time he could vote than most artist in their career). Even Steve Earle owes in a tip of the hat to Waylon for having the chance to play the music that he and others had success with. Think too of Southern Rock - think Marshall Tucker Band & Lynnard Skinnard - I am not sure they would have found an opening without Waylon's pioneering efforts.
    I am sure he was as flawed a human as most of us and probably much less than some. That much is inescapable for mortal man (or woman). Regardless of his Saint/Sinner balance sheet, I love his music. I never met him but I think we would have gotten along well.
    To borrow from Bogie, We'll always have Live in London.

    People are funny. On the one hand, I often questioned God for letting Buddy Holly's plane crash. Can't say I ever thanked Him for sparing Waylon Jennings that same night. Jennings went on to turn Country music on its head. Another Texas "good ol' boy." I figure Buddy never missed one of Waylon's concerts. Praise God, the Divine Disc Jockey.
