Can take your comment to clarify a boomer FE stance? This problem is one of those things that shaped FE discussion for decades. We g When giving adice about what Jeigans being a crutch unit is less about falling off or completing the game, but about new players missing out on a majority of the fun strategy RPG content. Both in training characters, extra story content, extra resources youll miss without having other units or advanced game knowledge. This was advice given to new players going in to FE8 Boomers emphasized the mediorcre growths aspect of Jeigans when warning players going back to FE1 thru 6 when coming from FE8+. This is what created the Oifey sub archtype, cause you can imagine a 14 to 19 year old Seth soloing FE8 cause hes just that good and FE8 is that easy. The same teenager isnt gonna be able to do that in older titles
@Khrene Been playing since the ancient times, and I assure you, those old guides ranked units like FE7 Marcus, Seth, and FE9 Titania low because they warned against them falling off and making the game harder by stealing exp. The truth, though, is that Marcus and Titania are capable of staying relevant till the endgame, you are handed prepromotes that are on par or sometimes better than your starting units (like FE7 Pent), and, in Seth's case, he can even solo FE8 because the game is not that hard. In other words, the community discovered that there are different approaches that make the game easier. Not abusing Seth was a self-imposed challenge run.
Because Seth is poop tier. He's an experience dump in the early game and mid-tier at best in the latter half. The only real significance Seth has is due to his class. He can rescue a unit and move them away from combat. He's strong enough early on that he can be entirely stripped of weaponry so he won't inadvertently take out enemy units, thereby costing other units valuable experience. I legitimately despise the "strong pre-promote" archetype. Almost every single one of them has sub-par stats in comparison to any unit of the same class who's been properly leveled with acceptable growths, not even good ones. On my team, barring the rare exception, pre-promotes always follow the same strategy: 1) Strip of any good gear. 2) Use as a meat shield during the chapter they're gained. 3) Bench them for the remainder of the game unless a better unit with less levels gets taken out. Then they might be sufficient to serve as a backup... Even then, if I have more than a couple of units who haven't met expectations, I'd rather shuffle the entire team and focus on training neglected units than accept a pre-promote.
@@trajectoryunownactually Seth is better on average compared to the other Cavs even when they are trained to level 20 because of boss kill exp. Due to the fact that exp is capped and how boss kill exp is calculated in the gba games having any other unit kill a boss is a loss of exp in the early game meaning he should easily have a few levels when the other Cavs promote giving him another edge. Also a lot of maps in the Sacred Stones aren’t rout so if you are playing efficiently ie when you can complete the objective you do even if enemies remain on the map for other units to gain exp from. If you dislike pre premotes that’s fine and if you stay on maps to grind that is fine but it doesn’t make them worse units. They can be less fun to use for you and that is completely fair but also much more subjective.
I wish they had really leaned hard into his 0 luck. Like why did they even bother giving him the luck growth that does absolutely nothing for him versus pumping that into a different stat and keeping that unique trait.
What I like about knoll is that he doesn't really compete for anything other than a deployment slot, he doesn't really fight and has his own source of xp and his weapons aren't going to anyone else. Like, objectively he is terrible but who am I going to deploy in that slot? a mediocre unit that I won't want to see fighting cause it'd be taking xp away from my other units and clear the map slower? To me the value is in him being a filler unit that's so low investment and self sufficient, he never feels good but he does *something* which is better than most unit I would consider for those deployment slots. And the healing is a good plus too. That zero luck is *very* felt though, luck is a stat you never really think about until a character has luck so low that they do actually face crits regularly. it's a very thresholdy stats where if you got enough extra points are almost worthless but if you are below what you need it's the best stat in the game, but knoll luck is so low that even with a goddess icon you don't really fix it because whether you face 5% or 3% crit you're still not going to take that fight if there is a chance you straight up die. Still, he is probably one of the worst unit that I will pretty much always use in sacred stone and I think that's a really neat design achievement to make a unit so goddamn awful even at it's own niche and still somehow make it an easy deploy in a game with tons of strong units. Also I can't help but wonder, is doing necromancy vegan?
When people dunk on Knoll it takes me back to my first playthrough of Fe8 where Natasha and Moulder were dead a long time ago and I found out on his join map that Saleh is indeed not Pent. When I got Knoll I promoted him straight away, of course thinking I was "wasting" a ring, and he became my mainstay healer... by basically having no other option besides Arthur, but he got there. If it were not because GBA still played vegan style permadeath and I was playing Casual mode or just resetting when one unit dies I would have never gotten this unique experience where our army just had to work with what they have, instead of worrying about how to make an easy game even easier
Fun story: I am currently in the midst of an FE9 playthrough and in said playthrough Tanith’s Holy Guard killed the enemy who drops the double bow, meaning I did not get it. I don’t really care about missing out on the double bow of all items but a summon causing me to lose an S-rank weapon is funny nonetheless.
17:30 small misstep: there are siege tomes and status staves in Engage ;) Though I'd argue summons are, as you said, mostly useful for baiting dangerous enemies into your kill-zones
Speaking of Engage, I think the Lyn doubles also count. They're completely static 1 HP chaff with Mani Kattis, but summoning up to four of them at once allows frontline Lyn users to soak a lot of aggro before the team cleans up on player phase, which I generally find to be an even better use for them than "4 follow-ups for the user". The fact that they cluster around the user also means that using them defensively is more interactive than just sending them out from a Sacred Stones-style summoner, as you still have to consider the Lyn user's own survivability.
One slight disagreement. The best use of Phantoms in FE8, in my opinion, is facetanking Siege Tomes/Shadowshot Gorgons. Especially because their 0-Bulk means that every enemy sees the kill and will almost always target them. Bonus fact, their stats are based on the Summoner's class level, so leveling Knoll up in Summoner greatly increases their ability to dodge, with the increased Speed.
@AlexaRobin21 I mean, sure, but Shadowshot has 13 Mt, combined with the pretty solid Magic stat of Gorgons, still punching through with decent damage, even at +7 Res. I'd rather just feed them Phantoms, then take them quickly at 1-2 range, while they still have a 3-10 equipped.
Yeah Knoll (and arguably Ewan to an extent) would have been more useful in games like Thracia or Binding blade for sure, but I can't trash talk him. Summoners are an excellent concept.
I realized that the characters that join you on this franchise really late like Renault usually have some interesting hidden lore behind them. That was in the old games, of course. In the new ones you can discover every character favorite food and underwear color if you want it. 😂😂😂
With Veronica, I think the best choice is the colorless orb, because the emblems you can get are better than the other choices, you can get one of Lyn, Celica, Soren, Micaiah, Lucina, Veronica, Camilla, Tiki, Byleth, and Claude Of those most of them have several utilities and even the worst of them has at least serviceable combat, and all of them have 2 range except byleth and Tiki And the colorless generics are either decent at chipping or useful for support. I think you can get a martial master/monk with a rescue potentially. Compared to pulling a color and getting anything between an armor knight to a swordmaster, I prefer to go colorless where it’s basically guaranteed you get a unit that can attack at 2 range, and if you don’t you get a unit that can chain guard, so they’re not simply fodder. Also summoning veronica is really funny but also really good cause she’s a mini dancer basically. It’s also something a vegan would do or something

It's very likely that there isn't much more to say on the matter than "he's a sad boy" and I just really like sad boys. Oh well. There is actually one other character with the "Summoner" class in the official games, though he isn't playable. That's Izuka, from Radiant Dawn! He only really has a magic stat, and niche summon usefulness is kind of meh when it's pretty easy to have tanky units in 8. If only 8 had skills like Provoke, he'd be even less useful.
Knoll definitely an example of how at least in gba games when comes to some of best characters when comes to well character happen to be meh to bad units.
A friend and I did a 2 idiots 1 army run in a romhack and thanks to my convincing they used essentially female Knoll (a dark mage named Sei) and surprise surprise, summoner was one of the best life choices we made. Vegan (GROSS /j) On a side note I would love to see you do a review of the romhack Order of the black knights :D
Here are the following reasons I just let him die in my playthroughs 1: I mostly play Erika route so he's already not good in his join chapter 2: by This point in the game I would have already had lute trained up and supported with Ross making her really strong so I wouldn't really need Knoll in most cases 3: Cute girl units>depressed dark mage boi
What the frick how could knoll be bad that's impossible ...But yeah I'm surprised there are people who think Knoll is good. His stats suck and summoner doesn't "save" him, because why use a summoner to prevent character death when you could just... use a better unit to prevent character death. It's sacred stones the enemies are weak Don't get me wrong, I love knoll, he's a fun unit, but he's not a GOOD one because of Sacred Stones being the way it is
My first thought when Knoll appeared was: Game, why are you giving him to me now, what's the point, why? And I didn't use him the whole game. Also, he has zero impact on story and he is just boring.
I barely listened to this vegan coded video because i wanted to read the comments. Id use knoll on hard mode ironman cause im bad at fire emblem and phantoms are funi.
Knoll’s bases are like on par with Raigh’s and he’d still have to compete for guiding ring which imo should go to your healer first or Lugh if you like him. Honestly you’d still want a better combat unit over a summoner in FE6 anyway since the enemy quality is so much better.
Y'know what, I'm gonna come out and say it, each mage needs a niche; Light mages should be the fastest and highest RES by default, Anima mages should have interesting magic options (Sacred Trilogy has a fun idea where Wind is super low damage but 3 range, and Thunder being 1 range with massive crit) and Dark mages should have high DEF and mid Red Light mages can still nuke Dark mages by doubling, giving them a good use case since many games and ROM hacks LOVE using dark mages. Anima mages should get nerfed stat wise but have interesting and fun options, rather than the fucking best option objectively. Dark mages having good DEF means they can have fun Nos tanking a little against physical enemies without jumping through 50 hoops or popping statboosters.
FE fans: sacred stones is too easy. Also FE fans: Seth and Gerik go Brrr Guys always remember Jank and Style will always be more fun than efficient gameplay
I don't think it's just Seth and Gerik though. As I said in the video basically anyone you train up can become a super unit. The examples I gave were the three cavaliers but even Ross Amelia and Ewan can reach that status with a little bit more effort.
I have been exposed... 🙃

A friend and I did a 2 idiots 1 army run in a romhack and thanks to my convincing they used essentially female Knoll (a dark mage named Sei) and surprise surprise, summoner was one of the best life choices we made.
Vegan (GROSS /j)
On a side note I would love to see you do a review of the romhack Order of the black knights :D
Ah yes Knoll,my favourite vegan.
I love ALL Dani Doyle videos!!!! ❤
My Knoll died to an eclipse on chapter 15
Rip
Vegan human flesh when
I will not tolerate this Knoll slander, he might be bad but he's hot af so you must deploy him in every chapter he's available in
Did KratosMVN (The Knoll Fan) send you?
@@DaniDoyle the biggest Knoll fan (KratosMVN) didn't have an influence on my opinion on the hottest dark mage in FEGBA
I'mma keep it a buck with you all I just let knoll die when I play sacred stones mostly because I really have no use for him
Here are the following reasons I just let him die in my playthroughs
1: I mostly play Erika route so he's already not good in his join chapter
2: by This point in the game I would have already had lute trained up and supported with Ross making her really strong so I wouldn't really need Knoll in most cases
3: Cute girl units>depressed dark mage boi
Phantoms are for baiting enemies into my unit swarm
Pfaw you don't Knoll nothing Dani.
Lol
Since summons are phantoms, and knoll can summon an infinite amount would that make them ethical vegan human flesh?
Calling Forde a potential "super unit?" Careful, you might end up summoning a certain someone yourself.
Mekkah has already subjected me to his transphobia via DMs, so it wouldn't be anything new.
What the frick how could knoll be bad that's impossible
...But yeah I'm surprised there are people who think Knoll is good. His stats suck and summoner doesn't "save" him, because why use a summoner to prevent character death when you could just... use a better unit to prevent character death. It's sacred stones the enemies are weak
Don't get me wrong, I love knoll, he's a fun unit, but he's not a GOOD one because of Sacred Stones being the way it is
Lol Knoll getting beaten by his own berserked summon made my day. Thanks Dani!
Man, why do i keep watching videos on the same topics just because i like the game.
Was there another Knoll Video? Or do you just mean fe8?
Love me some thicc Moulder
Oh what was that romhack with the fancy Gerik sprite.
Scared Trilogy
Thank you. 💜
Id like a game with a summoner jagen. Instead of a busted unit, a unit that provides utility and ok chip
In fact, you should do a playthrough with knoll replacing Seth as a prepromoted summoner
Where's Human Flesh link? Asking for a friend.
Right next to human flesh Zelda
I use summons to deal with siege tomes eyeballs.
Where is the link for the sponsor? Did the vegans get on your case?
The link is my subscription button winky face
I thought you were sponsoring a zombie game where you play as a zombie.
No, just a meme/joke/parody sponsorship not a real one
2:06 is eating human flesh *_vegan_* ? Truly a question for the ages...
Only if you eat vegans (since they don't have any non-vegan elements inside them)
Knoll would be good in FE6? Hmmm what Knoll was hacked to replace Sophia 🤔🤔🤔
hmmm ask @eaturgrns ...
Knoll’s bases are like on par with Raigh’s and he’d still have to compete for guiding ring which imo should go to your healer first or Lugh if you like him. Honestly you’d still want a better combat unit over a summoner in FE6 anyway since the enemy quality is so much better.
My *favorite* meal delivery service finally sponsored my *favorite* FETuber ❤️
😋 Yummy 😋
Y'know what, I'm gonna come out and say it, each mage needs a niche; Light mages should be the fastest and highest RES by default, Anima mages should have interesting magic options (Sacred Trilogy has a fun idea where Wind is super low damage but 3 range, and Thunder being 1 range with massive crit) and Dark mages should have high DEF and mid Red
Light mages can still nuke Dark mages by doubling, giving them a good use case since many games and ROM hacks LOVE using dark mages. Anima mages should get nerfed stat wise but have interesting and fun options, rather than the fucking best option objectively. Dark mages having good DEF means they can have fun Nos tanking a little against physical enemies without jumping through 50 hoops or popping statboosters.
Also vegan
tfw when *Moulder* makes better use of Dark magic than the actual dark magic user... (if you're wiling to engage in some roguish tactics)
Knoll should consider becoming a vegan. It might improve his luck growth through sheer good karma.
Maybe you'd like Knoll more if he was a vegan
Dani can I have a link to you sponsorship pls? 🥺
Sorry but ever since Echoes of Wisdom, the sponsor uses Zelda instead
I didnt know Knoll was a vegan, is that why his combat skills are lacking? He missed his Nosferatu follow-up thinking about steak
Fuck……Intelligent Systems did Knull the Creator of Symbiotes dirty… I wager Marvel did a much better job with him
sacred stones is easy, anyone can be super broken fairly easily.
THE HARD BONUS STATS FROM FE6 ARE A BUG AND NOT A FEATURE?!
Yes
doesnt matter, addington summons are the only good ones anyways 📦. Bestest unit, I assume a walking calculator would be vegan
Box Moment
Could a vegan and a human flesh eater ever truly fall in love?
Question, is human flesh vegan friendly?
@@faultyvideos2215 yes it is! There are no animals harmed in the process of making Human Flesh!
Kratos MegaVegankNolllover
The best sponsor ad read that I ever witness. #vegan
it's knollver vegan u_u
FE fans: sacred stones is too easy.
Also FE fans: Seth and Gerik go Brrr
Guys always remember Jank and Style will always be more fun than efficient gameplay
I don't think it's just Seth and Gerik though. As I said in the video basically anyone you train up can become a super unit. The examples I gave were the three cavaliers but even Ross Amelia and Ewan can reach that status with a little bit more effort.
Sooo are we just gonna pretend Crrature Campaign doesnt exist
Okay okay yeah Knoll this, Knoll that, but that sponsorship is the greatest thing I've seen, thanks for making people more aware of Human Flesh
It was really fun to put together
Does your sponsor have Vegan options?
My vegan friends hate summoning because it's unethical
Apparently the reanimated souls are unethically sourced or something but I don't know the details
i would kiss knoll on the lips probably. and pet him and call him a good boy. or something like that
why be a vegan, when human flesh exists? what a great sponsor.
Vegan knoll oh no😢
10:46 I like my nintendo sony gamecube portable station pink edition
2:06 WTF?!!!
Edit: I mean, it's funny lol
Tofu is vegan human flesh.
What are these sick looking mods? :0
Sacred Trilogy
@@DaniDoyle Thank youi. :)
>Breaking the Eggs
So he awakens trans people? :3

I refuse to accept this Forde propaganda
I will never understand why people act like a 1 point stat deficit makes a unit worthless
It’s not that. I just refuse to accept it because he’s a dork and he’s lame
