- Master of Roads...in 1955, anyway. This beautiful work of art in steel and chrome is the oldest car I've ever driven...and I'm so glad that I got to slide behind the wheel! From the quirky starting procedure to the nylon upholstery, this car screams mid 50s. Wouldn't you really rather have a Buick?

Doug, that rope on the back of the front seat is not a handle. It’s where you drape your lap robe.
Fancy!
Love it Doug! That's from a time when every single surface and every single aspect of the car is stylized and thought through. Thanks for sharing.
It was so cool to experience! Always looked at these at shows, never got to ride or drive in one.
Super nice car!
Thank you for sharing.

Great car great video thinks Sir.
Like Leno said, if you get in accident in that car, they just hose the dash off, and sell it to the next guy!
Hahahaha I’ve heard that somewhere from him…perfect!
Nice drive, Doug. Just to clarify; The first generation Buick V-8 was called a "nail head" because the valves were considered smaller than average, thus, "like a nail". They were produced from 1953 to 1966 from 322 to 425 cubic inches in size and developed plenty of power and torque to move those big land yachts. Thanks for the ride!
My grandfather got a new Buick every two years after WW2, up until the 70s.
Very cool!!
Got in big trouble as a kid when we would go into the garage and play in the Buick, including flipping up the windshield mounted antenna. Of course we never remembered to put it back down, so when grandpa backed out it would snap off. Not once but twice! Early 50s roadmasters.
@@tedecker3792 What a great memory! I’m sure it wasn’t fun at the time though.
If you only crash into Chevy Sparks, you'll be fine.
The Roadmaster will go right through one!
All series had four venti-ports or portholes in 1955, except the Special. It had three per side.
My parents had a 1955 Buick Super, black 4-door sedan. It was the same body as the Roadmaster but with a little lower trim level. It looked like a mafia staff car. My step dad sold if after 2 years for more than he paid for it new!
Very nice in black.
It makes one wonder if that was a rarely optioned RM, no air, crank windows. Seems like odd omissions on a top of the line Buick...even for '55
I’d say power windows were more common than a/c, but I do think it’s quite low option for the era.
On the 2 door Roadmasters, power windows were standard, for a/c that’s more rare considering most houses didn’t have a/c, it cost around $550 to have your car equipped with it
@@apachehalloween Interesting that the coupe got power windows standard…
I think in 1955 the four ports meant it had the larger engine.
I don't think they were always consistent & previous years it may have meant it was a Roadmaster?
My parents had a 1955 Super Skyblue Convertible when I was a kid.
Roadmaster & Super both had rectangular window vents & I think were longer overall than the other models.
Roadmaster & Super had the horizontal speedometer too.
Beautiful! Gull Grey/Dover White! Mine was Condor Yellow/Willow Green!!! Had Wonder Bar Radio! Next to the high beams, was a foot switch for the radio 😮guy who i bought from! His other Roadmaster had power windws/air conditioning! His was Maroon/Carlsbad Black !!
In one of the first NTSB tests they ran a 49 Roadmaster into a VW, each going 50 mph. The VW was destroyed. They shut the hood on the Buick and drove it away. 😂
What a neat car. It appears to be original. That's really rare. You sound either nervous or giddy. Are you always that way, or is it the '55 Buick?
Giddy! I’d never driven anything like that before.

Don’t tell Mike.
Lovely though this is, from a styling point of view I think my favourite "Roadie" is the '49 Sedanette.
A great-looking ride for sure.
I love cars from the 1950's. From a block away, I can tell the difference between a Buick, Chevy, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Cadillac, Ford, etc. from that era. Most cars these days all look the same to me. If I owned this car, I would seriously consider adding A/C, and getting the wipers fixed, and would drive it on a regular basis.
I can remember an old "Three Stooges" episode where Moe started a car by stepping on the gas pedal. I didn't know cars still had that feature as recent as 1955.
Such a great era for design, and technology! I, too, would put a Vintage Air system in this car. It is now being driven regularly, which is nice. Saw it last night when I went to dinner.
You puppy 😊
Maybe you should get a car from that era
I need better/more garage space first.
rare and gorgeous! Nice as a Cadillac.
I own a Radmaster 1955 cab :) ^^
Lovely!
Nice car. Love it !
I still think that gas pedal starter is the coolest.
The oldest car I've ever driven, was a classic car that a neighbor rented for a week for their wedding anniversary 50th and let anybody who wanted to drive it give it a go, a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado rag top, black exterior white leather interior, it drove so nice the car just cruise along I didn't even feel any bumps in the road.
I’d like to drive one!
My Dad bought a new '55 Buick Super Riviera. Interestingly, The Dealer was able to arrange to have them travel to the assembly plant in Michigan and see it being assembled and drive it away. The Roadmaster and Super were identical except for some minor cosmetic trim details. I took my drivers road test in that car. I still think of it as the best of the fifties.
That must’ve been an amazing trip to see! Fun cars :)
