I really appreciate the fact that you gave separate marks for location, staffing and food quality in this review. From the beginning, it was clear that you were besotted with the pub, so I was bracing myself for an overly high overall score. I think 7/10 is more than fair for what you were served - especially given that the ribs were slow-cooked in advance and being kept warm (or cold) and heated up, which isn't exactly 'cooked to order'.
A very fair and balanced review. Have enjoyed many holidays in North Yorkshire over the past 50 years and there are some great pubs to eat in. One of my favourites is The Boardwalk at Lealholm which is about 20 minutes from Whitby. Might need to book that one as it gets very busy on a Sunday for Sunday Dinner.
Gorgeous. The cob of corn is grown next to the tea plantation on Ilkley Moor, the famous supplier for Yorkshire Gold. I can proudly say I haven't watched any soaps for 20+ years.
I used to be that person until I read a review were a poster left negative feedback and the café responded and asked why didn't you mention this while you were in the shop ? I thought this to be a perfectly fair comment so when asked now I say something along the lines of very nice thank you but the chips not to my liking , gives them chance to respond in person.
@@geebee6737 I worked in HMP Brixton 1979/80. The mess had a cook (a prison officer) who was legendary for his ill temper. The food was cheap and very good. We were served by prisoners. A dining companion of mine said that he had a maggot on his lettuce. he flicked it away and continuously berated the server. As we left the cook appeared. He asked who had the maggot? I pointed to my colleague. My colleague said he had flicked it away. The cook head butted him. He asked me how my meal had been. 'Superb!' I said. The next day I received double sausages on my breakfast. Moral: 'Don't complain".
The pub used to be called The Commercial before it decided to change its name due to the TV series. The sign showing the Woolpack used to be kept round the back of the pub in readiness for filming days. The food was always very good and well worth a lunchtime visit.
Another great video and review Gary. Your presenting style is much appreciated. Real, down to earth and honest. No need for flash body language, buzz words and gimmicks. I hope your channel does well.
I visited the woolpack back in the 80s,and as you said a wonderful atmosphere in there ,and to top it off ,stan richards (seth Armstrong) was in there playing the piano, they still used the village for filming when i went 😊
I'm not in any way a soap fan, although I did know about the Woolpack in Emmerdale. What I didn't know was that it was a real pub! I always thought it was just a set, but here you are, in the Woolpack, tucking into BBQ ribs. So I learned something new today. As for the food, I don't particularly like corn on the cob and probably would have asked for it to be changed. But to what... chips? I don't think so, those things looked dodgy from the off. While the ribs were excellent, for me, those chips would've spoilt everything. I'm not sure I'd be given it a 7, although I do understand why you did. Great video, I like your way of reviewing these eating establishments, keep up the good work! 👏
Great review Gary. Lovely environment, the pork ribs looked delicious, as did the corn-on-cob and coleslaw. Pity about the chips. Glad you enjoyed and sharing with us 👍👍👍
WOW!!! I watched "Emmerdale" when I was living in New Zealand, was thrilled to bits that the featured pub is still a going concern. THANK you for this upload; what a buzz!!!
Loved this Gary . Can’t believe you were at the Woolpack . You gave a good honest review as always , perhaps we may see you reviewing the food from Coronation Street ‘Roy’s Roll’s. One of his full breakfasts and a barm cake😂. Thanks Gary.👏👏🙏🏼

Another good review Gary. The ribs looked melt-in-your-mouth delicious, I think they would have been heated to order though mate, ribs that good will take 2-3 hours to cook. Yep, in-the-bin-style chips lol.
Great video. I love me a rack of bbq ribs. The chips almost looked like they were the discards. I'm not a huge coleslaw guy but that one looked quite tasty!

Yes that helps - or we have resorted to washing them to get the starch off then a thorough dry. Having said that we have had some that just burn no matter what you do!

Been there several times. First with my late father when I was but a youngster. Even if the food isn't up to par, you're sitting in amongst history. I just had a pint there and looked at the cast photos. Smashing place! 👍
Good evening Mr Gary, hope you are doing well. Congratulations on how fast this channel has grown!. Up until now, we've had a nice little community here. The bigger a channel gets the more people tune in and the bigger the audience becomes! Unfortunately, the downside of that means now the trolls will start coming, and there's not much you can do about it, but there are certain steps you can take to reduce the nonsense. First is by setting your channel to hold inappropriate comments. Another is by deleting comments manually that still managed to get through even though they were reviewed by UA-cam. And lastly, never reply back to anyone who is being abusive. They will target anyone and everyone including you! They might say something completely unnecessary just to trigger you, and pull you into their BS. It could be something as little as commenting on your clothes or hairstyle which isn't true, but they want you to respond because then they think they got you! Anyway, good luck with everything and I know you'll do well because you're a very likeable man!👍💯🌟
Good evening Asad. Thank you very much for your kind comments. I've had quite a few trolls already my friend, don't worry about it. I won't let them affect the channel in any way and I appreciate you being very kind. Cheers mate.
Great review Gary. That´s it ... I´m all caught up! I thought I better catch up with all your videos as I think your channel is going to become massive amongst the food review channels ... and so it should. I love food and I love cooking but never been into food review channels. I often find youtubers completely self-absorbed, over the top with a dellusional sense of self-importance and pretending to know much more than they do. Your channel is a fresh of breath air and very relaxing to watch and you and your camera man deserve all the success that I know is going to come!!
Thank you very much Melanie. That’s means a lot and I always say I try to be honest as possible and it’s about the food, not myself. Very kind of you and thanks for watching all of the videos - I’m sorry if staring at me eating for too long began to get off putting. Lol. All the best.
Gary...this is a great angle. The UK we overseas fans of British TV see often features an eatery. To see it featured in real life is a treat. Darn shame there's no real 'Rover's Return'. Would've been great to see you review Betty Turpin's famous hot-pot!
Really nice to see a traditional public house Totally agree with your mark on the food. Just goes to show- not even terrible chips can't dampen Gary's bubbly nature and enthusiasm 😄
Glad overall you enjoyed your time at the Woolpack. I have a great recipe i use for bbq sauce, which i find is especially good with chicken. A fair whack of roughly equal quantities of brown sugar and cider vinegar, a big splodge of ketchup, a teaspoon of English mustard powder, the same of paprika (ideally smoky), a quarter teaspoon each of dried oregano, garlic powder and onion powder. Give it a good stir, it's great just raw, or heated up.
Another entertaining review as usual Gary - well presented and informative. What a shame there was no Amos Brearley on hand - "Nay, nay , nay Mr Wilks!"
Been there twice, Gary, I was not too impressed with the food. In my database it has a 6 out of 10. The ingredients are top notch, but the last time we went there, everything was over cooked. Had to send my steak back as it was medium to well done and I ordered it rare. But the service and the beer was very good, they had proper strong lager. But for me personally it was disappointing, it felt like a tourist trap through and through. But another fantastic honest review, mate, loved it. Speak to you soon and you've got mail. Have a wonderful rest of your weekend.😊
Seems you had a very similar experience to me Frank. It was good quality but lacking in some areas. The chips were soggy as well which was a shame. Sorry to hear about your steak but I can imagine in the summer, it's a great place to visit. Enjoy your weekend mate!
Never been in to soaps tho Emmerdate was one of my mam's favorites - not sure if she went there when on a holiday in Yorks many moons ago but she did visit the early Harry Ramsden's and was none too complimentary about it. Your comment about the pub not being a 'tourist trap' surprised me since that is really it's attraction and I guess that prices really do reflect that - seems a tad expensive to me. But, again, a really good review.
It looks so nice I can’t have that meal with the chronic disease I have I do miss ribs and sweetcorn but they are my enemy now glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking us with you great price as well 😊
Gary, still bingeing all videos since discovering your channel. I’m loving it. So don’t they still use this pub to film Emmerdale now then? Looking forward to even more content from you. Have you heard of Mercato? It’s a company that does food halls in London with various cuisines. I have the one in Mayfair on my list which is set in a church. It looks so beautiful. Would love to see more Italian restaurant reviews from you also. Keep the amazing work coming Gary; we love you 😊
The ribs you get out the supermarket are the exact same as these. Cooked the same way and the same amount of sauce. £21 for Crap chips and supermarket ribs and a watery corn on the cob.
When you said you would be in Yorkshire I never thought you would hunt out such a famous pub. What a great surprise ! Like many others I thought it looked mostly very good but (for me) not excellent so your grading was surely perfect. I really enjoyed seeing this much loved pub as it is day to day with all your incredible camerawork. As always another wonderful review.
I completely agree with the score you gave this meal - i'm surprised the chef didn't notice as those chips didn't look right - maybe down to the type of potato used, old oil or incorrect temperature of the oil?
Hey Gaz, nosh looks nice there ! A few years ago I went to the actual outdoor set , in the middle of nowhere to install a new coffee machine in the green room. I don't watch Emmerdale so didn't recognise any of the actors, my missus used to watch it avidly and even she said she doesn't recognise any of the actors, probably cast changing over the years. The only actor we did recognise was Reese Dinsdale, he was lovely and chatted with us for about 10 minutes, he said he hadn't long joined the soap as a writer, director and actor. You may remember him from Home To Roost back in the 80s, he played John Thaw's son. Anyhoo, slightly off topic there , that food looks fab !! Another fab review, cheers, Daz, Leicester.
Hello Gary, being an old timer i remember when it was called Emmerdale Farm, And the hub was in Annie's kitchen ( seemed they had 6 meals a day + snacks😅) Amos,Mr Wilkes ran the boozer. No racks of ribs, corn 🌽 on the cob then 😮 Funnily enough Gary, i thought that the chips were some of the best looking I've seen for a long time.😊Now i have a problem with ribs.In a B.B.Q restaurant, with in house smoker& grill pit it is a brilliant way to cook. However in the standard kitchen, the cooking time would be a draw back, especially with large numbers. So i would say,my opinion only. Frozen or pre- cooked and chilled. And honestly i don't mind that a bit.Over the years since Bob Payton opened Chicago Ribs back in the 1980's I've spent more time on racks than a Medieval Villain 😢 Another fine location, well shot and for fans a must visit 😊 A very good menu, and equally very fair prices. A real destination eaterie. Safe journeys both Allan&Family
Gary never apologise for finger food eating, had to be done with certain foods..looked yummy..ok the chips looked a little sad...but those ribs looked delicious ..ty for sharing 🎉
Well I have never watched Emmerdale so had no idea that was a real pub! To be fair they could have tried to fleece the soap fans with some extortionate prices so it seemed reasonable for what it was. A fair rating I think, Gary👍
Hiya Gary, I like my chips browned off like what you had there, Every Friday I have my Fish and Chips from Cottage Chippy in Whitehaven, and I always ask for my chips to be browned off and they quite happily do it for me, I have Large Fish and Chips and a tub of gravy and it comes to £9.40, which I think is reasonable, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England
I find ribs are one of those things that are never just okay. In my experience they are either awful or excellent and looking at those I suggest they fall into the latter category. A good portion served up too and it’s a shame the chips didn’t come up to scratch . Another top upload and 50k beckons 😉😉
It looks like they have split the menu into Daytime and Evening now. Maybe for the summer, or due to business of the restaurant at certain times. As i scrolled for this video, i realised i had missed quite a few of your older ones, i have some catching up to do.
What an incredible pub! Looks amazing. As for the food; the ribs looked great. The chips were awful, almost as dark as the ribs, so unappetizing. I always thought that grated carrots were a part of any coleslaw recipe. The corn on the cob looked good too. Must say that I had imagined a bigger portion of ribs for that price. However, I think it is definitely worth a visit. Love the pub itself. Your saying : Yeah, absolutely brilliant to the waiter reminded me of a hilarious part of Peter Kay's comedy😂Thanks so much Gary for showing us this pub and as usual, a fantastic review.
I work in hospitality we have no service charge customers tip as they feel so you work hard to make them have a fantastic experience it keeps you on your game. I'm housekeeping in a boutique hotel so we always do our best because tips are only given for great service.
Hi Gary its a dump went there many yrs ago there was nothing there not even people i was heading for holmfirth for the summer wine experience and got side tracked the door at the back with the carpark is the actual entrance to the pub. there is a pub called the white hart at holmfirth used in summer wine where u can get food and a pint best wishes.
Good evening Gary 👍a beautiful country pub setting, you're right about those chips I thought they looked overcooked frankly, the corn on the cob should of had 'corn forks in each end and whilst the ribs appeared well cooked I thought if you're going to eat half the meal with fingers as people generally do with ribs then a finger bowl and napkins should have come with the meal, but that's just me. I thought it looked an average plate at a reasonable cost but I enjoyed the video, cheers✌️🍻
Living in the USA the ribs and slaw were the only thing we would have a traditional Soul food Bar-B-Que. The other sides would have been home jaded Mac and cheese, Potok salad, and one slice of white bread 😊 (how the bread being started I have no clue?). As always a great job ( the camera work had me on the phone to my local rib place 😅. Be safe and take care.
.. can't beat a real ale . Really good video , interesting local m8 . Can't beat chips with skins on , tomorrow I'm emptying one of.my potatoe bags and looking forward to some new potatoe roasted . But again you.pay for the nostalgia. Would have been better if you did a tour of the pub ie the bar , since.most of emerdale in some episodes focused on that part of the pub .
Sometimes you gotta take the excellent with the not so great. One summer we visited several monasteries in Bavaria with the reputation for excellent in house beer brewing. I had some good or excellent meals and also some not so great meals, but experiencing really nice old monasteries with some excellent beer made on location - I would definitely eat at those places again! Same with this pub. You can just go for a beer, but eating there and hanging out a while longer is worth some okay chips ever so often. It is all about priorities.
Never been an Emmerdale viewer, think I'd be more excited by a trip to the Queen Vic or The Rovers Return but The Woolpack looks very cosy. I was hoping those chips were just a bit rustic but you may be right that the oil needs changing if it didn't taste good. Glad the rest of the meal was decent though. Thought we might see you ordering some dessert after but no such luck, haha.
Excellent video as always. Didn't realise that was even a real pub so learn something every day. Never watched Emmerdale myself but I remember my mother watching it back when it was Emmerdale farm and the most exciting thing that happened was someone left a gate open.
I really appreciate the fact that you gave separate marks for location, staffing and food quality in this review. From the beginning, it was clear that you were besotted with the pub, so I was bracing myself for an overly high overall score.

Indeed Sam. As I've replied previously, scoring is more reflective of food rather than everything else.
Only found you the other week and I would say your one of the best well done 🇮🇪

All the more reason to double fry. First at lower temperature than cool down and fry at high temperature.
Yes that helps - or we have resorted to washing them to get the starch off then a thorough dry. Having said that we have had some that just burn no matter what you do!

Definitely slow cooked in a bag in a factory. Not a complaint, Sainsbury's do a similar 'slow cooked' range in the fridge which is fabulous.
The original pub in Emmerdale was "The Falcon" in the Dales village of Arncliffe.Worth a visit too.

I often find youtubers completely self-absorbed, over the top with a dellusional sense of self-importance and pretending to know much more than they do. Your channel is a fresh of breath air and very relaxing to watch and you and your camera man deserve all the success that I know is going to come!!
Spot on Melanie, Gary really has created a superb channel 👏
Thank you very much Melanie. That’s means a lot and I always say I try to be honest as possible and it’s about the food, not myself.
Very kind of you and thanks for watching all of the videos - I’m sorry if staring at me eating for too long began to get off putting. Lol. All the best.
Thanks Tel 😊
that coleslaw looked superb, thanks for another enjoyable episode!
Glad you enjoyed it.
Gary...this is a great angle. The UK we overseas fans of British TV see often features an eatery. To see it featured in real life is a treat. Darn shame there's no real 'Rover's Return'. Would've been great to see you review Betty Turpin's famous hot-pot!
Thank you and yes a great shame
Another great review good work as always
I appreciate that Gary!
Really nice to see a traditional public house
Totally agree with your mark on the food.
Just goes to show- not even terrible chips can't dampen Gary's bubbly nature and enthusiasm 😄
Absolutely Paul. Thank you mate and all the best.
Here here💯
Those chips looked awful
First video and I can already tell you're a cool guy. A Very wholesome lad.
Thank you kindly Declan. Much appreciated!
Very nice Jon. Sounds delicious!
Another great review gary as always food looked nice always give an honest opinion great work
Thank you Julie!
Another entertaining review as usual Gary - well presented and informative. What a shame there was no Amos Brearley on hand - "Nay, nay , nay Mr Wilks!"
Thanks Philip. Indeed!
Thank you David. I actually expected more people to be there but I'm guessing in the summer it will be busy.
Hi Gary another good review. Looks a lovely place. Food looks good except the chips. Roll on the next review 👍👍
Thanks 👍!!
Love ❤ the decor Gary!
This is a lovely little pub, Helen ❤️🌹
I watch emmerdale ,I cant wait to see whats it's realy like inside , Thanks gary for this review,
Glad you like it Malcolm!
Love to see you go The farmhouse 👌👍
Where is it located?
@@GaryEats few yts have done it but your genuine
You must of heard of it
Its at coventry coventry
Yes I have, thank you. Will try!
Wow that is the definition of comfort food! / Ribs certainly a winner for me. Mark.
Ribs great. Chips not so much.
That’s flippin legendary. The Woolpack !!
An amazing throwback Andy!
It looks so nice I can’t have that meal with the chronic disease I have I do miss ribs and sweetcorn but they are my enemy now glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking us with you great price as well 😊
I’m sorry to hear that Michelle. I hope you are okay.
The score was spot on Gary can’t wait for the next video 👍🏼👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed it Sean!
The only problem I have with your reviews is that I get hungry watching, and end up foraging around in the kitchen. 😂
Mt sincere apologies
Gary, still bingeing all videos since discovering your channel. I’m loving it. So don’t they still use this pub to film Emmerdale now then?
Looking forward to even more content from you. Have you heard of Mercato? It’s a company that does food halls in London with various cuisines. I have the one in Mayfair on my list which is set in a church. It looks so beautiful. Would love to see more Italian restaurant reviews from you also. Keep the amazing work coming Gary; we love you 😊
I’m doing Italian very soon, the Emmerdale set is now filmed elsewhere 👍
@@GaryEats amazing. Cheers Gaz 🍝🍕
That looks like a cosy spot, perfect for weather like this 😊👍
Indeed.
Emmerdale is the only soap I watch, and have done 50+years, so this was a treat! Yes you should have had real ale Gary!!
You’re welcome Jane!
The ribs you get out the supermarket are the exact same as these. Cooked the same way and the same amount of sauce. £21 for Crap chips and supermarket ribs and a watery corn on the cob.
Unfortunately, I have to agree with you. These were clearly ready-made ribs.
@@GaryEats such a shame Gary because ribs done right are fantastic
Last time I saw the Woolpack, Amos Brearly was running it ;)
Lol.
Glad you enjoyed it Stephanie. I try to go to lots of different places!
I completely agree with the score you gave this meal - i'm surprised the chef didn't notice as those chips didn't look right - maybe down to the type of potato used, old oil or incorrect temperature of the oil?
Thanks Matthew 😊
Top man Daz. How have you been?
Looks a lovely plate of foods ribs look amazing enjoy gazzer
The ribs were very good and it’s an interesting pub to visit
Thanks Allan. As always, I enjoy reading your comments as it helps me improve my videos!
Neigh!, Mr Wilkes!!
Gary never apologise for finger food eating, had to be done with certain foods..looked yummy..ok the chips looked a little sad...but those ribs looked delicious ..ty for sharing 🎉
Thank you!
Well I have never watched Emmerdale so had no idea that was a real pub! To be fair they could have tried to fleece the soap fans with some extortionate prices so it seemed reasonable for what it was. A fair rating I think, Gary👍
Indeed Sheila. Thanks for watching!
Great review by yourself and well done cameraman as always. You both deserve the success the channel is having 👍🇮🇪
Thank you so much 😀
It all looks lovely. I would have given the food a 9/10. The potatoes didn't look too bad.
Nice!
The chips looked lovely love them well cooked.
Fair enough!
Nailed it Ian. These were good but nothing to write home about.
It looks like they have split the menu into Daytime and Evening now. Maybe for the summer, or due to business of the restaurant at certain times. As i scrolled for this video, i realised i had missed quite a few of your older ones, i have some catching up to do.
Thanks Deano. Really enjoyed watching your video mate
Thank you very much as always, Mohammad, for your excellent comment
Chips aside that looked lovely Gary! Another top video
Thanks Matty!
loved the old Emerdale farm ❤
Great memories 🌹❤️
Rude not to have a pint in the Woolpack Gary, great review as always, take care, Gareth
Thanks Gareth!
I work in hospitality we have no service charge customers tip as they feel so you work hard to make them have a fantastic experience it keeps you on your game. I'm housekeeping in a boutique hotel so we always do our best because tips are only given for great service.
Great stuff mate. Cheers.
Well done Gary your reviews are climbing won’t be long till you hit 50k
Fingers crossed! Thanks Chris 😊
great review Gary as always,
Thank you Angela!
Also, I've had the ribs there before, and they were lovely. They used to do wonderful garlic mushrooms, but that's been dropped from the menu.
Glad you enjoyed it Kristian!
I’ll take a look thank you, thank you for the recommendation
Good evening Gary 👍a beautiful country pub setting, you're right about those chips I thought they looked overcooked frankly, the corn on the cob should of had 'corn forks in each end and whilst the ribs appeared well cooked I thought if you're going to eat half the meal with fingers as people generally do with ribs then a finger bowl and napkins should have come with the meal, but that's just me. I thought it looked an average plate at a reasonable cost but I enjoyed the video, cheers✌️🍻
Thanks Martin. Completely agree with you, a nice bit of history but maybe one that's better for a drink than food.
Thank you very much for watching and commenting Henry. I hope you have a great week.
Hi Gary great review ribs looked great chips didn't looked to inviting corn nice well done👍
Thanks Craig!
Ribs looked really good love Corn and its really nice to see home made coleslaw a rarity today my favourite of the meal you had 😊😊😊😊
It was good but not top drawer, thanks for watching and commenting 😊
.. can't beat a real ale .
Nice mate. Have a good weekend.
I completely agree with you
Never been an Emmerdale viewer, think I'd be more excited by a trip to the Queen Vic or The Rovers Return but The Woolpack looks very cosy. I was hoping those chips were just a bit rustic but you may be right that the oil needs changing if it didn't taste good. Glad the rest of the meal was decent though. Thought we might see you ordering some dessert after but no such luck, haha.
Haha. Fair enough! Wait until Monday's upload... I may have a surprise for you.
@@GaryEats Oh my goodness, the day may finally arrive for a proper pudding review? 😯😋🍨
I promise you I will get a pudding review done for you before Xmas!
Excellent video as always. Didn't realise that was even a real pub so learn something every day. Never watched Emmerdale myself but I remember my mother watching it back when it was Emmerdale farm and the most exciting thing that happened was someone left a gate open.
It’s still a working pub and in the summer gets very busy
You should do some videos up here in Bonnie Scotland 🏴 Gary. You will not be disappointed. Great video today what a place to eat 👌🏼👍🏼
I'll be doing plenty early next year Alex. Thanks mate!
The Kitchin Edinburgh. All Scottish products from the sea to the land. 👌🏼😵💫🤤
Nice your in good old Yorkshire us Yorkshire people are so friendly 😊
Yes they are! Loved it in Yorkshire.
Big up Gary used love emerdale not so much now keep up the great work 🎉❤
Ah, that's a shame Jen. Thank you :)
