1961. George C. Scott was only 34 years old when this film was made. Just 9 years later he won the Oscar for 'Patton' at age 43! The complete hair and face makeover for the role made him look 63.
Excellent scene. Two of the finest actors of that era. When Rossen hired Dede Allen to edit the film, she said "I don't know anything about pool." Rossen said, "This isn't about pool. Pool is boring. Its about the characters."
@@ColdToiletSeatssame here. Little inflections of tone, body language, facial expression. I think it all came naturally to them. Some things can’t be taught.
The menacing authority of Scott is on full display here. Him, Newman, Gleason gave maybe the best composite performance of a triumvirate in film history. This a masterclass in acting. The Hustler is easily of the greatest movies ever. Scenes like this one, are the reason why.
This is why I love The Color of Money. We find out that Eddie never learned, never changed. He tried so hard to become the person he hated the most (Burt) and even failed at that. Burt was right all along… Eddie is a born looser
@@dikluegert6658, I think Eddie found himself at the end because it wasn’t about the money anymore, he was striving to be the best at the game he loved
@@jameshurtado5389 it was never about the money. That’s the point. By the time we “meet” Vincent, it is very clear that Vincent is THE BEST because he loves the game… he hasn’t been corrupted yet… until Eddie comes along…
Affirmative. This is where we learn that Eddie will pay dearly to defeat Minnesota Fats. Love your assessment “great, real, ugly.” The realism and ugliness are what makes this film great. Well said.
What a combo Newman and George C Scott……this top notch acting is not seen today
Amen.
That's just nostalgia. There's way better actors out there even now. Paul Newman is cool but he doesn't have much range.

for sure I've probably watched this movie 200 times still always learn something new

In my opinion, George C. Scott is among the 10 greatest actors !
Anything he played in, he was gold!

I remember watching this movie when it first came out on TV. It was a slice of life you were never shown before.
Definitely underrated. Great actor.
Great scene, great dialogue
One of my all time favorite films
Unfortunately, Eddie doesn't know how far he has to go to become a first-rate hustler. By the time he finds out, the damage is done.
True but then he wouldn't have met Tom Cruise.

Telling him to “kiss off” was much more than he deserved. Greasy vulture.
Paul Newman was a beautiful man
Self sabotage, imposter syndrome, this scene understands me. They don’t make movies like these anymore. It feels like I’m watch a book come to life.
My favorite movie with Paul 👍
cool hand luke and color of money are great too :)
Such a great quote.. feeling sorry for your self, sorry enjoyed by all.. SPECIALLY THE BORN LOSERS..(holy shit)
I'm already rich, I like action 1:38
Deep!!
That's how a father would talk to his son
I think Bert had his thumbs broken it was a set-up, because fast eddie said no to him, so he made him vulnerable, Bert's talent was manipulation.
the world may never know lol
Now that you mention it… That is plausible. However, “Burt’s talent was manipulation” is spot on.
Bert’s a scorpion, Eddie was a frog…
Paul Newman ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
He was my favorite actor
@@banjammy4116 mine too 😍👍

"Nobody pays you for yardage".....Yes they do. They sure do.
Scott's character said,"This isn't like football, nobody pays you for yardage. You wanna hustle its real simple...
Not in a pool hall
"The game ISN'T like football"
Jackie Gleason was great as Fats.
George's nose 👃 #important/significant 😊 you sign him to contract for nosy reason, in part #truthbetold 😅
He's right
George C. Scott is a far greater actor than Newman(no slouch himself)
2:34 Far greater? Let's just agree to disagree. George was passionate. Paul was more soulful
G.C.S. owns this scene. The pacing is incredible. So natural. Quick, then off. Very well done 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I completely agree. The rage and authority that Scott projected just with a glance, was something Newman was never capable of.
