Dear What's My Line? Thank you for these amazing uploads. I've been enjoying them for several weeks. I was born in the 1960s and grew up watching all of the celebrity guests in the movies, on Broadway and on TV. Such a treat and so generous of you and your time. I love the show's elegance and cordiality of a time past (back in my day we DRESSED to go to Broadway then dinner at Howard Johnson's) and appreciate how you replicate that here with how clearly you moderate. A pleasure to visit this channel.
The show relaxes me so! After a few minutes I forget the show is as old as I am. Frankly I wasn’t even born during its run, but it’s just great! I love the regular lineup; Killgalin, Gabel, Francis, and my all time favorite, Bennet Serf!!!
Mark Stewart No, I don't know the specific recording that was used here, sorry. I've always been a bit puzzled as to why they ever used "The Toy Trumpet", since 99% of the time they used the same closing theme, "Roller Coaster". There's just a handful of shows that use "The Toy Trumpet". Very odd.
I love that they mentioned Joanne's Oscar win here. She won the Oscar earlier that year I believe, Best Actress for The Three Faces of Eve. Paul was also already an Oscar nominee but his win wouldn't come nearly 30 years after this (1987, The Color of Money).
This is classic footage. I was 7 years old when The Sting came out and I knew who Paul Newman was by then as well as Robert Redford. I couldn't watch it in the movies because my parents wouldn't let me watch a PG rated movie lol! But it came on ABC Sunday Night Movie (remember that?) a couple of years later and I saw it. Even as a child I knew I was seeing some next level acting and screen presence. That card game scene with Robert Shaw is a masterpiece from both men. At some point I saw Butch Cassidy and was blown away there as well. But it's nice to go back and see these legends when they were really young. And see how classy and dignified people presented themselves. We could really use some of that now.
Yes we could. I'm no prude but I find the near naked twerking and 'tough guy' crotch grabbing rather boring and desperate. So much for the modern world. I really liked the class of the fifties.
Wow, how nice to see them again. They are all lovely people, a phrase not used anymore to describe people that seem genuinely nice people. It would be 'lovely' to see that again.
Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward could very well be the most attractive couple in the history of Hollywood. I can't name a better-looking couple. They make Brad and Angelina look like bums.
I don't think that Joanna W. was a particularly good looking woman. She was more plain, but she was very out-going and was able to snatch such a handsome man that way.
themurph2000 -- For one thing, neither Paul Newman nor Joanne Woodward displayed any tattoos. I always find Angelina Jolie to be rather offputting when she shows up on an awards show in a strapless dress so we can see the "ink" or her upper arm and possibly elsewhere. Me, if I were an actor or an actress, I wouldn't get a tattoo because it would quite possibly present problems when acting, at least in certain stages of undress. Then there are those male actors nowadays who, when they take off their shirts, show the world that once they got the first tattoo, they couldn't stop themselves from getting one after the other, again and again and again, the way Joan Rivers handled getting plastic surgery.

Wouldn't it be great if young people today started watching this kind of show and emulating the same sense of style, the same politeness and poise, and the same grammar, vocabulary and syntax (instead of punctuating with 'like, like, like'). @@gabbyg7315 Great commentary, Gabby. "Young people emulating the same sense of style, politeness and poise, proper grammar, vocabulary..." As The Beach Boys sang, "Wouldn't It Be Nice?" Yes, it would be wonderful.
There's a "glamour" shot of Ms. Woodward (in a white blouse) on Wikipedia, taken in 1971. Look it up: talent, warmth, humanitarian, and drop-dead gorgeous, to boot! Mr. Newman was one lucky guy.
I love these! I could have seen the original. Not sure if I could have understood it all, but I do remember growing up with it eventually. Yes, before it was established that there were two of them. I have seen that back and forth trickery on the show a number of times. One time Dorothy Kilgallen's children were on, a boy about 11 and a girl about 9, and someone asked "are you a boy" and the girl said no and then they asked " so you're a girl" and the boy said no!
I just noticed it in most of the episodes. I think it became Arlene's mannerism to touch that heart pendant in her neck whenever she asked questions. 💓 She's lovely. 💓

I suppose we got lucky in that time was tight for a fourth contestant combined with the popularity of the mystery guests, but it's been rare to have so much time at the end.
Gina Greenlee Thank you so much for the very thoughtful and kind comment, Gina. It means a lot. :)
People were nicer then.
Dressed to go to howard Johnson's?
Love these old shows Thanks!
One of the kindest posts of gratitude that I've seen. (And well deserved). I applaud Gina Greenlee.
I love both Paul Newman & Joanne Woodward. They are fabulously versatile actors. They were also wonderful philanthropists.
The show relaxes me so! After a few minutes I forget the show is as old as I am. Frankly I wasn’t even born during its run, but it’s just great! I love the regular lineup; Killgalin, Gabel, Francis, and my all time favorite, Bennet Serf!!!
Love that younger generations are finding and appreciate this show
@@m.e.d.7997 it's the BEST!!!
My god that man was gorgeous loved him from the age of 14 now 64 !
Hello Maggie
How are you doing today?
I love these uploads. Thank you!
Anderea Vaughan You're very welcome-- I'm glad you enjoy them!
+What's My Line? Any idea where I can find this version of Toy Trumpet?
Mark Stewart No, I don't know the specific recording that was used here, sorry. I've always been a bit puzzled as to why they ever used "The Toy Trumpet", since 99% of the time they used the same closing theme, "Roller Coaster". There's just a handful of shows that use "The Toy Trumpet". Very odd.
What a pleasure these are. One of the first TV shows I can remember. How lovely seeing people in tuxedos and white gloves for a game show!
Nobody was wearing a tux or white gloves. Would have looked ridiculous
Paul Newman is gorgeous
WOWWWWW This video take my breath away. thank`s a lot
Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward could very well be the most attractive couple in the history of Hollywood. I can't name a better-looking couple. They make Brad and Angelina look like bums.
Clark Gable and Carole Lombard.
Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford? I know they weren't married, but they were a pretty gorgeous couple in Gilda.
I don't think that Joanna W. was a particularly good looking woman. She was more plain, but she was very out-going and was able to snatch such a handsome man that way.
themurph2000 "Why should I go out for a hamburger when I got steak at home."
Paul Newman (in a slightly less politically correct time)
themurph2000 -- For one thing, neither Paul Newman nor Joanne Woodward displayed any tattoos.
Love this I was s little girl when this aired but I remember watching it with my mom and grandma great memories. Paul and JoAnne what a great couple.
Aaawww, they worshiped each other! Such a wonderful long life couple without any bad headline. They were both great artists too. 💚💛
Uh...he had an affair

I guess Lastname First is a bastion of perfection, eh, L F?
He is much better looking than she is, she is average.
I believe Paul and Joanne's daughter (the baby they are talking about) is Nell Newman who's running the Newman's Own company today.
Not for the past five years. I don't remember details, but it sounded like some messy business with whoever the CEO had become (not a family member).
@@mysterysurf4554 correct...the Newman Kids are being forced out of the picture...Joanne has Alzheimer's and what has happened to the business is basically a hostile takeover...this was NOT what Paul had intended...if the Charity Foundation he set up for his Hole in the Wall Camps ever gets corrupted I guarantee that will END Newman's Own company...Paul did so much good and greed is going to destroy it.
I'm so glad these clips are available for all of us to enjoy. This show was a little before my time (I'm 49) but I was old enough to be familiar with the era and all the old movie stars. I love Hollywood history, and the way things were. ❤
Hello Lisa

PAUL NEWMAN = GORGEOUS!!! ❤️❤️❤️
This was a most excellent show. Thanks for the upload!
Man!!! She was so lucky! Paul Newman was a true gentleman and so easy on the eyes!! ❤️
,They were both fortunate to find each other.
Thank you, this brings back memories. My grandmother watched this show when I visited her as a kid.
Love Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward
What a fun program from 1959! I enjoyed this “What’s My Line?” Episode and had never seen it before today, September 2021.
You have lots of fun to look forward to. 70 YO gal here
Wouldn't it be great if young people today started watching this kind of show and emulating the same sense of style, the same politeness and poise, and the same grammar, vocabulary and syntax (instead of punctuating with 'like, like, like'). I wore dresses like these (I even SEWED my own dresses like these) and politeness and proper grammar were insisted upon in our home.
These shows (which I watched in my youth) bring back wonderful memories.
@@gabbyg7315 Great commentary, Gabby. "Young people emulating the same sense of style, politeness and poise, proper grammar, vocabulary..." As The Beach Boys sang, "Wouldn't It Be Nice?" Yes, it would be wonderful.
@@miriambertram2448 Love Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward
There's a "glamour" shot of Ms. Woodward (in a white blouse) on Wikipedia, taken in 1971. Look it up: talent, warmth, humanitarian, and drop-dead gorgeous, to boot! Mr. Newman was one lucky guy.
I love these! I could have seen the original. Not sure if I could have understood it all, but I do remember growing up with it eventually. And then I looked them up, and they were married for >50 years! Today that's a miracle. Yes, they had previous relationships, but once you are together, and you can do that many years - wow! Loved this program.
Joanne Woodward... what a lovely lady!
What are a great opportunity to see such awesome celebrities ....thank you so much for sharing!
Boy, was Paul Newman a dream or what? I am really enjoying watching this show. It is helping me feel good.
"Why should I go out for a hamburger when I've got steak at home."
I do remember him saying that. What a love they had for each other.
He had steak at home, he had a first wife and 3 kids but he left them for Joanne.
He said Joanne got very mad at him for saying that.
I knew what he meant, so I thought it was sweet.
That was cute. He signed her name, and she signed his name.
@@Sunflower-cb1sk Really, how many times are you going to snark about that....lots of people get divorced, get over it.
Loved seeing them together. They were wonderful actors in their own rights, I loved all their movies what a treat to see them together on the show so cute and loving. 💜😍
Actors and Actresses with such class and not full of themselves..👏👏👏👏👏👏💕
Dorothy did ask the question "are you blonde?" but the person who responded NO was Paul Newman----who is definitely not blonde.
Yes! She did not say 'brunette'! She was gracious in letting it be that as the explanation.
Yes Dorothy did ask the question " are you blonde " and that was answered by Paul Newman, John Daly was wrong is saying that no you didn't ask that.
John Fuentes A trick to keep the guessing going.
Jan McIntyre The second time she asked brunette.
Classy show all the way around...a foreign time when stars were really amazing in appearance and the way they were more mature about things.

The panelists are brilliant .....
A beautiful couple who just happened to act, rather than actors who happened to be married. There for each other and devoted. I had that once, for a dozen years. Not fifty years like these two, but I know I was lucky to have had it at all.
