I've used bins for storing Christmas stuff for years and agree that is by far the best way to store everything. I also label the contents, but I do get fairly specific on some things. I also do the sticky notes on the bins for purchasing reminders, because I know I can't remember what I need a year later! I love the ornament storing boxes! I currently just use the packaging they came in, but like the fact you can store alot more in a smaller bin, thus taking up less space! Thanks Jen! :)
Wonderful video! Your organization is so inspiring! This year when I was putting our Christmas decorations away earlier in January. I was much more organized! I made labels & sticky notes on each bin. I was much better at putting away items that are in each room in different bins & so on. My family was amazed at how well I organized everything so it's easier next Christmas! Never to late to learn new ideas! Thank you Jen!
Wonderful video again Jen. I used our tips from last year when I packed up my decorations last week. Happy to report my bins looked similarly packed, to yours in this video. You are such an inspiration Jen. Please keep up the great videos. Much thanks!
Just stumbled upon your site while looking for interesting ways to store my holiday decoration. I love how you share so freely. Thanks so much for all the great info!
I love that I found your video before Christmas. We will be much more organized when we put everything away this year and I do need to set rid of some of the too big, too heavy, too hard to store bins, especially since DH and I are getting older. No basement, no attic, so sad. I imagine your house looks like the marvelous Home Alone house wihen all your Christmas is decor out. So warm and welcoming!
Your organization tips have inspired me to get organized. I get your anxious comment, I too feel that way when my craft room is a bit disorderly. I can not be productive in a plc that is chaotic.
I can't believe that I'm actually going to say this---I put away all of our decorations last week, but after watching your video, I am seriously considering bringing everything back upstairs and repacking it! What?? Yes, Jen, that's what you do to me! Ha, ha, ha! I've always been organized, but I still manage to learn a lot from you! Today, I learned that it is NOT necessary to keep certain decorations in their original boxes---that bubble wrap will work just fine! So much easier! :o)
I decluttered my decorations this year. Anything that was not used, I donated to our town's thrift store. I kept only those decorations that meant something to me. Now, I can add a few new things NEXT year.
Excellent video! I organize my decorations by color/type/room. Bins/boxes of gold-master/bath, silver-guest bath, pearl-guest room, & for the garland & "main tree" in the living room, I categorize bins/boxes by crystal, gold & silver ornaments; sticks/twigs; sprays/picks; berries; bows; faux (prop) presents & "trees" (I collect trees to set throughout the house). I wrap all the twigs/picks/berries etc. individually in tissue to prevent tangling & also crystal/delicate items to prevent breakage.
Thank you for the video. I store my things in similar storage. This year I have decided to dedicate a spot in one of my closets in the house for decorations, so I dont have to keep going up in the attic on a tiny ladder. I usually put away the decorations first and wait a few says for the tree. The decor on it is fragile and ut has to be taken down slowly abd wrapped up safely. Love some of your ideas!!
Yes, yes, yes! I packed all of mine away on Boxing Day but they're not exactly organised when all I did was dump them into tubs! Can't wait to organise everything!
Thanks Jen! As always your ideas were most helpful and inspiring. No worries about the lateness of this video. It's info that can be applied to many packing situations. I loved it.
Wow first view :) Love these videos Jen! You really inspire me to organize my entire life! Hope you are having a wonderful new year. Thanks for everything you do :)
I have one closet in my house for xmas decorations & when I packed it away this year I did each box for each room, and a box just for my mantle decor. It will be SO much easier next year when I pull the stuff out. I use chalk board labels & a chalk board pen to label the boxes- they are great you can wipe & off & change labels as needed. I got the labels on Etsy, but Staples sells them also.
Thanks jen! I love all your tips. I learned a lot about storage...I had no idea that there was a such thing as extra padding for china! It is nice too know that there are others out there who love organization just as much as I do!
Hey Jen, thanks for this video. Very useful. I had seen the Christmas cards behind you, but didn't really look at them until I read a comment about them. I then realized it was my own homemade card right behind you! Thanks for putting it up there! :)
Hi Jen, thank you for showing how you pack your decorations; your tecnique can be applied for many things (ie packing for a move etc) and it does make complete sense. Very nice and informative as always. Big hugs sweetie :)
Great vid! Nice to see that you use the Sterilite bins as well. I've been using mine for 25 years and they're still like new. I use the TUFF1 Storage containers as the snap-lock lids have a recessed surface for stable stacking and more air-tightness when I store things in less than perfect conditions. They're also a bit thicker and protect the contents.
This video is full of great ideas. You have inspired me to put away my decorations! Maybe next year I will find my special decorative ornament hooks BEFORE we start decorating the tree ;)
Cool okay, something I've been wondering for a while is if you put regular household items/decor in the Christmas bins while the Christmas decor is out, and now I see that you do :) Thanks for this video Jen!!
I'll be decluttering, getting rid of what I didn't use as I pack up what I did - looking forward to clearing it all up, but that won't happen until February. My mom's been away since the beginning of November so we'll have a Thanksgiving/birthday/Christmas celebration when she gets home. Some small things will come down but my tree will stay up along with some other mantle decor...
thank so much I just bought two big red bins and thought why did I get this its too big but the way you showed us how to store things I get how to pack my own stuff in there thanks a lot I never even thought to use paper and bags and all that extra stuff awesome,.
Love these videos so much! I started slacking organisation wise and watching your videos made me snap back into it. Will use some of these tips in future packing (:
Jen, you are amazing! I love your organizing and storage ideas. Thanks for sharing your life with us. I will be here waiting for your next video. Your friend Dorothy
We pack very similar but i am walking away with a couple i am going to try. Thanks. Was wondering if and how you store non seasonal/holiday items. I get bored easily and like to change up the decor around the house slightly thru the year. For ex. when spring comes i like to put out faux flowers in pots, bird statues, etc. i am in the middle of organizing my basement and am trying to make a system thats easy to exchange items in and out.
Your life/your choices!! Thanks so much for sharing so generously. Ignore the trolls and haters - children whose Mommies never taught them that if they can't say something nice not to say anything AT ALL. If somebody watching prefers a spare look, I encourage THEM to go for it - but to stop shoulding over those of us who do not. btw- I NEVER even think about taking anything down until after 12th Nite (Jan. 6th - Epiphany), because that is when I celebrate Christmas. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. xx, mgh (Madelyn Griffith-Haynie - ADDandSoMuchMORE dot com) ADD/EFD Coach Training Field founder; ADD Coaching co-founder "It takes a village to educate a world!"
Sometimes I put packing tape or any strong clear /invisible tape over them... And remember to clean the area where you will put the label with some cloth and dont use the fingers to clean. fingers have a little greace that doesn't help labels to stay on the place. Sorry to answerd in my bad english.
love the tips! I just have one question...where did you get your tea cup cabinate? Im looking for one just like it. Thanks so much for all your awesome videos. I love watching them. You are a real inspiration to all of us
Jen that is a lotta decos...........I am trying to wean my lot down and just keep my special things..........once you have kiddos you will need many more bins,,,,but it's fun
Your ornament bins are superb. I was going to make improvements to the Sterlite ones I have a la Martha Stewart by gluing plastic cups in each compartment to prevent ornaments from falling to the lower level. Did I? No. I do love your organization methods. They make logical sense! Now if I only had a basement! Can you order those online? =D
Anyone have trouble with the labels staying on the bins? I have a brother labelmaker and they just don't seem to want to stay on the Rubbermaid or Sterilite totes.
i have a tip for you jen you should do a small gift wrap shop after christmas especially for your stocking wrap becaus it goes half off and yoy can stock up without spdnding an arm and a leg not that yoy need to watch your pennies but why pay full price if you dont have to
rubbing alcohol or last resort.... something like a cd pouch but smaller (the kind that has an adhesive side for mounting on the bin or binder) then you could actually just use paper. my ptouch label tape comes off sometimes too. I resorted to a black permanent marker one year which I now regret. oh well.
Jen- If you ever do break a piece of your china this website still sells the pattern. It is an amazing place to find old discontinued patterns for replacement pieces. replacements (dot) com/webquote/L_HOFI.htm
I'm sorry but it's not hard to hit the button that says exit out of this video and stop watching. I think your 3 year old could figure out how to do that too. We like watching these videos and if you don't than please stop watching them.
You realize that you can exit out of the video if you didn't find the information useful, right? Some of us want to see just how she does it, if you don't need to see it, don't watch it. Its completely unnecessary to post a rude comment.
That is way too many decorations for Christmas and one house. I just don't like having so many things. That is not my taste it would feel too cluttered for me.
All those material things seem to be sooo important for you, almost like if your life gravitates around them. I mean, we all have our treasured belongings but you seem so atached to everything material.
You sure are organized alright. Amazing! It's inspiring! Very detailed too. Love your home!

Rubber Maids are great! I use an index card box with the number of the box and location. I write on the card, the general contents!
