Oh man, my space is 8x10ft and dedicated to making 3d collectible character sculptures. Every wall and surface needs to be functional. Aside from the Knick knacks and books that fuel me there isn’t much room for extra stuff. But I’m super privileged to be living this creative lifestyle with the rest of you!
What meaning _“set up”_ is? If I can smell neither urine, nor faeces, I’m good. Also, I think you’re conflating _“inspiration”_ with _“crippling substance abuse problem.”_
Omg! This guy is my new creative hero! His passion is off the charts! I love that he keeps his inspirational talismans. Please do a creativity inspiration podcast! Your energy is magic.
Before my Grandfather died he gave me 3 books from the 1950's, they're Commercail art manuals of the design trends for the 1930's, 40's and 50's. beautiful books, they give me a lot of ideas when I'm working on a new design.
Love everything about what he said and shared - one of my biggest inspirations! Thank you for giving us an inside peak into the space and the mindset. ❤😊
Awesome video and tour, thanks for sharing! We were fortunate to meet Aaron a few years ago and he is the nicest guys ever. Love his passion for creativity and design, his work shows it.
I love Aaron so much. His joy and love for design is exactly the spirit that I try to convey in what I create and in life! Oh, and I definitely need that Dinossaur Jr. poster. 😍
I absolutely adore him! He seems like such a great guy and fun to be around. And gives the best advice/tutorials. Even the Field Notes advertisement was on the longer side and super interesting. He is seriously the best! ❤
It’s like when I first saw his OG Skillshare video I was learning design and I took that and learned how to create concepts efficiently and now I can learn how to create my space and why that’s valuable. Draplin been there for so many of us in all our stages of being creatives. Great stuff
Just found a new person to be obsessed w/ lmao. This guys energy is infectious and the way he speaks about his space / archive shows how much he cares.
DUDE!!!! I luv your studio! You space is kick butt! I was without adequate dedicated studio space for years and FINALLY got studio space last year. It's literally 35-40' from my apartment. I adore being able to just run home (or to my studios) in less than 45 seconds. My "commute" is insanely easy. I don't have to drive to/from the studio, worry about traffic, parking, gas or getting there on time. I so luv all your "flat file" cabinets and how organized they [you] are! I did a triple take when you pulled the drawer of oil sticks or markers then smelled them as if you remove a pan of cookies from the oven. LMAO!!! Aaron you're art kool dude I would totally hang with. Congrats on your space!
That Vita Ferm hat! Sold one just like that on Ebay years ago when I picked up a several tubs of vintage farm/ranch hats...man, there was some fantastic lids in there! Thanks as always for inspiring and fueling passion.
This is the most amazing and inspiring studio ever. It feels like a place that was established generations ago and holds this energy of creativity in every inch of that place. I always personally feel the need to get rid of my pens, markers and supplies because I feel I don't respectfully use all of it often but, maybe I don't have too seeing this video.
This was really cool to see. I like that you surround yourself with things that YOU like and things that inspire you. I have a bunch of “junk” that makes me happy and serves as inspiration as well.
I've always found inspiration from Aaron Draplin and this is at just the right time for a workspace reorganization! It's time to get the toys off the desk and onto a shelf that's still close by.
Many moons ago, I caught onto Aaron and his approach to design and life. To say it completely changed my own life and execution as an artist / designer (whatever) is an understatement. I read his book till the spine wore out when it was released. I've gotten to meet him before and he is super cool and super genuine. Keep it going, Aaaron! Thanks for the inspiration.
DassDope! I'm a left-handed graphic designer living in the Bay Area I'm inspired by how neat and organized your office is unfortunately MINE IS NOT LIKE THAT😂🤣😭😭😭. Keep the good work keep being inspiring and I wish I had your vinyl collection.
The museum! I bought his book a decade ago. The snowflake Field Notes is my favorite. From Twin Cities. Wonder if they were printed here since they have a little sparkle going on.
This guy is as old as I am and the best thing he saw as a kid what the back of a Flaming Lips album? I am dumbfounded by that. There was so much cool stuff in the late 70s - mid 80s.
I am so so ssssooooo SO JEALOUS of all of your flat files! They are always beat up and or ridiculous $$$ for a used one in my home county of Sacramento. IKEA storage don’t cut it, all my screen print films and flatstock break those stupid little drawers. Thanks for the share, I really dug it. I also love having my workshop at home. Having an understandable life partner helps. My wife is hella cool with it and supportive. Garage fully converted into print shop. Living room art studio and extended printmaking.
I'm in awe of this dude and his work! And went to his website to order something and discovered his website is not secure (sad face). Can we get a medic over there to secure HTTPS and update your cert.. STAT!!
How do you keep your creative space set up? What inspires you?

I don't. It is a mess.

Been working on it all my life. It moves and evolves constantly. Then I watch this and want to do it all over again.
I like multiple little drawers and stacking.. but it feels like it(the room) gets messy quick anyway :'D
after a tour with Mr Draplin, you always end up wanting to dedicate the rest of your life to creativity and printing
THIS
This is the most excited I’ve been for a UA-cam video in a looooong time, and I waste a lot of time here.
It’s not wasting time if you’re learning sumthing! lol. Time well spent!😊
I've never heard of this guy before.. but I am now a huge fan and am blown away by his process.
Never heard of him, but you definitely have seen his work and just didn’t know!

Been following your works since 2017!
Everything about this feels on brand for DDC. Man that record collection - unreal.
Just the best!
The evolution of Apple Displays in each office iteration is amazing.
Hey @draplin, glad you cleaned that place up before they filmed!!
You are my inspiration!

You rock Aaron and thanks Skillshare for the video!

Love the space and vibes ! 💯
This guy is as old as I am and the best thing he saw as a kid what the back of a Flaming Lips album? I am dumbfounded by that. There was so much cool stuff in the late 70s - mid 80s.
He should make some flannel shirts. I could see orange and black plaid w/ his DDC logo patch on the chest. Work shirts would also be a great idea.
When are you doing a subscription box??? That would be awesome from you guys!
Such a dope studio. ❤
man, i love this hahah amazing
Great guy… an inspiration :)
Glad you think so! Thanks for watching 💚
