- Discord message requests fight DM scams and spam messages by separating direct messages from your friends from DM's from people you aren't friends with on Discord.
Due to the huge problem Discord has been having with DM scammers and spam messages, Discord has been working on a new feature called message requests. The new Discord message request feature is still in beta at the time of recording this video but should be released to the public soon.
This new Discord message request feature allows your friends to send you DM messages normally but sends messages from people you don't know into a separate message request tab. Then you can go through and determine if you want to reply to or delete the message requests. This drastically reduces the amount of Discord DM messages you'll receive on your normal sidebar but also helps separate legitimate messages from possible scams and spam messages. So in this video, I'll be showing you this new Discord message request feature, how it works, and how to check to see if you have it on your server and account.

There was also someone who did a suicide scam where they DMed me "pretended" to die, and then their "brother" who cares nothing about them says he is taking over the account. Sick 🤮

Aswsome video my friend the best thing to do is if you really wanna avoid those scam and spam messages all together is to turn off allow dirict messages from server members so only your discord friends can DM you
Yes, that is the best option if you don't need your DMs open.

Having an issue with mine, It shows I have a Direct Message in discord (blue discord symbol with a red 1 by it. But every time I click on it, it shows nothing. Nothing under "Friends" and Message request isnt there. Not sure if this is a glitch, or what is going on. :(

I just disabled DMs. I added a verification bot, self made. Works like a charm, with an extra added bot-trap channel for good measure.
And added a Support section for members using forum channels.
Nicely done! Whatever works best is the way to go!
How to turn of the "request" so i can see on my notifications that theres someone dmed me
I fell for a steam one. I fell for it because I was in the middle of exams and just didnt realise its fake of that. I immediately contacted Steam support luckily.
Yeah, you gotta be super careful anytime you receive a message from anyone you don't know. They have all kinds of scams running. Glad you got ahold of Steam support quick enough!
i got "here you can see my limiteds" didnt show any link and i didnt open the dm, i figured this may be a scam can someone let me know?

just got this update and ive immediately gotten two consecutive scam message requests right after opening discord
Did it help filter them out? If not, you may need to go through your friends list again.
Did they remove the feature or something? I can't find it anymore on the website or app and I no longer see the option in the settings to enable it on neither the account nor my server.

anyone know to disable message request. I want anyone to be able to send direct messages.
I show how to do this in the video. Just go to those settings I show in the video and turn it off.

You're going to have to set the permissions so that not just anyone can post. Also, make sure you use a bot of some kind that can moderate your server. I recommend checking out Dyno Bot or Mee6.

Does clicking "Ignore" blocks someone from messaging me forever?
No, it only removes the message request that was sent. If they message you again, it'll show up as another request.
How do I use this feature to send message requests to other people?
Just send them a message like regular. If you aren't friends with them, it'll be a message request to them.
i just gotten a scam for my steam the guy was saying im sorry for reporting you cause you bought my 870 dollar item and i didnt bought anything this month i knew it was a scam
Yeah, things like that will happen from time to time, but now it's easier to tell what's fake.

@@Dxrk_Reaper if you're using Discord on phone just Open it on chrome in desktop mode and then open discord and turn of security somthing on settings
Lol I got free nitro from a friend but was a bot sus of it but it was legit
I mean, friends can give each other Nitro. But unless you know for sure they really are sending you Nitro, you gotta be suspicious with how many scams are going on.
