The whole thing falls apart when you consider that if any corporate business thinks you're breaking TOS, they'll just suspend you with a "sorry not sorry" email. They won't ever make you plead your case unless you open up a support ticket after the fact.
This is so true. I had a youtube account (Never uploaded videos, nor shorts, nor comunnity posts and rarely leaved comments) and one day, I wake up just to find out that youtube "BELIEVES" I broke the TOS, so goodbye account until 2029. Just like that, cold turkey and no appeal posibility I can't even look in the homepage if I am logged with that email on a device
I remember the time I got a scam report on my steam account. I took the liberty to say that I do not own the account. After asking for things for a while, the conversation started derailing towards wanting to speak to the *real* owner of the account. They got very rude towards me since I was allegedly not the owner of the account, and the lines they used was funny. "I don't care about you man, Im here for the owner" and "Are you a teacher?" I forwarded them to my alt and continued to just stall with silly questions.
yeah like a month ago a friend of mine was hacked and I got that "accidentally reported you on steam" message. I learned how to navigate the web safely and recognize scams when I was 9 years old, ain't no way I'm falling for that. next time that happens I'll just reply with "skill issue" and block them
ah, same as me in a a way, one person sended me a photoshopped screenshot of my steam account and it contained my recent purcheses, there was a 5k purchase on a csgo knife(i was banned loooool). I ended up getting scammed cus idk how foolish i was and 2-3 days later steam sent me an email recovering my account and creating a 20 character password lmaooo
Yeah actual steam support is very good and direct. I once got my shit hijacked stupidly from a phishing site very early on in all that nonsense before it was common.. After it happens once your smarter typically. All they did too was try to Idle items on CSGO with an account full of games. lol anyway steam support with some proof gave it back to me after a day or 2.. The shitty par is they spam all your friends the the same links and luckily nobody else clicked them. Ive helped a few people after the situation because I knew what to do.. Steam legally asserts they don't do this but they will, I guess its to keep people from trying to use support to hijack.
I had one of these scammers too. He tried to get me to DM a specific person, but when I suggested to make a group chat with all 3 the dude was saying that it's not possible. Then I asked, "why doesn't he message me directly?" Again, same response. The scammer was saying a cheated him out of money on steam. ***Since when tf do you meet up to make transactions on steam marketplace?***
I was about to fall to that scam. Luckly I knew a specific youtuber who covers most of the common scam types. Totally worth it, thanks for the support! Keep doing your job that's helping tons of people!
You actually saved me from losing my account. This scam was happening to me and I looked up “Discord accidentally reported scam” and knew not to give them anything. Thank you very much
No offense but I just fell for one of these today aswell 😭 My family members were telling me not to and i ended up falling for it. My friend account was also comedized sadly and now I feel so stupid but lucky i got my account back. From now on ima gonna watch all the scam videos ._. so I'm not stupid to fall for these. That really scared the hell out of me fr
Fun fact: this scam and the Nigerian prince scam are actually known as the Spanish prisoner scam. It has been around since before the Industrial Revolution. Look it up on Google.
I almost fell for this scam TODAY, but I went to UA-cam to see if I was the only one who has had a problem like this, and low and behold, I found a video from you. You saved my account. Thank you for informing us of this scam; it not only helped me but others as well.
I had no idea this scam existed, i got the msg from someone who i had friended so im assuming they got hacked. Im glad I did my research before having a conversation with them. Tysm for explaining everything in detail because no one else explained it as well as you did
Someone did this to me and went in a vc to check my bank records so they could see that I wasn’t a terrorist, I just started screaming a bunch of random stuff till they blocked me lol
Just because you got scammed by these does not mean you're stupid. People like this like to manipulate people's kindness. It's never your fault for getting scammed
Unless they outright are called scam artist 69420, then it's like, literally in their name, that's like lesson 1, don't trust people with criminal literally plastered in their name. Identity stealer555 is probably going to steal your identity, go figure. The fact i can see this working on people is kinda a problem.
my friend got the steam scam and today i got it on discord from one of my friends, i block the mand reported them but i changed the passwords and such to be safe
Oh god yes. Ive got one too - went away pretty fast after I not so nicely told him Im very much aware what bs they try to pull - and IF Steam Support has beef with me, they kindly can contact me xD
@@Moon-wolf0806my friend had the steam scam work on them but they got into their account with a passkey and so they were able to use steam with the hacker still on their account. They only noticed once they saw random people on their block list. It was confirmed when I got the “hey can I talk to you” message.
Thats exactly what happend to my friend that got hes account scammed and that person took it over and exactly said that he feels sprry he reported me accidentely💀😭
I want to say Discord would go: "Wtf, there's no record of any purchases made with this account." and not continue with the ban... but knowing Discord I can't say that with 100% confidence.
i blocked the scammer, they ask you to change your email to the "discord domain" and if you do then they'll log you out lucky enough for me i didnt click anything@@Xsdrafim
The steam scam I sadly fell for because I was scared of losing my steam account. Which I did lose it because they stole it from me. I had hundreds of dollars worth of games, had to make a new steam account. Though I did learn my lesson, and I'm glad your shining more light onto these situations. Hope the scamming gets taken care of somehow! EDIT: I got the account back!! :D
@@Gargolda7200 My dad who's quite a genius figured out how to get it back for me before it was fully stolen, at the time I thought it was fully gone but now it's still in my hands safely.
A few years ago one of those guys got into my account, but I got it back. If you file a support ticket on steam's official website, they will verify you are the real owner by asking you what card you used to buy games on the account.
My best friend got one of those "I reported your Steam accout" messages once and he decided to troll and waste their time. He was instructed to message a different person and so he took his second account to make it look like the account he was supposed to contact and messaged "oh yeah everything is resolved" from there and sent a screenshot of that conversation to the scammer lol
Server bans where/are IP bans. A Friend banned me from his Server and I could not join the Server with my alt. Or new Accounts created in a different Browser, so no cookies or fingerprinting. After he unbanned I could join with all Accounts.
I’ve fallen to a discord report scam and my account was lost, I saw this video just now, but now I know, I have always been very aware of scams but the discord one is probably the most believable one for me as I don’t know how discord contacts people, WATCH OUT FOR THESE ONES PEOPLE!
This is also a good time to comment that this scam has since improved, with the grammar being proper (for rthe most part) and the spelling is correct. The hacked accounts are no longer using the threat of “IP banning” (which doesn’t exist on Discord). In previous incarnations the scam had poor grammar, poor spelling, and threaten to IP Ban the target. One of the artists I commissioned had their account hacked today.
working for discord AND valve at the same time must be super hectic. imagine getting thousands of user reports from discord and millions of "please help, my TF2 chat doesnt work but i spent enough money" reports every day
I got one of these messages while I was in Hawaii, I screwed around with the scammer for a solid hour and a half while i was flying between Hilo and Honolulu. Took everything to not laugh my ass off on that plane
I actually had one of these scams a couple days ago while I wasn't sober. Luckily I had enough critical thinking skills to realize why am I messaging steam customer support on discord and then blocked the guy.
Omg, I almost got scammed like this the same way, luckily I didn’t fall for it since it seemed already to fishy when the person said they supposedly confused me with someone else that they were trying to report instead. It’s literally so super rare to confused people’s usernames in discord..
Holy shit! Thank you for this video. It helped me when I thought I lost everything. I legit bawled my eyes out and pulled out hair. Until I found your video and I went through the support with the help of some friends. So thank you once again
@@Hells_Avalanche yup! I sent it around 7am CST and got it back only a few hours later. Honestly I thought I was able to get into it because I had my phone number linked, but it was Discord's doing and I appreciate how fast they took action.
@@iconsumelead damn I wish mine was going that well I made a ticket the night that it happened which was around Friday night, they got back to me a couple days later saying they're going to escalate my ticket so the team can look into it further, And that was 3 days ago now and I haven't heard anything back yet
@@Hells_Avalanche also I suggest you give the email and username of the person who hacked. That's what I did, only as a precaution. In case they needed that to help locate and find my account.
@@iconsumelead Damn, wish my case was going that well. I made a support ticket on the night it happened, Friday night, took them a about a day to reply, in which they said they'll escalate my ticket and get back to me, and this was 3 days ago now, and if they ask for any additional info, I can give it, if you have any other suggestions, lemme know
I dealt with this today on my discord. In my defense, I was tired after a job interview and a terrible night for not recognizing this shit right away. But when he asked to change my account's eMail, I got suspicious and looked him up. I blocked and reported right away after finding a reddit entry about this whole scheme. Warned my pals about it as well, just in case they were friends with that same account that approached me. I don't really use steam, so this was the first time for me that I saw this scheme.
Thank you so much, no text to speech! I almost fell for one of these. I was a kind of skeptical of what was going on, so i searched and found this video confirming my suspicion. Its a bit different then it is in this video, but the beginning and messaging someone is the same.
@@TheDarkCeratosaurus Same i was literally crying because i thought my discord account would be banned.. then i realized.. why has someone i havent spoken to in 2 years saying this..?
Someone who was in a server I’m in messaged me about it, we weren’t close although the discord is still sometimes active for short periods of time, fortunately I found the video and didn’t make it past the I understand part
Someone i know irl actually fell for this type of scam earlier this week. I'm honestly sort of baffled that some people genuinely do fall for this. Its not like they're a kid either, they a full grown IT major ;;
Emotions are very irrational thing and scammers take advantage of it. Also, if someone’s less than sober, makes it easier for them to fall for those things. So please TF don’t judge.
You're a deadass lifesaver. As I was about to get hacked, my friend sent me this video right as I was gonna tell him my credidentials. (discord ticket, date of birth, etc etc)
My gf nearly fell for this scam on steam a while back. It took me a while trying to explain that it was probably a scam because no report system would work like that, before I gave up and googled it, reading out a script that almost perfectly mirrored what the guy was telling her. Anyhow, point being she is very trusting, and is most familiar with the 'he said, she said' model of moderation. So I wonder if a part of why people fall for this is just that they're of that same era, where half a dozen mods could run the largest forums on such a basis.
Interesting thought. I think back to games like Runescape where the player mods and even the official Jagex mods were just normal people walking around in-game and talking in chat. You’re probably on to something - familiarity with that style of moderation could lead someone that isn’t very computer-savvy with the modern era of support to believe that someone might just PM you with official business. I’ve never considered that before, very interesting thought!
oh my god thank you lol, i almost fell for it because i used to be a mod for a game server where people would often get scammed by losers and so i really thought they accidentally reported me for scamming instead of someone else. thank you!!
This very much is exactly like Steam Support Scam (minus Steam of course). It's funny that I would get messages like that every now and then and proceed to call them out time and time again before they block me (then I report them). Most likely because I have items on TF2 that I guess people really wanted. Never ceases to amaze me.
so glad you made this video. as soon i saw the guy wanted me to change my email, i was suspicious. Looked the guy up saw the real linkdin and then saw this video. blocked him and my friend's account removed me
18 hours of talking to this scammer and they finally gave up. Some of them these days will not stop 'till they get your money or steal your account. Some highlights from this *fun* activity was from the scammer: "Ma'am are you on something?" and "Just change the god damn email already or your account will be deleted" in which I responded: "Nah I'm good, I think I need a new account anyway" so they said "Fk off" and blocked me. Around an hour after this came out, my friend said: "Hey Bro, Watch this NTTS video" and that led me to this video, less than 4 hours later another friend messages me with this same scam. I said to them: "Why should I contact discord support?" then they responded: "Youll get ur account daledted if u don't", I then went to correct them and say: "I'm all good bro, this account is getting pretty old anyways". Great vid bro!!! I emailed the email some weird stuff and reported them! Cya!
I fell for this yesterday. This is partially my fault because i thought this was real and not some sort of fake account. When me and my friends did research we realized that this was a scammer. Thank god for business and retail classes
I fell for this today, but I got all the info of the guy, multiple screenshots and username evidence to prove my case and hopefully get my account email put back into the email of my account, and get my account back by getting the guy who compromised my account locked out.
I did fall for this, luckily I gained common sense when they asked for $100, shockingly enough they said sorry when I told them they were a scam and was willing to give me the account if I gave them the money (I still don't think they're sorry, though) instead of a corporate manager or something though it was a person pretending to be a bot. I reported this to discord asking for my email to be reverted, still haven't gotten an answer.
@@Gargolda7200did you get an answer yet? I just fell for this I’ve been travelling for hours and couldn’t think straight 😭 I just want my account deleted so they can’t look at my messages
Thanks for posting this! A friend of mine got their account hacked and their account tried this scam on me. I clicked the e-mail message and immediately noticed the word salad...which was EXACTLY how this "friend" was talking to me and I said "This e-mail is fake. The grammar is terrible. No company would write this way." and blocked them. I was then a smidge worried that just opening the image in my browser might have given me malware so I Googled for more info about the scam and found this! PHEW! Thank goodness. I completely missed the "add Mike as a friend" part. That and I missed them when they first sent me the scam and they got back to me the next day so the "YOU ONLY HAVE 24 HOURS!!!" thing also tipped me off because it has been more than 24 hours. Anyway, thanks for the info on the latest scams. EDIT: Oh and why do people fall for these scams? Add "English is not their first language" to the list. I DO have one actual friend who kinda talks like these scammers, which made me believe the scammer's word salad but NOT the E-Mail's word salad.
I fell for the Steam Report scam and was able to get the account back through contacting the ACTUAL support team. It is possible to recover from these scams, but it is annoying. (Also, I had to dm a lot of friends to clarify that I had not, in fact, reported them and that I was hacked.)
@@zatannavolkoff Yeah it texted some of my Steam friends the same thing it texted me. While I didn't have access, I contacted Steam Support to get it back while I told my Steam friends on Discord to not trust what I say on Steam until I have my account back.

The most unlogical thing is that i have to prove my inoccense in this. The Reporter has to proove that you committed something since they would be TOO lazy to do that
I recently fell for this scam. Swindled $700 out of me and I feel guilty that I didn't catch the signs. Now I probably won't be able to get my mom anything for Christmas...

@@TT-fy6hkscreenshots can be easily faked. + There was this whole thing with reports being denied when the user couldn't give the discord staff a message link and it also being denied when the message is deleted.
@@GGGamesXDlol Yes and no, unless he publicly states he is using it nothing will happen. He can however, copy the message link and report it even when the message was deleted since all voice messages, voice calls and chats are logged on the discord system for official Discord staff team that can pretty much read the whole conversation.
I saw some idiot fall for this on my server. Worst part is... the scammer didn't just use their account to scam other, they didn't just buy nitro with the account. The scammer full on blackmailed this user into giving a TON of money on paypal (friends and family) in exchange for giving the account. They, obviously, did not give the account back.
Me too. I lost my account in 2020 because I didn't give them ID, so I panicked. I also just woke up after staying up until 3 AM, so I wasn't being rational.
In December 2022, I was approached by that scam and almost lost my account. Thankfully some red flags caught my attention and I backed off and blocked the guy. But that was one of the scariest days of my life.
GODDD this brings back PTSD from march this year, when i was scammed like this i was able to get my account back, but not my money. stay safe out there and never ever give out your card details to strangers no matter how trustworthy they say they are
I always secretly hope that they one day reach out to me so I can waste their time. They're always so horribly gramatically incorrect that it's entertaining. I still have this line saved from back when the Steam scams were popping off: "keep in mind that the you're the recent steam user that I have received in my coordinator review panel about illegal activity for illegal purchasing and scam attempts."
This literally just happened to me lmao I thought it was sus from the get go but since I was just about to get to bed but the fact they wanted me to change my email address was the point where I looked it up and found out it was a scam Really dodged a bullet there
nah cuz i almost fell for it too but when they asked for my card i told them a rando bank and kept replying w/ "hold on" since I remembered I had stupidly gave my email to them 💀 but i still have my account since i changed the email and deleted the one i had told them
trolling the scammer idea: play along as if you know nothing and are blissfully unaware and as soon as they think they got you just reputedly spam "space jam dvd" over and over again
This just happened to me today! I was lucky that I started to suspect the moment they asked for my birthday and country. I gave them fake data, and then they kept going with asking me to change my email. I replied sending them this video and they blocked me. Not before I managed to preach about Jesus (just to mess with them) XD Thank you very much for preventing this malicious things to happen to more people! 🙏
I literally came from being almost scammed by the "same" person, I gave him the money, but due to errors, the payment could not be made thanks to an option that I was missing, "friends and family", only for that reason he did not take the money. Pls be careful on discord.
Almost fell for this today until I saw this after searching for discord scams thank you so much I cannot thank you enough for this. If I had not have seen this video I would’ve lost my account today so thank you.
I actually fell for a Steam version of this. I managed to recover my account due to quick thinking and immediate response to the situation, but didn't realise it was a scam until too late.
I almost fell for this steam scam 3 months ago. The red flags in the convo were that I sold a $1500 CS-GO skin on Steam Market place. If I had that sorta money I wouldn't even be playing CS-GO in the first place. 😂
Thanks for this to the new discord users! When I was new to discord, I actually fell for this. I happened to get all the way to the part where this fake Kevin Hanaford asked me for 500 dollars for helping my account be given back. Luckily, I finally asked someone that I know what to do. And I was able to save my account. So yeah. I guess I am a "Skibidi toilet kid." I'm not that youuunnnggg!!! Keep yourself safe on discord! :,)
I fell for that scam yesterday, the hackers actually try to make your “friend’s” message look like something they would say. Like they full on would study the way said person would type. I feel stupid for falling for it but they’re getting way smarter.
"how do people fall for this? cuz they're [throws insults]" bucko, this mentality is toxic. people fall for this for a variety of reasons. sometimes it's just plain stup!dity but try telling that to someone horribly depressed because they've gone through the worst situation in their entire life and it's just dragging on and on by others outside their control and discord is the primary way they keep in touch trying to stay sane with their friends during a global [incident] where most hangouts are online and see if they actually want to wake up the next day.

I mean if Discord was more clear regarding account issues by having a single location (separate from DM's) and never used DM or email to contact you about this (and made this clear), these scams would be a lot more obvious.

There’s a very low chance that discord support will actually help you. My friend got hacked (he’s stupid) and discord gave him the run around for like a month before deleting his account
Late, but a buddy of mine got hacked also. Once his account got hacked, it sent invite links to "leaked tik toks" with the server picture of an ass cheek. Quickly i realized something was up and called him lol
I receive alot of this steam scam messages and I don’t remove my steam - discord connection on purpose because I actually enjoy messing with these scammers. Once I played a scared girl, the other time i Rick rolled them and another time I made them click on a short url with an ip grabber behind it. I always check beforehand from which server they found my account and then report them to the server mods, which are always thankful for that. It’s funny tho, because it’s literally always the same bs they are trying 🤭
I fell for this scam about 3 days ago, and I unfortunately realized it too late. But, there was one thing I just noticed about the request number at 0:48 and the one I managed to save a picture of before I lost my account to the scammer: it’s the same number! The only thing that is different is the wording (which in my case is supposedly sending phishing links).
Tbh, we had to be careful, because that line "I accidentally reported you" is a lie to make it realistic enough to make it gullible easily. The only way to prevent this would happen is to ignore that Hacker's Message and report to the owner quickly.
I just fell for this, I feel so dumb. I found this video after it happened. I got scared, now my account of four years is gone. It was a bit different than this but the same general idea. I feel awful and I know I can't get it back, it's so frustrating.
me too :( I've had my account for 4 years too--and I fell for this. I sent a report to the discord help desk and I hope they can recover my account for me. Let me know if you get it back.
Someone I knew got hacked and sent me one of these messages. Im so glad I saw this video or I would’ve fallen for it! Stay safe and away from scams everyone
Had this happen to me a few months ago, only they insisted they reported my nonexistent Steam account XD Then said I had to add some Steam mods on Discord, and were not able to say why , since A. I have to do it since they could just file another report or reach out to the support team they were already talking to B. How the person being reported is a lot less trustworthy in this scenario than the person who originally reported them.
The reason why most of them use code blocks is so that when you report the message it will not be the same as reporting a nomal one. So most of the cases the discord staff will assume it's nothing too bizare so they (most of the time) will do nothing about it. For example you can see when Mike sent the first message, and then when he sent the second one (which was the scam part) he wrote it in codeblocks.
I fell for this scam just hours ago. It's easy to laugh and look back in hindsight and say 'Ha ha, you idiot', but... honestly, this is the first time I've experienced anything like this and now I feel angry.

@@materialgirl6194 I did get it back! If you filed the report correctly you should get it back within a week. I wish you luck
@@materialgirl6194did you get it back?
@@kaifeedlehow to file the report for this pls I have nitro on the account and can’t get it back 😢
@@materialgirl6194 I did get it back! File a report and discord should let you reset your email, hope it works!
I actually feel sorry for the real Mike Bang
Someone I knew got hacked and sent me one of these messages. Im so glad I saw this video or I would’ve fallen for it! Stay safe and away from scams everyone
my dumb ahh saw the red flags but ignored them and then saw it was a scam when they started asking for bank account information
Had this happen to me a few months ago, only they insisted they reported my nonexistent Steam account XD Then said I had to add some Steam mods on Discord, and were not able to say why , since
A. I have to do it since they could just file another report or reach out to the support team they were already talking to
This makes no sense

I'm not sure where you got this from but it should just appear either formatted or in raw text so: `text`.
these scams are so scummy, im so lucky to have not faced any of em

@@OsDijider66im pretty sure theyre talking about discord scams in general

@@qhu3878do you know a few ones?? Im actually at 5:07
@@NotJoelButBetter i know what the exact scam is based on the first few seconds already. seen many people face it, it's that simple
I fell for this scam just hours ago. It's easy to laugh and look back in hindsight and say 'Ha ha, you idiot', but... honestly, this is the first time I've experienced anything like this and now I feel angry. I don't know how many of my friends have been targeted by this scam and how may people I've annoyed with this.
Its crazy this scam is still going around, this happend to me pretty recently, i don't how they still continue to do this despite all the coverage this scam already has
