Love your video. Have you heard of The B.L.AC.K. Girl™line of books from Author: Ask Lioness. If I may suggest an exceptional find, it would be 'A Tribute to the B.L.A.C.K. Girl. The entire line is available on Amazon. Thank me later...
Stories about everyone is important. Focusing only on black girls is racist and only replaces a Eurocentric point of view with a Afrocentric point of view (at the exclusion of others). America is for citizens of many ethnic backgrounds. America is a Westernized multi-ethnic country with a Westernized multi-ethnic culture always has been always will be. Thanks 🙏👍🇺🇸✝️✡️❤️
What would you say if a young white girl held a book drive for books that tell stories about white girls? You would say she is a racist but a black child is honored for being racist.
Many thanks, I've been looking for "how to teach a teenager to read and write" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Eanmanter Straightforward Equalizer - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is an awesome one of a kind product for discovering how to teach your child to read minus the hard work. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my neighbour got excellent results with it.
3 seconds in , and I am turning this off. One of the purposes of reading is not to just read about characters that look like you. One of the purposes of reading is to learn and expand your mind about people who AREN'T like you! How sick to see this racism taught to an innocent child.
Yesica1993 But one of the best things about reading is finding characters you can relate to. But these days there's a lack of representation in most children/teen books.
I read a great piece about this concept. They described books as mirrors (books about people like me) and windows (books about other people - their culture, lives, issues). "With access to mirror texts, students are able to see that their narrative matters, and with access to window texts, students learn to understand and appreciate the narratives of others." www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/readerleader/windows-and-mirrors-why-we-need-diverse-books
@ Phanic! at the Black Parade Why would anyone relate to someone else just because they have the same skin tone? Ridiculous! I am pale skinned and Puerto Rican. Neither as a child nor as an adult did it EVER enter my mind to whine about no PRs in books. Why? Because I am not a racist.
Yesica1993 you really should have watched the video then. As the girl states she’s tired of reading books about white boys and dogs. Because that’s the majority of what makes up of schools curriculum. We need more diverse books so that yes people of color can find a book they can relate to but also show others diversity. I don’t care if this little girl was collecting books about space aliens shaped like ducks this is amazing! This little girl wanted to bring books to others who didn’t have any. If you can’t see the beauty in that then I feel sorry for you. What a closed little life you must have
You're kidding right? Majority of the books ever read and available are about characters who don't look like her. Even if she wanted to read books about characters who look like her, it would probably be incredibly hard and would have a great lack of options available. Representation is soo important. This isn't racism. This is great and I fully support and hope she continues.
heartbreak kid101 Because there is nothing to prevent any race from writing books, and it's not the fault of a particular race if another race did not write books, so when she said that white characters in the books makes her sick, that is racist. But there is no fault in the rest of the things, and she did a wonderful job.
But that doesn't make is racist though, she just said the word "white" and you said that was racist, she's not discriminating it stereotyping anyone so your point is invalid. And apparently they do, look at all the books she found, so you can't say they don't when obviously they do. Point invalid 💅
Bless her . Black children to see other children who look like them 👍

D Smith skin color is not important why does it have to be about skin color?
D Smith not all black children look the same
I love books about black girls. I'm a poet/memoirist/blogger and children's lit course student.
Amazing to see an 11-year-old kid creating characters and a plot!
Brown girl dreaming is my favorite book to!
Bailey Ryan too*
Having them all black is not diverse
That's not the point. They're saying not having any black books is NOT diverse, so they're trying to find more black books to make it diverse
@@koublossom8320 what is a black book, a book with at least one black character or a black lead

Whenever I write, I like to make my characters diverse, and more times than not, the protagonist is a person of color.
Apparently skin color is soo important

Black girls are so cool 💐💐
hi
Good for her! I’m so happy there are more books for children of color. My kids favorite right now is I Have Good Hair by Marietta Iyinbor

you don't think it might be harder to convince publishers to take on stories about black children? You need to get real
