    I've been rebuilding beatup and war out saw for 20 years. But I enjoy a young buck taking beyond spec. Well done young man. I enjoy watching what you do. And I didnt miss spell war out. The saws i work on have been to war.

      Thank you,
      I have seen a few, revived some and lost some saws that have been exactly where you are talking about. Sometimes you just have to scratch your head as to what actually happened to the poor saw.

    Great video man, the boogers on the inside of that stock cylinder we’re pretty disheartening, a video of just removing the casting imperfections without porting as a comparison to completely stock would be interesting! Or maybe just clean up the transfers and run it on the dyno, or just intake or exhaust to see where the biggest gains are seen

    I was taken aback by the first Stihl 461 cylinder I looked at, definitely not like the Mahle cylinders on my older Stihls. I am curious as this relates to some of my 461 and 066/660 builds, have you done a dyno run with and without the baffle cut out of the muffler on the 461 with the port timing you did on this saw?

    Three reasons I back away from Stihl saws: 1 everyone around here feels like if you’re not running a Stihl you don’t have a saw!!
    #2 the the Stihl model numbers have no apparent rime or reason!!
    #3 they are notorious for being hard starting Clunkers!!
    I believe they are good saws but when you look at what a lot of commercial woodsman are using you notice pretty quick that Stihl saws are not the only saw made!!

      @@dynojoemods2764 My rings were a bit brittle, on a very low hour NIB MS461. I'd be hesitant to use ceramic, although I understand they are engineered well.
      Recentlt I realized I had run about 4 tanks of unmixed 100rn ethenol free gas through it though. I was reusing the 50/1 perfomance fuel tank and forgot to re-mix it with oil. Although I didn't find scoring, maybe the rings had started to heat up and were becoming brittle. Dunno.
      Never had a saw down to the jug and rings before, so maybe I didnt finesse it light enough. Been around engines my whole life though.. and was being gentle.
      Just a data point.

    When you machine a cylinder does it change the amount of grinding needed to achieve same numbers (when possible)?

    • @dynojoemods2764
      @dynojoemods2764  2 роки тому +6

      Sometimes it helps get the ports where needed. Other times it is mostly for the compression bump.

    • @alessandromonizza8283

      Lowering the cylinder also changes the number differently on each port because of the different position on the revolution. Doing some geometry i found out that it could increase the blowdown a bit

    Hey guys im trying to buy a chainsaw for milling wood on a mill. As the jump between chainsaw and bandsaw mill is ginormous. after research I'm finding that the cost for a top of the line chainsaw is around 1500 where a cheep bandsaw mill goes for minimum 3000 grand as a kid I have no money or experience. would it be worth it to buy used chainsaws to fix or am I wasting my time and should I just be looking into bandsaw mills?
