Hello Tinman. Well, today I went for it, heated the cases up to 325 and more and still had to pound out the old bearings, no luck installing them either, had to pound them both into place with the cases heated to 350 and the bearings in the freezer before install. On the video when you do it it looks so easy. I pray I have not damaged the bearings and that I have them properly placed in the case, now for the install of the crank. Wish my luck. Paul
Love your video on disassembly of the bottom end. I have the case splitter now and have split the case on a MS362C and am going to install new crank and bearings. I have watched this video of yours many times. I hope you do a vid on complete assembly of a large Stihl saw soon as I did not take this aw apart, I received two of them in boxes, condemned. Thanks again for all your help.
I have watched allot of build video's and yours was the best I have seen. Simple and well explained. I thought I had to buy a ton of tooling to do what you just did in 24+ minutes. Thank You very much. I like my Stihl saws but OEM part are hard to get and they are expensive. I always try an aftermarket part first. I don't think I would do that with a crank but bearings yes. Great Job!!!
Well shucks, thanks for the kind words. I did trim the video a bit, probably 45 mins total to do that bottom end. I do have some fancy tools but honestly I before I got serious about saws I did the work without specialty tools and although it may have taken me longer then the overall results were the same. Thanks for watching!!
Best video I’ve seen on the takedown and rebuild. I did my first 046 a few days ago, and things didn’t go as well is I wanted. I purchased a new crankcase that came with the clutch side bearing installed from factory. When I knocked the crank in and pulled the block together I noticed the clutch side bearing had slid out slightly. I tapped the bearing back into place and proceeded. Not what I wanted to see! I tapped the bearing back down so the oil pump would go on. I’m still unsure exactly how to set the depth of that bearing. The pump does go on and touches slightly or almost touches the bearing. Can’t see it for sure, but crank was free when I put it all together. Still like to know why this happened! Thanks for a very well made video. I could tell by the way you were talking you knew what you were doing. Thanks you! Thump88
I really enjoy your videos, thanks for going into a lot of detail. Getting ready to split the cases on 044 gasket failed, thanks again from north carolina , God Bless
I really like your videos and your channel. I like building motors and I am accumulating some knowledge by watching. I have a 575 xp that I’ve been told is going to let loose for 10 years. It still runs great, but I’ll be ready if it ever goes.
I am a stihl mechanic I am working on the same saw but it is for concrete and the bearing on the clutch side did the same thing and took out the piston and cylinder
Do you not grease the crank bearings at all? Would they not last longer with grease like a wheel bearing? Thanks for the video it's very helpful. I am doing this on a 441 and it is my first saw.
I put together my first ms260 and boogered up the seals, put together my 372 and boogered up the seals. Going to put together my second ms260, hope I don't booger up the seals. It happens.
Great video, ol harv sent me here great content, great job, I hff ave a serious question if you have time, I just completely rebuilt a 029super to a ms390, the rear handlebar antivibe bolt..I think the bushing or rubber crappdd out as I was screwing it in...brand new tank and went through INTO THE FUEL TANK, please tell me you have a magic/favorite epoxy that I could go inside there and seal it back up, if not soldering iron weld the screw hole protruding into my tank back up, if I have to buy a whole new tank I'm gonna totally loose my butt on this job and I really need this saw, need to ask harvey and Kinsey too I guess but any input would be great Thanks Travis
Tinman , I’ve put my 460 case back together just like the video . My crank was tight and I tapped it quite a bit . It centered some but doesn’t free wheel super smooth. It spins , I’m not sure the feel of what it should be . Any advise . My luck I’ll keep taping and break something
Try using your case splitter to move the crank to the center. Then tap it a bit it should free up. If that doesn't work apply heat to the cases again and the tap it.
Do you work on people’s saws I’ve got a Sthill 440 magnum in parts think it needs a crank. Had a new cylinder and piston that didn’t work. Hope you can work on mine and big bore and port it. Thanks 🙏
I’m in no hurry it’s been sitting for 2 years in a box basket case just wanted to se if you.were interested in a build any time is ok I’ve got other saws. Thanks again love the work you do. Or I’ll send you the 440 and trade you it and cash for this saw
I didn’t see the oil hose go back in. Did you do it off camera or did you have one of those facepalm moments when you realize you’ve gotta redo what you just did?

So many tips and advice. I ordered the case splitter you have and plan to use it Saturday. Thanks for all of your help.

I set the oil pump on the case then use that to set the depth of the bearing. I find thats the best way.

That should make a nice hot rod! It sure cleaned up nice! Very informative!👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Good job, pretty much what the Stihl class I took showed.
Really enjoy your channel, keep up the great work. Very informative.
That old bluepoint is a great little impact
I bought that new lol. Time flys eh??
@@tinmanssaws yeah man. I bet I’ve had mine almost 20 years now.
@@ktrudeau340 mines 20 plis years old to.
nice video keep up the good work i like to load up the two stroke oil too.

Master, is it possible to pour 33: 1 husqvarna ls + to drink 372xp 357xp and scythe 545rx? Will not jam the piston rings with carbon?

you are whacking the crankshaft inwards instead of the inner bearing ring ?
explain to me ...
Awesome stuff
Would you heat a magnesium cased block to seat the bearings also?
12:00 do you put sealant on only one side of case gasket? Or No sealant on either side? Thanks
Don't be bashful about messing up, that's how we learn. 🤔🤯🧠👍
Oh i mess up all the time lol
@@tinmanssaws That's why you know what you do. Wen we make a mistake it's a chance to learn from it.

Hi at this point I'm doing porting for a few people as I dont have the time to do this full time.

this guy is awesome
Just wondering why you didn't use another steel cage berring on the flywheel side?
Flywheel side is a proprietary stihl bearing so I went oem on that one.
Great video thanks
You stripped out the main bearing shields/seals so what lubricates them in a running saw?
The two stroke oil in the mix
Good Video!!!!!!!!!!!
How much did it cost for the kit for the 461?
I didn’t see the oil hose go back in.
Did you do it off camera or did you have one of those facepalm moments when you realize you’ve gotta redo what you just did?
You can do it after , no big deal to swap
Tinman have you tried putting the bearings in your freezer?
Yep ive done that to.
I just don't often have time to wait so i heat the cases
@@tinmanssaws If you put the bearings in the freezer the day before you don't have to wait. They will just drop in.
Good. Video
Would that case splitter work on a small saw like a 031 ?
Yes
