A small community that all buy McLaren, Apologizing was the right thing to do, If McLaren didn’t want any press on this particular car they should kept it at the manufacture?!? Bandaid solution lol, Robert excellent video and I’m sure Brook appreciates you as a friend. Best regards
its about time companies start accepting that the shift to many "small guys" is in full swing and move with the times. you said it yourself, you made a list of people who bought cars based on your recommendation. even influencing 1 sale a is a lot when the car new is deep in 6 digits.
Mclaren has a questionable PR department I admit. They don't try their best, or can't keep up, but they have a take-it-or-leave-it Ferrari attitude to their customer.
Sport Auto doesn't seem to push cars to their full potential. They also lapped the GR Yaris 8min14sec plus change when Captain Gaskrank lapped one at 7min59 clus change. A huge discrepancy
Since Zak Brown has been at the top there has been a major push on UA-cam with F1, namely the Unboxed series that other teams have now adopted. I still find it a little worrying that despite this, this whole thing sort of contradicts the value it seemed like they placed on YT content, showing a disconnect within the McLaren management. I do hope it's drawn attention to it and will be sorted out
actually, Brooks said in his elvagate video that the he discussed doing a video on the Elva with that VP of Marketing, and the VP was open to it. So McLaren WAS ok with him doing a video and still is if they are getting him another one.... just no performance numbers if it's a pre production car.
I bought my car because of Brooks, you and other youtuber’s. If any McLaren rep, front reception to dealership owner or any factory admin spoke to me in a way that the VP spoke to Brooks - I would have never bought a Mclaren.
Professional approach from McLaren, all be it to something that shouldn't have occurred in the first place - but all of us have some challenging days in our work environment.
Costumer service in the U.K. is still having a major impact on the brand, cars do go wrong, it’s how you are dealt with personally when things do go wrong. Mclaren chain of command and the number of people needed to sort and resolve issues makes the whole process very long winded and somewhat tiresome. On my 3rd McLaren but not sure I will buy my 4th , unless McLaren can resolve and significantly improve on how customers are treated once the car has been sold to them. Please McLaren sort it out before it’s to late.
It’s a challenge aimed I’ve seen the chain of command issue you speak of. Many want to do well but someone so distant from the situation and no personal connection makes a decision that couldn’t be more wrong
Unfortunately for McLaren, that small community watch high profile online videos and certain car Forum websites, particularly a high profile one in the UK. so good luck with positive PR. Seems the McLaren brand often attracts these type of videos and comments.
They only apologized because every single car youtuber stopped putting anything mclaren in their videos. So are they actually sorry, or because no more mclaren content on youtube is substantially hurting their business? 🤔
I think you are reading too much into it. No doubt that part of it was damage control, but part of it is probably also another person at McLaren not happy with the treatment. So would much have happened if guys like Robert hadn't said anything? Hard to say, but I think the PR VP knew it was something that needed to made right at any rate.
Journalists can tell you what a new car is like and do performance stats but only an owner can tell you what it’s like to live with and run longer term... and isn’t in the pocket of the manufacturer too. Both have a valid place and can (should) work along side each other.
@@RobertMitchell as long as there is also total transparency. It’s important to know if there have been any incentives to either party. Clearly the journalist is getting free use of a car for hours/days but the UA-camr (owner with a camera 😂) may also be getting something back in terms of servicing, support or other free stuff so honesty is required all round. I like that you clearly don’t need the money and therefore can afford to be honest... not all UA-camrs are quite so transparent. Some seem to have every word out of their mouths sponsored!

What will McLaren have to say about Vtuned, a young UA-camr in Tennessee rebuilding a 720S from a total? He had to completely replace a cracked tub, in next video he might have it ready to drive. The car was wrecked with less than 3,000 miles. Vtuned is a very experienced frame/body man and is appx. 18 years old. McClaren what say you?
Well I am sure they’d love to do the repair themselves but all manufacturers must accept that at some point I depended work will take over and Gitter done cheap
Mclaren threats customer, employees, youtuber and car enthusiasts the same way. I really don’t get it why people find the case with Dragtimes so astonishing. Just walk in a Mclaren Dealer with a big camera as a young person and you will now the brand very well. (Very different story with pretty much every other brand)
Hey Paul, it was just a shock to see someone like Brooks who has owned many McLarens for many years to be treated that way by someone so senior at McLaren. I do agree with you however the dealer was definitely at fault. Thanks for watching have a great day :-)

When did this happen? Like the apology aspect? Cuz I wonder if between this, and Doug DeMeros video on McLaren if maybe they are learning something. Doug made a video that echos some statements I remember in a video you made in this channel about how McLaren us just churning out new models and "special" cars, killing thier current owners resale value and causing people to stray from the brand. I love McLaren, of the big brands, them and Koenigsegg are the best looking and performing cars in my opinion. But lately they just seem to be aiming the shotgun at thier own foot and squeezing. I really hope they take some of this to heart, reverse thier thought process, make thier limited cars actually limited and jump headfirst into the world of UA-cam automotive journalism, because it's the future. I really want to see the brand around, I love seeing Tavarish and vTuned rebuilding thier cars as much as I love seeing thier new cars be reviewed by Doug. Clearly they can build good stuff that people want, they need to embrace that, embrace the community, and more importantly, respect the community. That's how you grow and gain a valuable fan base. A McLaren will be my ultimate prize for myself one day, I hope.
@@juzoli thanks for the info I'll check it out. So the apology came before Doug posted his McLaren video. That honestly makes me happier, that it wasn't an apology due to a bunch of bad flack, but an apology for him because they felt he deserved it. I really hope McLaren learns from this.

Now that the plug is also visible in the background, apart from the cable, everything is in order!! 😉

A small community that all buy McLaren, Apologizing was the right thing to do, If McLaren didn’t want any press on this particular car they should kept it at the manufacture?!? Bandaid solution lol, Robert excellent video and I’m sure Brook appreciates you as a friend. Best regards
@Robert Mitchell Did you mean "765 LT" instead of "675 LT" at 5:41 ?
Probably :-). I always mix them up hehe
Much love from New Mexico Robert, Hope all is well
Thanks for watching Jordan!
Is that hoodie colorway going to be available on the store at some point? Take my money please, Robert.
I think I’m the only one w a gold one 🤣🤣🤣
I want one too!!
I want the red one Misha has with the hamer and sickle ☭
its about time companies start accepting that the shift to many "small guys" is in full swing and move with the times. you said it yourself, you made a list of people who bought cars based on your recommendation. even influencing 1 sale a is a lot when the car new is deep in 6 digits.
That's exactly the point, thanks for watching the video and glad that you enjoyed the topic of conversation today
After all the discussion out there I almost feel like a McLaren owner! ... which I am sadly not :-D
You feel like it but didn’t have to put out the cash or depreciation. Best mclaren ownership experience I could imagine;-)
Hey Martin, I did see that and it's funny bring it up. I am positive that the Yaris can do a lot faster than that, and as we all know it has :-)
@@RobertMitchell It makes you wonder what their approach is, whether it's caution or if there are other issues at play
I always enjoy Robert breaking issues down!
Glad you enjoy Michael :-)
Since Zak Brown has been at the top there has been a major push on UA-cam with F1, namely the Unboxed series that other teams have now adopted. I still find it a little worrying that despite this, this whole thing sort of contradicts the value it seemed like they placed on YT content, showing a disconnect within the McLaren management. I do hope it's drawn attention to it and will be sorted out
It shows how f1 and Auto really are two completely different operations
Track records? I haven't found any information about that yet
Me neither but I'm sure they're coming soon. ;-)
@@RobertMitchell what!? Omg lol.
PS: I suspect that the twitchy nature of the car was intentional. The Senna would have been in trouble otherwise

Horrible. This would've never happen with the Dacia brand....

Congrats on being here so soon ha ha if only I could say the same for this comment! ;-)
actually, Brooks said in his elvagate video that the he discussed doing a video on the Elva with that VP of Marketing, and the VP was open to it.
Great recap. Can't wait for some of your Florida content. What are you driving in Florida? Are you borrowing Shmee's GT500?
Professional approach from McLaren, all be it to something that shouldn't have occurred in the first place - but all of us have some challenging days in our work environment.
That is very true Scott :-) thanks for watching

Guys, Apex, call Rosberg or Kubica and go do some record times at the Ring in a 765 💪 You Can Do it!
That would be quite the collaboration ha ha
Wasn’t the car making the rounds in the US to be shown off ie The smoking tire?
Yes that’s where the Contradiction to this story comes in However smoking tire drove it and overheated it without actually doing performance tests.
Hey Robert, I hope things are going well.
I just have one question right now: what shoes are those?
@@RobertMitchell 100% correct 👍
Unfortunately for McLaren, that small community watch high profile online videos and certain car Forum websites, particularly a high profile one in the UK. so good luck with positive PR. Seems the McLaren brand often attracts these type of videos and comments.
A small community if owners doesn’t need a ton of reach I guess. Selling a few thousand cars a year ist that many I suppose
Who was here when the thumbnail had a typo?
Tom was, that's why he changed it haha!
Give Brooks a reasonable lap time to strive for. He can drive!
A sensible business decision.
I agree Paul!
Using your Toyota engine parts for decor?
I’m using bmw m60 cams as table Decor, and soon to come m60 head night stand
I mean we got a find a use for them somehow hey? ;-)
They only apologized because every single car youtuber stopped putting anything mclaren in their videos. So are they actually sorry, or because no more mclaren content on youtube is substantially hurting their business? 🤔
I hadn’t realized it went that far
I think you are reading too much into it. No doubt that part of it was damage control, but part of it is probably also another person at McLaren not happy with the treatment.
So would much have happened if guys like Robert hadn't said anything? Hard to say, but I think the PR VP knew it was something that needed to made right at any rate.
Journalists can tell you what a new car is like and do performance stats but only an owner can tell you what it’s like to live with and run longer term... and isn’t in the pocket of the manufacturer too. Both have a valid place and can (should) work along side each other.
I absolutely agree Matthew, if we can work out a way to combine the two we would have the perfect car review you don't you think?
@@RobertMitchell as long as there is also total transparency. It’s important to know if there have been any incentives to either party. Clearly the journalist is getting free use of a car for hours/days but the UA-camr (owner with a camera 😂) may also be getting something back in terms of servicing, support or other free stuff so honesty is required all round. I like that you clearly don’t need the money and therefore can afford to be honest... not all UA-camrs are quite so transparent. Some seem to have every word out of their mouths sponsored!
Hey! Sac is my hometown! Do you happen to have clips of your races in Sac online Robert?
Sadly not. I wasn’t good w the media in those days
Cool sweater! I was just talking about a grey/gold colour combination for something. Loved the video as always! #TierOne
Hey thanks man, it's one of the OG Apex hoodies. We currently have white and black in the store but also now the new money shift hoodies that are selling well. Check them out on the web store if you're interested :-)
McLaren should invite Brooks to the UK to do some trackdays with the Elva.
Would be a big win
Thoughts of Doug Demuro's video on McLaren?
Hey, I don't think I've seen that! I'll check it out :-)
I base my purchasing decisions off of real reviews, many of which are on UA-cam. I trust the critical reviewers more, and I don't buy a product usually if it doesn't have critical reviews. Can smell the BS a mile away.
Hey man, I think many people do these days which is why it's important that we have good quality content surrounding these cars reviews.
Take Brooks to Sebring and get him hooked.
Now there's an idea ;-)
What will McLaren have to say about Vtuned, a young UA-camr in Tennessee rebuilding a 720S from a total? He had to completely replace a cracked tub, in next video he might have it ready to drive. The car was wrecked with less than 3,000 miles. Vtuned is a very experienced frame/body man and is appx. 18 years old. McClaren what say you?
Well I am sure they’d love to do the repair themselves but all manufacturers must accept that at some point I depended work will take over and Gitter done cheap
We need to see you compete in a Summit Freedom 500 with Cleetus and Fasterprom.
Curious on your take on Doug de muro’s recent
‘Too many special mcclaren’s video ‘
?
Yea that was interesting, especially as Doug didnt mention other manufaures like Porsche or Ferrari.
I need to watch it. Hadn’t heard of it until the comments here.
#tierone, but seriously, McLaren would have been mad not to. Insulting their customers like that
Thanks for watching Kyle!

Thanks for watching have a great day :-)
"A drop in the bucket" and yet.....
Yep ha ha
Only thing these guys learned is that their not wealthy enough to own a McLaren
Who learned that?
Saw Zak Brown has an extreme e race team.... what does that spell for Mclarens future market in terms of influence?! Thoughts Robert?
Thanks for the comment Layton, this is a great topic and maybe one we will talk about in the future :-)
It's the perfect way for them to justify a super-SUV, which make companies like Lamborghini, Porsche , Bentley and Aston Martin some serious wedge.
Robert, I love Mclarens especially the 675LT, 765LT & SpeedTail. These three cars are my dream cars & wanna own one day. If they improve their depreciation & hold their value like Ferraris, I would be so happy & owners would be happy too.

What happened to him is just because he done it first.
Maybe so that could be correct.
See DragTimes for the video posted shortly after the apology.
Robert is quite late with this video, it was like weeks ago...
@@juzoli thanks for the info I'll check it out. So the apology came before Doug posted his McLaren video. That honestly makes me happier, that it wasn't an apology due to a bunch of bad flack, but an apology for him because they felt he deserved it. I really hope McLaren learns from this.
@@Yesthatsmyfirstname Well, the financial consequences of the media backslash can never be NOT part of it...
But it seemed to be genuine to me. It is just my personal impression though. I came to know this company as a cool company which focuses on engineering instead of marketing (opposite of Ferrari), and tries to make as many cool cars as possible. From this general impression, that asshole VP seems to be the outlier.
And this is an era when someone does or says something, they like to double down on it, and never admit their wrong. The fact that they admitted it, and owned their mistake for whatever reason, already puts them into the better 10%.
Yes I was late w this vid. I’m not chasing the hot content so I seem to get to it when I do. Had I done it 10 days ago it would have been better ;-)
@@juzoli oh for sure that played a part. But Doug's channel is a lot larger, than the original chanel this all went down on. So I'm glad to hear that this was McLaren addressing the little guy as a little guy, versus because a bigger guy got thier attention and they "had" to respond, you know?
Just seems to mean more to me that it's a more personal reason for the apology.
Hang on now... sac raceway??? What years? I ran out there from 95-2007 or so. Gsxr750s 4 banger Jetta and the old fav an 88 lx 5.0. Good video with a great point.. as good as Brooks video was,it shouldn’t have been made. Not Brooks bad though. 😆
