I feel like the obsession with named aesthetics like 'cottage core' 'coquette' etc has made personal style a confusing concept for some people. it seems like people expect to buy a whole wardrobe within an aesthetic then feel trapped or confused on how to incorporate pieces they may like that fall outside of these lines. it doesn't have to be so rigid! I like what you said about buying pieces slowly. not everyone has to read or research fashion but at least do yourself the service of buying what personally makes you happy. I guess fads and subcultures have always been a thing but something about the aesthetic thing feels a lot more laundered and rigid and without the cultural context that you get within fashion subcultures
Agree 100% - I also saw this interesting TikTok which connected the lack of 3rd spaces with people chasing these aesthetics and feeling lost. I.e. raw gorpcore or punk core but not actually hiking or going to a punk rave. So you sort of feel trapped in a look you chased because you then don't have an in person environment to actually express and share your style with others
I forgot how much I love watching watching you. You're one of the only youtubers I can sit and listen to, from beginning to end without skipping or getting bored.
The conrows you had in your last video were proper neat. The fact that you can do your own boho braids and hair in general…. Its giving rich in skill and ability
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this. Really informative and enjoyed you talking about style and getting to know yourself. 🧡 could you maybe discuss more about what is has been like to develop your current style? It is quite alternative and that is not always as visible a style on black women.
So glad you enjoyed - Such a good point. I would say that finding my own personal style also coincided with me being more introspective and touching on aspects of my personality that I also wanted to express in my wardrobe and share with others. I'll try to touch on it in a future chit chat or TT 🫶
Really love the chit chat videos ❤. I also think people need to be patient with themselves, your 20s (esp mid-late) are when you start to shape/find your identity and personality a bit more so it may take a while to cultivate your personal style, you may have to try a lot before you find what works.
100% agree - I was speaking to some of my friends a couple of weeks ago and they were saying the same thing. It becomes easier to hone your style after experiencing several trend cycles, big social events and having freedom to buy whatever you want after a couple of years that you are able to start honing your style!
ONE OF MY FAVES! BACK ON HER SHIT! I'm a LA, USA Babe but I have always appreciated your content style and individuality. Wishing you so much Joy in this new year. Welcome Back
Hey Mikai, would you be able to please make a guide to how to choose your colours / shades- e.g. how to choose concealer shades ( how many shades lighter) and placement , foundation (e.g do you go 1 shade darker / how do you choose the correct colour for winter and summer) (or what is the best - full or light coverage) find the best blush, find the right thing for your undertone, im a complete newbie and these things would be so useful if you can
Hey - that's such a good idea for a video. I'll need to properly sit down and think about how to give it the attention it deserves. Love your videos as always! Was just wondering if you’d recommend the Sony ZV-1f for a beginner UA-camr or just go for the Sony ZV-1 please? Thank you 💗
Thanks babe - I would say if you're starting from scratch, just use your iPhone (as long as it is at least an iPhone 13 Pro) to get into the habit of vlogging, editing and posting. Once you know you have the habit, go for the ZV-1 ii (but try and get it for a steal on eBay) 💗
@@MikaiMcDermottthank you so much for the advice! I currently post my holidays, vlogs and LDN restaurants on TikTok & IG but wanted to start YT this year!
