He has the tendency of fronting his right guide hand on the ball during his shooting motion thus negating ball spin and reducing range on his shot- making what should be a simple motion into a more strained labour intensive ordeal.
He misses them because he lacks confidence, not because he has bad hands or terrible form. All he needs to do is just focus on the square above the rim. Rest is just mere repetition.
