  • While several modern aircraft offer specific engines as a sole source such as newer Airbus widebodies, the A220, and the Boeing 737 MAX, many others provide multiple engine choices for their airliners. When purchasing a specific aircraft type, airline operators get to choose engine options that suit their operational and other requirements. Let’s look at how engines are chosen in today’s video!

    How airlines choose their turbofan engines…
    Technicians - whichever is simpler to service.
    Mechanics - whichever is simpler to repair.
    Engineers - whichever is more reliable.
    Managers - whichever is more logistically available.
    Accountants - whichever is more fuel economical.
    Business Administrators - whichever is cheaper.

    In the case of the 787, the GEnx has better reliability than the Trent 1000; so thats why is the most preferable choice.

    when 80s-90s, the era of 747, 767, 777, A330, there is 3 brands of engines can be selected: RR, GE, PW
    CFM = GE + Safran
    IAE = RR + PW + Japanese Aero Engine Corporation + MTU Aero Engines (in early times, but RR leave the joint venture in 2011
