Spin with me: Spotted Sheep in the Grease!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 чер 2022
- Hello friends! Today we're going to spin a freshly shorn, greasy Dutch spotted sheep's fleece, straight out of the bag it came in. I'll be using my vintage Irish tension single treadle Wernekinck Delft wheel, Rachel, to do this project with me. We're spinning in the grease, but I shall call it wild spinning in this video as I attempt to do this spin outside (weather Gods be with me...)
I want to be clear on two points:
* This is not a tutorial, but I do hope you can find some relaxation in spinning with me and from some of the ASMR noises Rachel makes.
* My garden is very wild, and I love it that way. Yay for biodiversity! If you're not into that, that's cool, just don't @ me in the comments.
Thank you for tuning in, and happy crafting to you!

Hi Jente, what a beautiful fleece and a beautiful skein of yarn.-Cheers-Laura
Thank you 😁
That’s the drawback of my spinning with my tiny e-spinner: I don’t think it’d take all that well to me spinning in the grease. LOL
Yeah, I wouldn't risk that either
That was awesome 👍😎 Good Stuff
Thank you ☺️
Great outcome, my fleece look like this to, from Jacobs sheep, arent we just blessed, with theese animals 😊❤❤❤
We very much are!
Eindelijk eens gewoon zonder uitgebreide wastechnieken, leuk!
Hi Jente, what an amazing and beautiful Skein of Yarn.
I can't wait to see what you make with it!!!
Happy Spinning Fibre Friend 🎡🐑🥰
Take care and stay safe
Love and hugs Jen xxxx ❤️❤️❤️🫂🫂🫂🐕
You might be in luck that the video on what I make with that will be up in approx 10 days 😁
@@MijnWolden Will definitely keep my eyes open for that one.
Love and hugs Fibre Friend Jen xxxx 🐑🎡🥰
Your outfit and sweater is so cute!!! Also I miss spinning, I had to sell my spinning wheel when I moved across the country. Your wheel is so beautiful!
Oooffff that's major heartbreak having to sell your spinningwheel. I have three by now and I wouldn't be able to part with any of them! The sweater is knit from the pattern Juliet by thisJet on ravelry, if you're interested 😁
@@MijnWolden it was so heartbreaking and the lady even tried to lowball me. I miss my wheel!!! Hopefully I can find one in the future they can be expensive. Ooo thank you so much I’ll have to check it out!!
@@RemedyFibers Wheels indeed can be expensive. I ''luckily'' live in a country where fiber arts are absolutely not popular, so I have snatched up all my Wheels for less than 50€ because the sellers didn't know what they had on their hands. My last one was a Louet S71, going in the hundreds of euros on Etsy...
@@MijnWolden that is such a deal!! Now I am looking at wheels and I want one!!! These online prices or even on the used sites are so high. What would you make with the wool you are spinning?
@@RemedyFibers for this particular batch I'm planning a simple raglan sweater
That yarn be makin a great garment one day!
It sure will! Nice warm sweater ☺️
This turned out so pretty!!
Thank you 🥰
Hola!..Sei bravissima!... Mi sto vedendo i tuoi video dal inizio. Ti saluto dall'Italia, provincia di Bari. 🥰
Thank you! Have wonderful new year!
Beautiful 💙
Thank you 🥰
Most of the yarn I buy myself is variegated! I find it to be more forgiving of mistakes, and for my level of very messy work, the finished result generally looks more polished than if I tried to use solid yarns. This yarn looks like it would be perfect for a super cozy hat and scarf combo!
Ooh yes, that's a great idea!
Hi Jente, did you "flick" the tips on that or just spin as it came off the sheep? By the way I like your wheel and love your yard.
Just as is! 😁
The garden looks great! What the English would call a "cottage garden," after all! I've got a wheel arriving soon. I'm thinking of names. It's a Lojan Buddy (made in the Netherlands). After I assemble it, how long should I wait for a name to come to me? Enjoying your vids! Greetings from the Left Coast of the USA!
Naming is something very subjective and personal, sometimes it comes immediately, and sometimes it takes time. Get to know your wheel and they'll show their personality to you :)
@@MijnWolden 'Murgatroyd' might be nice! It's a combination of Old Norse and Olde Englishe... apparently! We'll see... The wheel is stuck at a FedEx facility in Cologne at the moment. Supposedly she/he/it will arrive tomorrow, according to FedEx's "standard delivery," but I don't see how she/he/it can make it to the Left Coast of the USA by then. I will watch more of your videos in the meantime! ~Mike
@@MikeAdamsArtist Cologne to USA in 24 hours seems like a stretch, but hey, who knows
@@MijnWolden It did arrive, just a few days late. I'm thinking a good name for the wheel would be "Senta" after the heroine in Wagner's "The Flying Dutchman." She's supposed to be spinning in the opera, but is instead daydreaming.
Hi Jente, I also spin raw, no washing, and a couple of years ago had some Dutch Spotted fleece. I found that there was quite a difference in the locks between the black and white areas. Locks were all lovely, but the black fibre was more coarse. Is this normal or was it these fleece, from a breeder here in the UK.
I didn't encounter that with my fleece, so I don't know
I love the idea of plying from a bracelet when you have more singles on one bobbin than the other. Do you break your single and wrap it around your wrist beginning with the broken end (and then reattach it to what you’ve already plied)? Or do you unwind the rest of the bobbin and start from the beginning of that single? I hope this makes sense. Thanks
I start wrapping with the single still attached to what I plied, so that the beginning of the longer single meets up with the end of the shorter one. This makes that the end of my plied yarn is effectively a loop and not two ends. I hope that makes Sense 😁
@@MijnWolden Yes I think so! I have tried this with my spindles and it’s very awkward, but I will keep trying.
What is the purpose of spinning it while dirty? I don't understand why you would want to do that. Doesn't it make your wheel greasy?
Spinning it while still greasy goes a lot smoother for some fibers. It's also easier to wash and scour a skein of yarn than it is to wash a fleece. But yes it makes the wheel greasy as well.
@@MijnWolden Thank you for the reply.
