You can make homemade buttermilk, 1 cup milk + 2 or 3 tbsp of lemon juice/vinegar, stir and let it until curdle Or use plain yogurt to substitute the buttermilk.

I didn't have buttermilk, so I used cream w a tsp of vinegar to curdle it. The batter came together quickly, baked almost 2" high, they are super tasty, not heavy but have great body. I prefer a more dense scone rather than crumbly, these were perfect. Thank you so much for another great recipe.🧡

Do you have to cook sweet potatoes first please
Susan, this recipe doesn't use sweet potato but you can add to it. Finely dice the sweet potato and mix without cooking it first.
