Also, i'm pretty sure he didn't breathe much in while driving as it heated up and fell off during the initial start and warmup test. Also, if you manage to get car exhaust *inside* your car while driving, a small amount of lead vapor is the least of your problems.

Tungsten pistons would not do as well, naming wise, cos "Lead Pistons" would make a great name for a 1990s style indie/alternative rock band, or maybe "Tin Pistons". However, tungsten pistons would probably be more durable, as tungsten has a melting point of 3400C and is used in the durable alloy, tungsten carbide. :)

You can always get a close enough timing without running the engine. Just line up the rotor with where it would be pointing to No. 1. Then line up the mark on the front pulley with the timing mark. Turn on the engine and slowly rotate the distributor until you see the points separate and create a tiny bit of spark. That will ensure the Lada will start and there won't be any guessing i.e. twisting the distributor trying to get it to start.

Crazy video. I love these crazy experiments you guys do!
Those crankcase fumes / exhaust is definitely something I would not recommend breathing in! Lead oxide is extremely toxic.

it would be cool to see a composite head.. with oniy the middle of the piston with lead.. and an iron chamber around the led. it would become molten and fly out of the intake, and exahaust.

Hey, what about Babbitt pistons, made of the self-lubricating alloy that old bearing blocks and such were made of?

      Babbitt isn’t self lubricating. .
      Not
Only did they fail in short order
      But also required oil

Babbit was just the bearing surface, not the bearing block. It was poured between the rod and crankshaft to create the bearing.

You guys are great. Experimental research at it's best! "What would happen if..." "Let's try it..." Wonderful and informative videos. I'll add a second vote for trying stone, like granite?

Try every piston material again, but use ethanol or LNG and see if combustion temps can be lowered? Water-methanol injection?

Them having their entire torso in an engine bay that sounded like it was about to fling itself apart. I wouldn't be caught dead doing that; oh wait I would because I would be☠️
