It is not a money grab, you have to inspect your aircraft to make sure everything is ok. Trust me, the day something happen god forbidden somebody will come and check, and guess who are they going to blame. The guy that owns the airplane but did not do the inspections because he thought it was a money grab. 😂
Does anybody ever check logbooks to see if inspections are done ?

It depends on the shop, but typically in our area a flat-rate price for just the inspection would be around $1,500-$2,000.
