Brian May - PHD in Astrophysics from Imperial College London. All-time great guitar player, songwriter, producer, vocalist, and author. Renaissance man on par with Da Vinci.
No not really, Freddies version at wembley Live aid 1985 is still the best version ever of this song, but this is the second best version ever made... :)
@@philfitnesspt6139 Technically not, debatable when it comes to tastefulness. Lambert is an exceptionally talented and professional singer. Whether he fits Queen is highly opinionated, but as a singer Lambert is awesome in technical standards. I'm not really big fan of Lambert's style, but the guy can pull of extraordinarily hard stuff consistently and control. Even more consistent than Mercury, but Freddie was the soulful voice and color of the band in many more regards. I like Freddie more like anyone else, but as a singer myself I can't but respect the guy that honorably fills Freddie's boots after Paul Rodgers.
Brian sang a bunch of songs on the albums. My favorites of his are '39 and Sleeping on the Sidewalk. He also sang the first verse of Who Wants to Live Forever. He just never sang lead live until after Freddie died though he did sing backup at every show
Nobody will ever replace Freddie, one of the best frontmen ever. But this version is fantastic, just spot on. Amazed I didn't realize Brian May could sing so well, and his guitar is always incredible. The band is amazing and the two backup singers certainly were welcome.
I attended this concert and was one that was the best i have ever seen. I will never forget leaving the concert to go to my car to come home, and at the back of the Brixton Academy were a number of queen fans all together playing Bohemian Rhapsody, brought a tear to my eye and will stay with me until i go upto the big rock gig in the sky
I'm pretty sure as an astrophysicist he would not be worth two hundred million dollars today. And imagine, his dad wanted him to get a proper job, who knew. I'm so happy that he put his astrophysicist career on hold for 30 years. Think what we would have missed.
How I wish that Brian had done more than two solo albums, I always thought his voice was amazing, and I like his voice better than anyone else's in the band. I remember hearing him in a video saying he foolishly thought he could sing. Dear man, you most certainly can sing.
This live version is 10/10...just perfect!! Pay attention on the drums in the second solo at the end...cozy was just an amazing drummer..big losto in 1998. BEST version without Fred! 💯🔥🔥🔥
I’m just now discovering Brian May’s solo exploits. I can’t believe I’ve missed his band’s great talent and contribution to Rock all these years. A forever Queen fan, Brian respectfully stands out on his own!
2:04 -- Oh man! Those hammers that fall! TOO funny! And then those people waving them around: 2:14 -- super hilarious and cute and funny! All the way to the end. What a fun gift from the show!
I don't know why alot of people are surprised Brain has a decent voice. All the Queen Records have great back up vocals. Two hard band's that had unbelievable back up singers and great instrumentals. Uriaheep and of course Queen.
Awesome Bri! I bet you always thought Freddie "stripped down" because he was an exhibitionist! When you're giving everything singing, dashing around the stage and playing an instrument as energetically as you do plus are under "hot" lights you are dripping wet in no time at all. Shedding the gear is a must. Love the "stripped down" look.
Went to see Brian twice on this tour - Cardiff & Nottingham. Managed to get on the front row in Cardiff and reached up and touched his foot (how sad is that!!!)
I fucking love this man. Hes been my superman since as long as I could process a melody. And I've seen him live a couple times with Queen, up close and even shared a private exchange but I wish I had seen him solo in his prime. Brian May is the KING of rock guitar. And such a beautifully gentle and humble man. He is what we should all strive to be. All hail Dr. Bri.
A fine applaudable testament to the longevity and talent of the incomparable Brian May, and an enduring song, the legacy of Queen. Written in 1984, I think we all questioned indeed, what the hell is this life all about, what ARE we all fighting for?? More exploitation from the ruling powers? More slavery? Or something better, but the song does not expect that. We're just waiting for the Hammer to fall, as though the improving gist of history has been lost, defeated, the social revolution since the 1960's squandered. We were the Champions, fighting to the end. But the underlying gist to prosper, to better, and progress the ordinary people has been defeated since 1960. Sublimated as we all have been into the hypocrisies, the unfair unashamed careless greed, of the damning and ruling elites. Enslaved and powerless again, barely surviving in our own country. All the money stolen! Shit running into our rivers. And on the brink of war, to destroy the common man, who wasn't savvy enough to play the rich man's game. Haven't the ruler's deceived so well yet again! Against the true Brits who were behind the band Queen when it seemed so glorious. I wish they had made a better and clearer statement, about the abuses since then that we have all endured, in their songs. Maybe not fashionable enough, but, that's what music is for, to tell the truth and inspire the true spirit in a nation. Where money is not our God. But our hearts blessed! is our adoration and song. Loving each other. The unbreakable bond that surpasses a mortal existence. We were raised up to there! Britain was Great! in our lifetimes, since Normandy. Since Trafalgar. Not anymore. Just disingenuous using, now. The accomplices of elitist assassin's. I mourn.
Fabulous way to end a great show, i bought the cassette (remember them?) originally and still have it, wish it was still available as a DVD, maybe Brian will get round to re-releasing it?. Brings back great memories from all thos years ago and kept alive the spirit of Queen when we thought it was all over. Have seem them with Paul Rogers and Adam Lambert, still great shows entertaining another generation with Freddie's memory.
I am so glad I found this, what a great way to start my day today. Excellent band and of course there is Brian, guitarist extraordinaire. Love this! I am glad Brian is still rockin'.
Woooow. Go Brian! His vocals are PERFECT for this song. Now i wonder if was singing on the original recording with Freddie. The diction, phrasing, everything!
Yes, this still kicks ass in 2024
Those backing singer are .......... incredible
Spot on... I can watch 'em all day.
That poor guy on camera 4 had to keep shots of them all the time.
Those blondes are the hardest working backup singers I have ever seen! Damn, they are into it!
quite!!
Don't know how many times I've watched and just noticed they have different hair colour.
the most cool astrophysicist
Astrotologist actually.
What the hell is an astrotologist? He is an astrophysicist.
Brian May - PHD in Astrophysics from Imperial College London. All-time great guitar player, songwriter, producer, vocalist, and author. Renaissance man on par with Da Vinci.
"Astrology" is made up bullshit. Astronomy and astrophysics are scientific studies.
He has also been appointed CBE ( Commander of the Order of the British Empire ).
This is the greatest version of this song I've heard. Brian has a great voice
No not really, Freddies version at wembley Live aid 1985 is still the best version ever of this song, but this is the second best version ever made... :)
I always thought that May's voice is more tender and soft tenor. Man, was I proven wrong today. Hell, he sang that with passion.
HE generally does but as proven he can pull out the hard rock vocals when needs be!
Way better than Lambert for sure

Damn, Brian May as frontman too? I never knew. This does not disappoint at all.

Jason T. Aho no replacing Freddie he was the best frontman ever
And this is an oficial live album!

This is one of the best versions that I've ever heard of this song. For sure Freddie is the best, but Brian's voice matches perfectly with the song.
So surely.
Brian made this song thats why :D
Well it should, he wrote it. :)
I'd leave a like but it's already got 39. I wouldn't wanna ruin it.😌
Best version? I am wondering if you heard other versions?
Excellent guitarist, astrophysicist, PhD, a knight, and all around nice person....long live brian may...may you and your family be blessed😁

2:00 they played hammer to fall so well that Freddie dropped hammers from heaven XD
I'll see myself out...

Cozy s double bass kick in this song just adds to its rockin brilliance !

The whole band is soooooo good as is monster performances on vocal and guitar by Brian May!
Bass and drums from Black Sabbath. Keys from Queen. Plus 2 banging blonde sopranos...who would expect anything less?
It's crazy how amazing Brian is as a lead singer:o
He has a much better live range than FM

And brian even sung on some songs, such as 39
decent?? Brian’s vocals are fucking awesome

What a brilliant guitarist Brian is today is 2020 and he's just been voted best rock guitarist ever
I think I'm the target audience for the stellar editing work that keeps cutting to the backup singers.
Wow. Best cover of this song Ive ever heard.
