Thank you. Every other vid is 3-5x longer than yours and I’d rather spend that time learning about how to clean the 17 other features of this damn machine
Thanks for the video. I stopped following my written manual instructions and looked this up because I had to apply a lot of pressure to remove the top burr piece
wow! thanks. i couldn’t figure out how to remove the top burr. instruction manual gave no details. vacuuming really helped. now im hoping i will get some good draws. thanks again.
You know for an expensive Espresso Machine, they could make it easier for you to take out the burr also make the metal bar a bit more comforting or easier so doesn't hurt your hands while taking it out. Might be too much to ask but I just thought for an expensive Machine you get what you pay for kind of thing.
The challenge I have is with the blades underneath the burr, which have accumulated a coating of oil from daily use and now will not turn and is difficult to reach and to clean. Even with regular cleanings like the one shown here, this is a problem. I know there are tablets that can be used for cleanings, but they’re not very helpful if you haven’t used them regularly. (Or didn’t know to use them regularly…..)
My outer burr appeared to be stuck, so thanks for "don't be afraid to add a little bit of force" at 2:09. I wonder why the UK Support could not have said that.
@@Michael-zn2jc Yes, I did. I grabbed the wire loop at each end, as close to the burr as possible, and turned much harder that I would have felt comfortable doing, but nothing broke, and the burr came loose. Also, before, and between attempts at turning, I tried to brush away any powder that may be present, hoping that the brush ends would slightly penetrate the space between the components and remove a bit of the debris. I had to persist, but it worked. Another thing I did (and I hope I'm making sense here) was to use a blunt edge screwdriver, hold it at an angle against the bottom of the wire, and tap the end of the screwdriver in the appropriate direction. It didn't seem to make the unit actually move, but I'd imagine it probably loosened things enough to help. Persistence is a key factor here. I had similar difficulty the second time I went through the process, but I managed again. I'd say that the way to prevent such hard sticking is to clean more often. That reminds me...
My inner grinder piece is really stuck in there and even though you said to not be afraid of adding force to remove it, I'm afraid I'm going to break it! I guess I'll just go for it and hope for the best, but I'm going to wait until after I make my afternoon coffee lol Edit: I was able to remove it without breaking it.
The problem I encountered was that I couldn’t get the outer burr back on. There are three grooves in the inside of the hopper, and the burr locks into those. Those grooves can get grounds in them, which can be gummy if you prefer dark roasts. I had to dig the ground out of those grooves, which wasn’t easy. I was hoping this video would talk about a way of cleaning those easily.
This is good but when the machine plugs up which is likely with some of the more oily beans. You will need to do a deeper cleanse there’s a bolt you turn counterclockwise and then two washers a lock washer and a regular washer then you pull the grinder and there’s a delicate felt washer you need to be very careful with as they’re hard to fine if you break also there is a washer than could be removed here so don’t loose in the vac it vacuum again you may even have to run a pipe cleaner or somesuch object to remove the blockage I have never found it necessary to clean a Grindr unless it plugs up to get to this plug you have to go at least two steps further than this video shows it’s also a good idea to unplug the machine. Yep
Hi how are you ? I have a breville touch, normally I with 11 seconds of the mill would fill my cup to make my coffee, now it takes 20 seconds to do it since little coffee comes out of the mill, I have already cleaned the mill and the same problem continues, you will know the reason ?
I've cleaned our multiple times and still cannot get it to produce grinds, only on one of the largest settings. All the parts inside appear to be good. Had it since 2017.
Hi, Great tutorial, but I was hoping you can tell us the best way to switch beans in the hopper without any leftovers from the previous flavored beans.
I love your videos. They are thorough and simple. I don’t see the handle thing under my hopper - just grinding blades I ran my brush around. I wonder if it should have that part and is missing it? May explain why it doesn’t grind sometimes. Hmm. Thank you!
It can get VERY stuck depending on how long it's been since the last cleaning. Mine took a few minutes of effort. I wish the handle used to twist it out was a little more sturdy...
I got it eventually, buy doing the vacuuming. Then putting a tea towel in my hand and gripping the wire handle then as advised elsewhere to push down and turn anti clockwise with brute force. It was the tea towel that helps. 🧚
Thank you for the tip, Jenine! It was the tea towel that did it for me too. That little handle is too flimsy, but with the tea towel I could muscle it out. Coffee tastes sooo much better now that everything is clean!
Susanna Visser WOW, the towel was a great suggest, it actually works, as I have not been able to do clean that part for along time. Thank yo so much to you Susanna Visser, for the comment and also Jennie Powell and Samantha Siefert you are all 👌🏼👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏼👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏼👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That's because you aren't using the same coffee or the same machine as me... need to dial in independently. Copying someone else's settings provides absolutely no value
My burr grinder is stuck so badly that, I used a lot of force with both hands, to the point that the wire was bending, or as if it’s gonna snapped, but it still wouldn’t budge. What can I do...? 😭
I had the same problem with my first Breville Smart Grinder Pro. (It is basically the same grinder - it is just a stand alone) My wire got damaged - but I found out that if you will back your grinder grinds to the coarsest setting it will open the gap between the burrs more and shoul allow the top burr to pop free. Frequent cleaning will prevent this from happening. I clean mine after 1 pound of coffee, but you could do it weekly.
I was really surprised that the burr grinder doesn’t click into place, considering how hard it was to remove the first time I cleaned it. I really thought I was doing something wrong.
Thank god for Seattle Coffee Gear I did not follow this video and destroy my Breville grinder. Not only is this process completely useless - a little rice will clean the grinder way better. Removing that nut would void your warranty and tightening it properly is difficult without locking the motor of the grinder first.
Has anyone had issues with this grinder jamming up with lighter roasts? I clean the machine regularly, even remove the bottom burr to clean in that area also. Any suggestions?
Hi everyone, I noticed that most of the videos about cleaning the grinder does not cover the lower burr. This was mainly due to the standard vacuum machine hose could not get access to it. Here I would like to share with you on how to clean the lower burr without removing it with this simple design. Please make sure you read the comments that I had provided on how to design this project. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. ua-cam.com/video/WTPB9pWLDNs/v-deo.html
I encourage you both to adjust your internal (not external dial) grind setting coarser, and then experiment with dosing exactly 18gr into an empty hopper, and grinding until completely empty
Mine internal has been on 5 and been fine up until this week, it takes a good few seconds for grinds to come out then comes out in clump, from googling it a worn impella will do this? As it's ment to push grinds out if I read right, could be wrong shouldn't be worn only being about 2 months old and being metal. Will try turning it up tomorrow see wht happens
Hmm, yes, that does seem like a function issue not a settings issue... I would get in contact with Breville support given that your machine is still new :)
Did you ever figure out what the problem was with your machine? Mine is doing the same exact thing. It makes an unusual noise and grinds the beans but not enough of them

Unfortunately in the world of espresso, these machines are quite cheap
I know, it totally sucks! Mine wouldn't budge--& I've got the Barista pro. I had to use pliers on that weak metal basket handle to remove it!
It's nuts, I cannot remove it with my hand - it hurts. Will have to try pliers or something
@NathanBiskop move to a coarser grind setting to unjam the burrs
Super helpful! Thank you! Particularly the tip of using a vacuum!
Very informative and easy to follow, thank you!

Is there a need to do a thorough clean before using the machine first time for any shaving or debris left during build and assembly?
My outer burr appeared to be stuck, so thanks for "don't be afraid to add a little bit of force" at 2:09. I wonder why the UK Support could not have said that.
Same. Were you able to get it free? I was pretty sure that was how it was done but I was not sure when it wasn’t coming out.

Thanks for the video, very clear.
Thanks, very useful video for Breville owners
Very well presented, good points on the less obvious aspects, thanks a lot!
Thank you, I did it!
Is this adequate cleaning if usually like to use darker oily beans? I heard you have to run some rice through to help clean it but I'm not sure
Thanks appreciated the vacuuming tip.

Hi, Great tutorial, but I was hoping you can tell us the best way to switch beans in the hopper without any leftovers from the previous flavored beans.
Grinding until empty of the old beans, and then grinding 10-20 grams of the new coffee should be plenty to get out any old grinds :)
@@LifestyleLab_ I see what you mean, Thanks ;-)
I can't open the grinder it is stuck. Are there any suggestions?

@LifestyleLab_ thank you! Got it 👍 🤩

Yes! Not in the dishwasher, but with soap and warm water by hand. Just make sure it is COMPLETELY dry before re-installing

Not thorough enough. My standalone version clogs, and merely taking the removable burr does not come close to removing the retained grounds.
You didn’t take the extra step and clean the burr mechanism itself.
