@@elflaco336 I get what you mean. I remember a story from a buddy who went eating with his girlfriend and saw some guys on the news carrying in public in their day to day lives. Most of those people are just practicing their rights more openly to prove a point but with all the crazy shit that's going on, I don't blame anyone for being weirded out by it. But it depends on where you go.
I agree, the day you need to carry a rifle with you is going to be a bad day. That being said if you want to carry one on you, you should be able too with no problems.
Exactly. Anyone who’s ever been in the middle of a mass shooting… I wonder if afterwards, they thought to themselves, “Man, I’m so glad I didn’t have a firearm to defend myself” 😂
I think that during these times no form of carrying should be considered impractical. I like the idea of a backpack gun hopefully I'll be able to get there.
i recreated this setup months ago minus the can best thing i ever did i take it everywhere the mall h.e.b. walmart u name it my daughter feels super safe when we go shopping and i get a kick out of thinking i just might be the most dangerous man in the room and that all the people i see while wearing it are the safest they will ever be that day Lol
When I saw the title, I was like "Naw" cuz I thought of my rifle set-up. But honestly after you opened the bag and pulled out your set-up I definitely flipped. In a dangerous situation, better accuracy, power and ammo capacity... Yes yes indeed.
That was my thought too when I first watched the video, thought he was going to pull a couple tourniquets out of one of the external pouches he had a spare magazine and power cords in. But I still like the set up In general. Wonder what it actually weighs.
Yeah, but in reality a mugger is just going to demand the whole bag and wont let someone reach into it. Thats why the concealed pistol on the hip is important, but even more important is situational awareness to keep you from getting into that situation in the first place.
Are you americans allowed to carry a rifle concealed? And are you allowed to self defend with it when you are out shopping and something happens where its needed. Is there laws that says otherwise. I know each state might be different(california) but what goes for most of the states?
@@keanur6541 I can't find summary data on which state does which, but at least some states specifically use the word "handgun" or "pistol" on their permits, while others only use the word "firearm" -- which of course would cover every type of gun. Although per the ATF a "rifle" has a barrel length of at least 16 inches, which would make it difficult to conceal. The firearm that Colion pulled out of his backpack in this video was, in the eyes of the ATF, a pistol (not a rifle), due to it having a sub-16" barrel and having a "pistol brace" instead of a stock. So in this case specifically, even if Texas specifically used the word "pistol" on its permit, he would be fine. That said, regardless of the laws for concealed carry, the majority of states allow open-carrying of "long guns" (rifles and shotguns), as you may have seen in videos and pictures of protests. So while a store is within their right to kick you out/off their (private) property for open carrying, yes you could otherwise do it if they let you stay, and could use it in a suitable bad scenario.
@@keanur6541 You'd need to check out the laws on a near daily basis to make sure that you're staying legal. That sucks that the laws change with little or no notice.
I think there are plenty of small scenarios one could come up with to where they could make use out of a rifle. My standing point on it is: don't carry anything, if you do not consistently train with it in said configuration. If you are going to carry a rifle in a bag along with any other supplemental gear, you need to be training on what it's like to deploy said kit, no matter how small or how large it may get.
Surprisingly it's like that in Europe of all places. They just treat the guns like machine guns and have crazy limits on the firearms themselves. You can actually get the equivalent of a traffic ticket for NOT having a suppressor
That vertx bag is amazing, I was lucky enough to get a smith n Wesson labeled version as swag. It is my current everyday bag. Thank you Colion for everything that you do, and representing all of us in an effort to protect our rights!
Dan Petty couldn't agree more! I believe it was Reid Henricks who said to always have medical gear in your bag because of you plan on having to use a gun you better plan on being shot also.
Just commented this too! (Didn’t see yours) A person is much more likely to be in a situation where they need to help someone with a life threatening injury than they will be in a situation that requires a firearm
When I travel city to city , my rush 24 always has my 10.5” “rifle”(pistol) and a reasonable amount of ammo , med sups, snacks, water, the things I need to fight my way home no matter the distance
Jet what kind of "rifle" do you have? My dad used to have a 10.5" Ruger .44 Blackhawk that he called his "hand cannon". He took down a wild boar with it in TN and I still have the wall mount.

I had a grade school teacher who was also my archery coach. I immediately began passing that class with pretty decent grades where I had been failing previously. So I just want to say thank you for being that kind of teacher!
I like it. I think it is a great idea. I don’t know how “practical” it is to lug it around everywhere. I would absolutely consider keeping a “ready bag”, set up like this, in close proximity to my location. Locked in a trunk, in a locked box under a truck seat or large center console. Absolutely, I love it. AND if it is not too heavy, hell yea, carry it with you!
@@Millstone_a_child_of_God for me it’s not about the ability to carry a ten lb bag. It is about practicality; I can carry a pistol with an extra mag for a total of 31 rounds, or I can carry a backpack gun with 31-61 rounds. The pistol is small and easily concealed and on my body, vs the ar in a backpack. I then weight he probability of me needing more than a pistol and 31 rounds. It is highly unlikely, and in the even that I find myself in need my pistol and 31 rds can help me fight back to my vehicle if I need more. I think have the capability at hand is great, but there are various situation and scenarios that need to be taken into account.
mike gager what makes it a pistol? It shoots a 556 without a slide and you shoulder it and the magazine is separate from the grip. Let’s just call it what is a SBR without silly permission slip lol. If you can’t fire it one handed and achieve 1% of its accuracy on a full magazine then it’s not a handgun. Not trying to be a stepper but these exceptions are so silly that actual SBR rules are void.
@@someguy5444 - legal technicalities are what the modern world is built on. It's why lawyers exist- to be precise with language. Unless he left a SB pistol brace on a lower, after it became a rifle with a 200$ tax stamp for manufacturing an SBR, it's a pistol. It's a pistol, because the SB brace is designed for pistols, and by its self does not remanufacture a pistol into a rifle. If he put a normal AR stock on it, he would be remanufacturing a pistol into a rifle, if he did so with either a barrel of less than 16 inches, or an approved NFA tax stamp for that specific pistol lower, that would be illegal.
I've been carrying an SBR in a backpack for over ten years as and EDC. I have evolved what I carry over the years, and I own several types of bags to facilitate my different setups.

@Spike Flea well you know you can get hurt too, or whoever you're with, as the saying goes, better to have something and not need it rather than to need and not have.
@Spike Flea I'd like to add the caviat of flexicuffs just because you shot them and are now trying to save them doesn't mean they're not going to try and fight you if they stabilize. Though after recent events maybe we should throw in those expensive but handy crowd control tasers...
@Spike Flea I was joking because you can only shoot one asshat at a time until the under barrel grenade launcher sees a change in legislation... But yeah if you have the legal justification and can't preserve the waste of skin on the other end of the barrel use the live ammo.
AGREED!!! If you can make holes there's a hood chance you could take some holes and need to plug them. At bare minimum 2 TQ's ,some packing gauze and set of chest seals. If your already toting a pack for the rifle, may as well have the medical. And your chances of using the medical gear is higher than using the rifle!
Non-gun people: Why would you ever need any of that?!?! Normal gun guys: That would be cool if I'm headed on a long day trip. Preppers: How are you gonna ready without an m249 and a months worth of food?!
How do you carry that if you don't mind me asking? I live in NC & new to open carry. I have an ak id like to carry with me but not sure how. Do I keep it locked in a bag behind my seat? Should I keep it on the passenger seat? Do I have it ready to rock or is the mag out ? I have so many questions.
@@copperwopper6429 Ironically, the places where you actually NEED a rifle in your car your not allowed to have it. And the places where you can have it in your car, you likely dont need it.
"A pistol gets you to your rifle." I have a truck/trunk gun. I don't take it everywhere, but it's frequently an option. I am working on a discreet motorcycle mount to expand my options, but sometimes it's just not practical to bring a rifle at all. Cars/trucks get broken into or stolen. Some places it's just not possible or reasonable to carry a gun bag. Short Barrel Rifles are beyond the reach of us poor folk and folding or takedown pistol caliber carbines are another option, but a rifle is what the subject of the video was. I regularly practice at 75 to 100 yards with my pistol, but that isn't really practical under "oh shit oh shit oh shit" conditions. That's more for my own confidence working closer in. Every day carry rifle? Sometimes you find a safe egress. Sometimes you use lesser means. Sometimes your pistol is enough and sometimes it gets you to your rifle. I live in a permissive environment; a Constitutional Carry State, but even here in the Wild West, a pistol really is the American Express Card. "Never leave home without it."
SBRs are only another $200. That's a good chunk of money, but in the gun world it's not that bad. But that said, a pistol brace gets the job done for half that price, plus you can easily and legally take it out of state.
You should check out the rifle uppers by micro tech I think is the name but they make rifle uppers that will mounts to many popular polymer pistol lowers turn your pistol into your rifle not sure what the pricing is but they are neat
In the words of the wise Clint Smith of Thunder Ranch, "When it comes to guns; one is none, two is one, and 3 is better." Carrying a rifle every day is most definitely practical.
@@jimrustle643 some people are training that way. The vast majority arent tho. And its hardly practical for everyday life. Rather keep a rifle or boomer in the truck. Plus cant walk around with it out here in cali anyways

You know. I've been looking for one of those. Especially since I heard they come with fire breathing barrel shrouds that have an aim bot button for when you get enough points in your kill streak to activate it. But for the life of me I just cant find one instock.
Seems like a decent setup. however I would personally rather have the rifle in a separate compartment from the laptop/tablet. Just because there may be times when you need to get to a laptop and don't want to be shifting around a rifle. Also, needs more medical kit.
Thanks for the video Colion, definitely on the heavy side if you carry your MBP around. As an apple employee let me suggest unplugging the USB-C from the block, otherwise the cable tends to short out when its bent that way often.

In my interpretation of the 2nd Amendment, you have the right to "carry" an F/A-18 Hornet if you can afford one, and it doesn't even need to be concealed.
Exactly shit some states even with a permit it's still against the law to have a loaded rifle in your vehicle, let alone in a backpack. My state I can just open carry one, but should I, not really. Not bad in the trunk though.
I absolutely agree, plus that bag has to be on you at all times and whatever weight it turns out to be will increase as the day goes on. Give me my handgun and several magazines.
Just upgraded my carry game. I used to carry just my edc pistol on body with safe life defense lvl 3a panels in my backpack/laptop bag. I just bought a Remington tac 14 20 gauge for backpack carry and am ordering the vertex commuter xl 2.0 to carry everything in.

I think carrying it around on person like that isn’t practical and that’s pretty obvious, but I would want to in my vehicle have that nearby for sure. I carry my handgun and a spare mag all the time and I feel fairly confident for most situation with that. Good stuff Colion.

You know what is more dangerous than any virus? Stupid fucking people (we have a lot of them) and panicked, mob mentality. Literally, a good portion of our population can barely manage to wipe their own asses - they are wholly dependent on others for survival and basic needs. This makes them extremely dangerous in such circumstances.
Appreciate all you do for us all, Colion. I think this is a great idea and am working on setting up a "get home" bag to carry in my vehicle. I do like the idea of having an EDC bag with a rifle as well, but would definitely add a trauma kit. 300 Blackout and LAW Tactical Folder make a great combination and is what I carry also. Anxiously awaiting delivery of my "I am the Militia" t-shirt this Saturday!
Depends on what the situation is, where you live, what’s going on in your area or the world. If you carry a backpack daily and own your own business and have a compact pistol like 300 blackout that comfortably fits there’s no reason not to.
I mean, it depends how much he uses it. I may not carry my Acer around everywhere anymore, but when I was at community college, I had it with me everywhere I went. I did a lot of work on it. At one point I would have commented something similar. Linux rules. However macbooks are useful to those that don't mind being mistreated by the company that makes them. I keep a system with dual boot on it Linux for personal and windows for work and gaming.
Great video CN! I like the idea of always having a rifle/rifle caliber carbine at all times. I try and have one at least in my truck. But You make a strong case for having a little AR or AK folder in an EDC backpack. Keep up the great info.

Yeah I would never open carry ANY firearm in this fucked up world. You're just making yourself a target and going to be the first one shot by a bad guy. You won't even get a chance to use it to try and save people. I live in an open carry state and still conceal carry.

I love the idea of a handgun for fast firepower and the packed rifle for when a little bit more is needed. In a mass public shooting incident you would most likely be able to find cover and deploy the rifle from a safer location and range making you the threat stopper.
Yes Yes I do see the practical side of this. I have already done this and you gave me some more good ideas. I go No were without my stuff. Always ready to save my life. thanks

I think that AR pistol is a perfect truck gun, and the fact that it fits in that bag so easily is awesome. Practicality is like a 6/10 though, due to weight and amount of stuff you can carry. Sure you can stuff it but do you really wanna basically carry a rucksack just to have an AR pistol like that handy? Point being is if all you’re carrying is pretty minimal yes it’s practical. I personally stuff my backpacks with bunch of stuff tho idk if im the only one 😅

My sub2000 makes an excellent backpack gun. Also carry a glock so having the magazines interchangeable is nice as well. Only thing i had to get used to on the sub is that you have to get really down on the gun with your cheek weld (moreso than an ar) to utilize the stock sights.
I use the 5.11 COVRT 18 2.0, although it's only because the OG version was starting to fray on the backpack bottom after 7 yrs of use, and I mean USE. 4 rotations, low vis, "tourist" look but I've had to break it open a couple of times, and glad I had it. Granted, different regions look at "tourists" differently, and I learned quickly that in 2nd or 3rd world countries to dust up my pack, hang socks off the carry handle to dry, and swap out all pull tabs for black paracord. All black. When I am off-body carrying concealed, both primary and secondary, the COVRT18 has a GREAT CCW hidden compartment with velcro and plenty of space. I pack in a Glock 19, running a factory mag with a +6 baseplate, not chambered. 20 rounds in that one. I also carry 2 - 24 round factory Glock mags with plus 2 weighted baseplates (considering drop free), but I only load them to 25, for a total of 70 rounds for the pistol, and the rifle is 2 + 1 in the gun, for 90 rounds. You'd think that's enough ammo, right? No. You'd hope. Of all the two-way ranges I've been on, all the details, it only took me once to run completely out of ammo, before I began carrying the longer stick mags as reloads. And, as I listed above, that was a total of 160 rounds, before back up rolled into the TIC, I was lucky. (Downtown Kabul, not a good place to be, horrible pollution, horrible poverty, lots of corruption.) The 5.11 COVRT 18 backpack can carry my laptop, soft armor back panel, I don't do hydration bladders when low-vis, so I just carry 2 - 1L Nalgene's on either side in the already sewn in outer water pouches. Expandable stuff pouch can carry a 2XL sweatshirt or a helmet with NODS. I rigged the internal molle to hold admin and medical, rather than extra mags, as the "administrative" factory portion has two pockets which will hold a 30 round AR mag in each one. I suppose I could plus up with 2 more mags if I didn't have admin and medical. Something for your consideration, although Vertx makes great stuff... 5.11 also makes this panel that is just molle, and is a bit larger than a 10x12 plate, but I can fit a piece of 3a soft armor that I clobbered together and double-stitched with my sister's sewing machine, to make 1 panel with 2 overlapping layers of 3a. If needed, I can add a plate to the inside, I have some L3 AR1000s, full spall coat, so I'd have to remove the laptop if adding a plate. There's molle all over it, so I bought 2. One to use solely as an armor panel (soft and plates) carrier, for ease of swapping packs, just pull it out of one laptop or hydration compartment and drop it into another, now your back has 3a... the other one to be dropped into the backpack, well, really almost any Jansport sized or bigger pack can handle a 17 " laptop, and I run 3 AR mag placard on the bottom. 3 pistol mag pouches on the outside of each AR holster with my IPSC mags, 22 rds each. Another 5.11 gear add on is the TacMed combo, I've stuffed 2 IFAKs w 1 TQ in, and another TQ is on my buttstock. A 3rd in the bottom of my hangar, a Shellback Tactical fanny pack hangar w 3a armor backing. Customized it to have a TQ right over my nuts, and 2-AR mag pouch sits behind the IFAKS, at the top and most accesible portion of the molle panel, just below the handle. My homeboy at LAPD who I train with at the BJJ dojo likes my setup, and is going to copy most of what I've done, but with focus on adding non-lethal. That's all the endorsement I needed. So, if no tactical insert with extra mags and medical is in my bag, I still will have 2 plus one in mags plus the one in the gun. W the insert, I plus up 5 rifle and 3 pistol mags, that's now just a mag over a standard combat load at 240 for my primary (instead of 210 rds) and another 66 for my pistol...totaling 63 BASE load plus 66 extra if I plus up for 129 total. But, the benefit of this bag is at the least I'll have a primary, a secondary, and 2 extra mags for each - which can, again, be plus up by 5 more rifle, 3 more pistol. I still have space for a radio and multiple CATs. Let's just say I'll never be Winchester in a TIC again, not with 129 pistol and 240 rifle. FYI, the rifle is a 556 NATO, Daniel Defense Mk18, with a LAW folder adapter; and, the pistol is a Glock 19m (9mm). That gives me a literal "minuteman" ability to go from the sound of a pop, crack, or call, and depending on what I'm doing and how I'm dressed, I can take the non-armor panel and armored panel, duffel with full rattle and rifle and go. Normal setup otherwise with a handheld light in addition to a weapon-mounted light, and a Cold Steel Recon 1 tanto blade. For an emergency, like, fire/flood/blood/active shooter, my full wrap w AR1000 L3s, full spall coat, and kit is in a duffel, ready to throw in the trunk. I'm stocky, I can carry the extra weight and still have good agility and mobility, while bringing a lot of heat to a fight.

Amen

I think there are plenty of small scenarios one could come up with to where they could make use out of a rifle. My standing point on it is: don't carry anything, if you do not consistently train with it in said configuration. If you are going to carry a rifle in a bag along with any other supplemental gear, you need to be training on what it's like to deploy said kit, no matter how small or how large it may get.

fucc the social norms do it anyway lol
Thanks for this im setting up a 300 blackout build for this purpose and needed a good 🎒
In Texas we did it, We or most of us had them in a gun rack in our rear window
Steve Wooten
Man I sure miss those days. Whenever we were traveling to town of going anywhere every pick up had a scoped rifle and a shotgun in the gun rack in the rear back window. Don’t see that anymore.
Take care and stay safe don’t for get to carry everyday 👍🏼
@@Krazeyeyed no you sure dont see that anymore but back then we didnt even have to roll our windows up or lock the doors! Amazing how much can change in a short time. You do the same stay safe and alert brother!😉
@David Watson
Not in my state it's not.
Oh empty gun ruck in the truck how depressing 😣😣😣😣
Honestly, this is the sort of set-up I had thought about for if I were to get a FoldAR-15. I think about this a lot, heh.
Seeing someone do a variation of what I thought helps me visualize it better. Thanks for this video!
I love the idea of a handgun for fast firepower and the packed rifle for when a little bit more is needed. In a mass public shooting incident you would most likely be able to find cover and deploy the rifle from a safer location and range making you the threat stopper.
I know this is a year old comment, but the guy in Indiana: 8 hits of 10 shots from 30-40 yards with a concealed carry handgun!
@@kitop310Won’t need 8 rounds from a rifle, statistically speaking. I’d rather have the authority with a rifle.
Needs some medical
He said it wasn't set up completely so I took it as an example. You can add whatever you want to your bag.
Hey, if it’s a Constitutional Carry state, why not?? And should’nt all 50 be Constitutional anyway???
🇺🇸💪👍
no research shows it causes crime rates to increase news.stanford.edu/news/2014/november/donohue-guns-study-111414.html
Yes they should! Especially upstate NY which will hopefully be the new 51st state
Yes Yes I do see the practical side of this. I have already done this and you gave me some more good ideas. I go No were without my stuff. Always ready to save my life. thanks
"To do is better than to do not! Just Sayin'!" 😎🤠🇺🇸
Kind of disappointed you don’t keep medical in that bag honestly.
That's what my first thought was however he did say he didn't have it setup completely
Mr Way2Good very true.
Ditto...
Exactly what i'm looking to do with the Gamut 2.0. Thank you
Medical bro, you need some Tq’s at least.
You are 100% spot on. There are enough pockets to put some sort of blow out kit.
I was hoping someone else thought that.
Just what I was thinking. Weapons, electronics, but no first aid kit.
I wanted to comment with that. If you have something that creates holes, you need something that can close these.
Short answer: No
As far as I can tell, a handgun is usually good enough for everyday carry, having a rifle in your house and/or car ready for use isn't a bad idea however.
gotta agree not every day carry but available.
Well technically its a pistol so
I like the idea of having a rifle handy. Not really sold on having to get into the rifle compartment to get out my laptop or tablet. I’d like to see a pack with a separate compartment just for the rifle.
I used to carry a 105mm in my pants pocket, but I had to stop.
I was getting asked out by too many random women, and the old lady got mad.
And seriously dude, you're a Mac user? You probably don't even know how to change your own oil.
I wish I had a whole 105mm in my pants....
105mm huh? No wonder the ladies were always after you. Ya'll carryin' a tank mounted howitzer around in your pants.
If we’re talking EDC it’s probably over kill never the less I love this bag!!!
Vertx transit sling with the armor panel and a 12.5" AR with the Cryhavoc take down barrel and allot of medical. Always with me and I love it. Also always have a MR918 with RMR and a 20 round back up.
when dangerous people try to harm me i simply point to the "safe zone"sign and they leave me alone, exactly how university taught me.
You still alive?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Fudds will probably think so if its "that" rifle that shall remain nameless lmaooooo
Fudds are getting ballsy now too, had one scream at me for owning bolt actions because "YOU ONLY NEED A SHOTGUN!!! I CAN'T WAIT TILL THEY BAN BOLTS NEXT!"
That's going to be a real whoosh for people who haven't seen that meme 😁
haha LOL haha ikr
nicely done sir
DKM Graf Zeppelin are you serious right now 😂 Jesus dude what the hell is wrong with people
I think that AR pistol is a perfect truck gun, and the fact that it fits in that bag so easily is awesome.
I'd prefer something like the Keltec sub 2000 because it's just so darn lite for a backpack
Makes more sense
Go get an ati omni hybrid .223/5.56..
It weights 6lbs fully loaded.. Which is the cheapest, and lightest ar15 that anyone could depend on in any case.
#(ck) common knowledge
I do like the kel tec as well.. But I also like the hipoint 40.. Most people think bad about.
But ive upgrade to sd40ve, and covered all scenario bases..
Ar, shotgun, handguns, sccy cpx2 9mm and a couple different types of 40cal. Even a machete..
Go to your local gun store and at leasehold an ati.
#(ck) common knowledge
Actually I buy all my firearms at rural king.. They be cheap as fuck..

My sub2000 makes an excellent backpack gun. Also carry a glock so having the magazines interchangeable is nice as well. Only thing i had to get used to on the sub is that you have to get really down on the gun with your cheek weld (moreso than an ar) to utilize the stock sights.
Why not keep a blowout kit or IFAK in there too? Just makes sense to have a way to plug holes too.
I have carried a rifle in my vehicle since I was around 18. I’m 63 now. I really like the idea of the pack.
I'm surprised you don't have any portable hearing protection with you. After all that AR pistol is going to be loud even with a suppressor.
He did say that his first two mags are subsonic. His third are supers, though.
sordin msa headsets fold pretty nice
Huh!?
Honestly, I would like to carry an RPG-7 with at least 2 spare rockets in a backpack for EDC. But, ya know..
(Downtown Kabul, not a good place to be, horrible pollution, horrible poverty, lots of corruption.)
The 5.11 COVRT 18 backpack can carry my laptop, soft armor back panel, I don't do hydration bladders when low-vis, so I just carry 2 - 1L Nalgene's on either side in the already sewn in outer water pouches.
I live in New Jersey right now but when I moved back to Pennsylvania I will definitely get this setup! 👍👍
