    I watched a LOT of video's on here for the August Smart Lock and yours was "the best". I'm guessing you attended Toastmasters. I like the fact that you said it will work with Nest Thermostat. And now August has a WiFi connector. The 'Sesame Smart Lock' looks more appealing for several reasons. 1) Cheaper in price. 2) Way easier to install. 3) Not as big and bulky in appearance.

    Like the power going out scene... the couple did some activities while the lights were out. Although... it is not that obvious, cuz before the lights went out it was only a sec. Reviewing... the guys tie got messed up and her blouse's top button was unbuttoned. Extra touch would be their hair being all messed up and stuff on the table has fallen down.

    My door needs to be nudged a bit to engage the deadbolt, so obviously one requirement for these locks to work is that your deadbolt engages easily.

    • @justusdj
      @justusdj 9 років тому

      +cjpenning You should be able to make adjustments to you door lock to fix that. I'll have to do this as well when i get a smart lock.

      ...or you can get a tapered deadbolt. August sells one on their site for 40.

    Okay, so it adds at least two electronic means of attacking your lock (remotely or within max BT range, wow) while still leaving the physical lock which can be defeated by traditional means? So... basically it just makes your lock more convenient and EASIER to break into. Brilliant!

    I'm about to order mine. Living in Sweden tho.

    I'm getting the Apple HomeKit version and the wifi connector!
    Going to be awesome!
    Thanks for a great review.
    And it definitely got me one step closer to buying it!

    Have one myself... works fine, a little slow to connect , but its fine.. I recommend lithium batteries in it to last the longest time... if your phone dies, you can use your key like normal... it does not remove that... but if you are like me, I want to remove the key as well... if you own a kwikset lock, you might as well leave your door unlocked and open as they serve no security at all.. one thing i wish this would to is minotr/log manual lock/unlocks... which currently it does not..

    Does this device make your main front and back door locks any less secure than the original lock? Seeing as it's a add-on module? Also my doors have like 3 to 5 prongs that pop out when you lift up the handle to lock the main doors, do you think this will cause an issue with this device? Thanks for your help would like to know some of these pitfalls before I make the purchases

    So I have a small closet in my room I’m moving into a new house.
    My 8 year old sister is living with us soon and I have fire arms.
    Would this be a good option for that door?

    What happens if you put your phone on a table near the door on the inside of your house? Won't it unlock the door if you accidentally leave it there? Or if your front door is near the stairs and you walk upstairs, does it unlock the door as you walk by?

    Disappointing: I currently use the Kevo at one location and would use it at my new house but the house has 12 doors Schilage locks - Kevo requires kwikset locks. August look like a viable alternative. However, I am concerned about the location services mechanism for unlocking the doors. It's frightening to think that in an intruder situation my proximity to the door might unlock it. The prospect of reaching into my pocket and launch an app every time I want to unlock the door is ridiculous. The Kevo has a touch sensitive bezel and unlocks with a simple tap.
    I was really hoping that your video would address how the August lock deals with the security holes created by A proximity key. But it did not.

    • @kevinoboyle8939
      @kevinoboyle8939 8 років тому

      I think you need to re-read my comment. Kevo unlocks when I touch the bezel of my door. so it won't unlock simply because I am proximate to my door. This is what August does and it is a security issue which you can only resolve by disabling the proximity feature and using an app (which is a usability issue)

      +andrew b ettinger I'm aware, but getting a nice lock when you can punch out the window and unlock it makes it even easier for those un-honest people.

      This door probably already had this weakness unless they had a removable key.

    • @PasnThrou
      @PasnThrou 8 років тому

      It's what-.05sec easier? So what. You're aware that a) 99.9% of those deadbolts have thumb turns anyway and b) many local building codes prohibit double-cylinder deadbolts for entry/exit doors, right? I didn't think so.

    • @PasnThrou
      @PasnThrou 8 років тому

      Exactly. There is *no* significant compromise in security, and this lock may had both convenience and utility to make it worthwhile.

      I think the best way is to keep a spare deadbolt key in the car or purse...
      I wondered about that.. but I think it also warns you if the batteries are dying so... bring the key and replace the batteries.

    we live in a world that nothing is unhackable making a claim like it is just not possible! I don't see how this is more security it makes it easier for tech savy thief!

    • @PasnThrou
      @PasnThrou 8 років тому

      Where is the claim that this was un-hackable? First, why does everybody thing the CIA or NSA or some BlackHat is out to hack every single person in the world.
      Second, a "tech-savvy" thief needs to KNOW you have a BT or WiFi lock to consider hacking it. Just about every other lock of this type has a distinctive look that tells the "tech-savvy" thief to try an electronic hack. There's no giveaway with this lock for the "tech-savvy" thief. From the outside, no one knows that it's installed.
      And locks only keep honest people out. A couple of blowhards here take about "better choices" when I and 97% of the adult population can just kick in most residential doors.
      People need to get real and objectively assess their threat level vs their security level.
      I see a couple of caveats with this lock, but overall it looks like a front runner in the category.
