    We appreciate everyone’s concern regarding the race car we’re building but let’s keep everything in perspective here. We’re not building the race car for the road, we’re building it to the requirements of TROG - The Race of Gentleman - pre war racing, flathead engines, bias ply tires, etc. We encourage you to do some research on the event, watch some UA-cam videos of the actual races, read the rules and requirements and it might start making sense to some of you who think we’re out of our mind 😆 (click link for photo reference - facebook.com/559300744084172/posts/5082129781801223/?d=n)

    Now! The purpose of a fire wall is to slow or stop flames from entering the cabin. With a perforated metal wall you do not have adequate protection from flames 🔥.

    CHAD, I am a “Total” fan of your show! I hate to challenge your choices! But, having some experience (I am 77 years young) with old dirt track “stock cars” (welding was expensive so we chained the doors shut) of the 40’s and 50’s era, you have made the driver a lot less safe by using perforated metal for firewall. Exhaust fumes, Un-burnt gas from carburetor, burning belts/coolant and tires - is ALL going to be going straight into the driver’s compartment - and that is very dangerous. I know your obsessed with “extra weight” …….. but this is a mistake! Carbon monoxide makes a driver firms sleepy - then they pass out.mJust saying ………..

    Name ANY car that has a perforated firewall. The idea is to stop hot or burning fluids and amazingly flames, from coming in contact with the occupants. What do you think will happen if a fuel line or water line lets go? Sometimes your ideas make no sense what so ever

  • @DavidBrown-mn3iy
    @DavidBrown-mn3iy 2 роки тому +57

    One more time for emphasis. The firewall is a safety device to keep bad stuff from the engine out of the driver’s compartment. A rod through the cylinder wall could easily result in hot burning oil spraying all over the engine compartment. Without a solidly sealed firewall, that oil, flame, smoke, etc. can find its way to the driver's compartment. With a perforated-metal firewall, that still could easily spray all over the driver. I doubt you plan to get a Top/Fuel-type fire suit for Jolene. If she’s racing in street clothes, she would have no protection from that fire. Please don’t make the firewall from perforated metal.

      They would surely require a firewall but I don’t know about a scattershield. Even though this old six would probably never see the northside of 4K RPM a nearly hundred year old cast-iron flywheel coming apart could do a ton of damage. It may already have several cracks in it and just waiting to come apart the first time the engine is revved high enough. We have to give this man credit for his effort though. Don’t forget he’s just another guy trying to make his way through the short time we have on this planet. They won’t let him get hurt at a sanctioned track/race

    Please tell me that you’re not gonna use perforated for firewall. God for bid you blow a hose or had a gas leak it’s gonna blow right into the passenger compartment I really would think you need a solid firewall

    Please please please, listen to all of the smart people watching and wanting you to replace the perforated firewall with solid steel, for beautiful Jolenes safety. Also what is the key switch contraption on the steering column, get rid of this too.

    Love the way you work through issues on the fly. I have done this some on the 27 T Rusty Rat I’m building. Keep up the spontaneous work. 👍
