In This Video: How do Americans say the R sound? This video will teach you everything you need to know.
Hi Christine , absolutely love your clear short solutions to our accented English . My problems are with combinations of R and L like girl girdle rail railway railroad also T and R like tree retro tropic triple .
Hi Zdenek, Thank you! I will make some videos to help with words with r and l together (this is a challenge for many speakers) and for t-r blends. In the meantime, you may find these videos about more advanced work on American R helpful:

Yes, it definitely takes some time and work, but you can get it!
Thank you
Thanks for your support!
Oh my god! I can't do that, so when pronouncing the R, does your tongue takes the same mouth position as in K and G? it turns out that the tip of my tongue is forced to point the back of the roof of my mouth!!
Hi Francisco - You are making what is called a "retroflex R," which is the other way to make the American R sound. In your case, the k and g cue is less helpful. You should still have your tongue braced against your teeth like you do for K and G, but it won't be bunched up in the back. Instead, the tongue tip curls up and pulls towards the back of the mouth. Many people use this retroflex R, so stick with it since changing to the bunched-tongue r would be difficult. You could try using an l-r exercise instead: say the syllable "ler" like in "miller." You should feel your tongue moving back as you go from the L sound to the R sound.
SpeechModification Hello, thank you for answering!! Okay I'll stick with the retroflex R you have said, could you please make another video describing how to do this kind of R sound in the correct way, I just want to be sure I'm making it correctly.
Thanks a million for all the materials you are providing us, they have really helped me a lot!!
Yes, I'll work on a video for retroflex R and let you know when it's up!
