Social media marketing, it's already competitive.
How are you going to stand out from the crowd when your mom and dad are already on Facebook?
Hey everyone, I'm Neil Patel, and today I'm going to share with you how you can stand out from the crowd with social media marketing.
Tip #1: Leverage the new innovative channels out there.
Facebook and Instagram are old.
But you know what? On these social sites, they continually innovate.
Who's Facebook trying to be? UA-cam. So what does Facebook roll out? Facebook Watch.
It's their version of showing live TV shows, just like UA-cam.
Facebook wants a slice of the action.
If you post your video content to Facebook, they'll instantly give you a ton of views.
Why? Because they want you to move all your video content over to Facebook. That's innovative, right?
#2: Be transparent.
The thing with marketing is that everyone sees it for what it is.
Consumers these days see right through the gimmicks.
So whatever you do, do you. But if you really want to stand out with social media marketing, be transparent.
Lying and telling people that they're going to get results that they're not going to get, it's just going to make people not like you.
Look at sites like smartpassiveincome.com run by Pat Flynn.
Pat was an architect, and now he's just like, "Hey let me create a blog telling people and showing them "how I'm making money online "and let me even show 'em my numbers "and prove that these are my real stats."
And people love it.
It's all about being transparent, his marketing has taken off, and he's one of the most popular bloggers and even podcasters out there because he's transparent.
And that's the cool part. By being transparent, you're gonna get a following of people being like, "Oh, cool, you're showing all of your amazing moments "and all your terrible moments."
If you want to be transparent with your social media marketing leave a comment with your ideas and I'll tell you if it's going to work or if it won't.
I've tested a lot of this stuff out, like on the Neil Patel blog; I shared my journey all the way from going from zero to a hundred thousand visitors a month.
#3: Use videos.
Look, you're watching me.
You know the past few months I've been doing a ton of videos, I've been going to conferences, events, and you know what people have been saying?
Neil, you have amazing content.
I'm like, "Great you love my content.
"What was the latest piece of content that you liked?"
I'm just trying to get feedback on how I can improve.
And they're like, "Oh, your video on X, Y, and Z topic."
They're not talking about my podcasts; they're not talking about my blog content even though my blog content gets way more traffic.
Everyone's talking about my video content. Why is that? It's because it's helping me build a deeper connection with you.
Sure, there are lots of comments on my videos, but I also do that in my blog comments. Why isn't my blog growing as fast? People want videos; it's how they connect with one another. So, create videos. It's not about text-based content these days; it's not about audio-based content, if you want to stand out from the crowd it's all about videos.
#4: Be a long-term thinker.
Look at Gary Vaynerchuk; you think he's successful, right? He is. Did it happen overnight? No, it didn't. He had Wine Library TV before that, then he created his agency, then did the DailyVee, and eventually, yes, you're seeing him everywhere, but it took him a long time before he got to where he is.
And the same with me. You think I'm an overnight success?
No, I've been doing this for over 16 years. That's a long time.
No, you don't have to put in 16 years like I am before you start seeing results and making money, but if you want to really succeed in the marketing world, you have to think of it as a three-plus year plan.
Don't expect amazing things in the first six months; you'll see some traction.
After the first year, you're going to start seeing growth. After the second year, things are going to start skyrocketing. After three years, assuming you're pushing hard every single week, then things are going to start blowing up. But, if you don't do it consistently you won't do well. It's all about the long game.
Follow these tips, if you're not sure which one of them you should be leveraging first in your social media marketing arsenal so you can stand out from the crowd leave a comment, I'll respond, and I'll help you out.

Another way to stand out from the crowd is basically just being yourself and being innovative. Copying everyone else isn’t going to make you stand out at all so you must differ from everyone else, that includes your content, lifestyle, habits, etc

Thank you! My advice is to set yourself up with a blank wall as your background. If you can, get a low-cost light, such as an LED panel light, so you're not in too much shadow. Then just start recording. You can find tripods that will hold your iPhone steady. Good luck!

So, if YT is my most viewed platform, but I have more followers on IG, and a third of that on my FB page, you recommend I focus on downloading my YT vids, uploading them to FB? Should I be uploading the beginning of my YT vids to IG as well? Or upload those same vids from IG to my FB page?

Totally ok with the long game. Just to get some idea though, how much traffic would be an acceptable figure at 6, 12, and 18 months to know if you're on the right track? I know this will depend on niche but what would the minimum numbers be that would indicate the idea and execution is sound (if no prior blog/seo experience?)

It can work, but I would only do it if you have a very specific purpose for doing so.

No, unfortunately, you'll have to start over with a fresh install. I think you can export the content, though, and upload it onto your new site.

Good tips. I know Facebook had video for a long time, but I this is the first time I'm hearing about Facebook Watch. I'll have to look into that. I think I get the process of creating a blog or UA-cam channel from your other videos as far as finding ideas from places like Buzzsumo or Quora, but I still feel uncertain about getting started. I'm interested in a lot of things (from tech, to body-weight training, to personal success), but I'm not an expert at anything. Should I do reviews about books I've read related to self development topics, or review computer technology and applications that interest me, or maybe give fitness tips I've come across? Are there other nches or sub-niches that make more sense or have more potential?
If you give Facebook Watch a try, let me know how it goes! I would go with personal experience. For instance, if you want to write about fitness, talk about your fitness journey. Try new exercises, dietary changes, etc. and report to your audience your results. Good luck!

Hey Abul, unfortunately, I can't tell you what to sell. You have to either create your own product or become an affiliate for someone else's product. You might make an informational product (such as a course or e-book) or something physical. Think about your personal strengths and what you're an expert on. Good luck!

Hey Saurabh, it can be difficult to shift to video, especially as an introvert. I would directly go to your followers, but practice first. Create videos that you have no intention of posting, then watch them to see how you would like to improve them. With practice, you'll gain confidence and get ready for your public debut :-)

Don't feel like you have to be picture perfect whenever you release your first video. People like watching others who are genuine, so your viewers will feel more of a connection to you if you don't try TOO hard to be perfect in your videos.

I am a sales consultant and one of the larger Chevy dealerships in Michigan. I used to use social media to market health and fitness products because that was comfortable. I am down for video and audio, I even enjoy doing it. I am struggling to come up with some innovative ideas on how to make myself stand out to the customers while maintaining a sense of professionalism. I am searching for any ideas on how to generate leads for myself at the dealership and am willing to completely jump outside of the box. Any suggestions??? I will probably do them. I suggest testing a lot of different ideas to see what resonates the best. Be creative. Put yourself in the shoes of someone looking to buy a car to see what they might want to hear/learn about before deciding where to go.
Needless to say as always, Outstanding content Neil. Quick question though, how would one access Facebook Watch? I know right...but I can be a little technologically challenged sometimes. Not quite the Guru...yet, but I'm catching up. Thanks for mentioning the transparency, I think audiences are sick and tired of Sport Cars, Yachts and Fancy Island Getaways (I know I am) but mostly that desperation that sets in once Reality kicks the empty promises out.
Long term thinking, I believe the only difference between super successful people and the ones not quite as successful...yet, is Time. I must admit that my current visitor count is not that impressive, but the stats are with an average page views of 2-5 and stay duration from 10-30 minutes. That's exactly what I'm after.

Once I have my Blog Page 1, I can spend more time with this Facebook Video "Thing". Did post some of my best videos as a tester, while spending more time beating SEO into submission...lol! Took quite some work getting here, as I started in 2012 with absolutely NO Computer skills. I couldn't even copy/paste (True Story), which needless to say, I used to be a Technological Dinosaur. Been intensely focusing on Blogging and SEO for the last 2 odd years or so. I will most definitely be a regular with your work, love the simplicity.

Hi Neil I've just come across your channel. I have no marketing experience but am convinced it is key to my future success.
