I've been working with Power BI for a couple years now and have begun to work with PowerApps. The possibilities of this integration between the two products is truly "bananas"!! Great video for getting the word out about combining these two technologies!
André Pinheiro depends on your needs. From what I know so far, think of PowerApps as the means to enter and update data and PowerBI as the means to share and report out data. Do you have a need to capture data through a form like tool? If so, explore PowerApps. The power (no pun intended) of PowerApps and Power BI is amazing!
I just wanted to tank you for these videos. I learned so much from this channel and that's what allowed me to drastically improve the quality of work at my company. in addition, it helped me really show value and got me a promotion.
Thanks fr this video , I have small clarification on to use POWER apps , I am using Azure tabular model as source for my power Bi report . So its live connection with tabular cube . Is it possible use the power apps here and edit the power BI report also . Could you please clarify this ? Its really urgent requirement for me . Because i could't see model tab in my power bi report since its connected as live connection
I know I'm coming to this late, but since you are editing the file on the PBI service, it makes the PBI that was worked on in PBI Desktop obsolete right? So do you save the file back down and post that to source control after doing all the updates?
So can I use this tutorial to build a power app that input KPI statistics through a form on power app and this data is embedded into a KPI power Dashboard?
Once again, thank you! This is great, but why shouldn't I do the same thing in PBI Desktop? Why I need to do this in the Service? I mean, it's going to be painful for version controlling (adding PowerApps App every time we re-upload the report).
@ A Jääskeläinen, PowerApps is 100% online, so the only way to initially add the PowerApp to the custom visual is to do it on the service. Once you've done that step, download the pbix and you'll find that it remembers which PowerApp you embedded. You can then blissfully republish/re-upload your PowerBI report as often as you like! Top tip: watch you don't change the names of the attributes you mention in your PowerApp (they ain't dynamic). Hope this helps!
I tried the same thing with online share point list as a service. The new data entered through power app is updated once refreshed in power bi desktop but it’s not working the same in power bi online! Can you help me why so? Thanks.
Having issues, my data source is share point so not direct query, either way when I add fields to the visual they don't seem to be available on power apps...
Where is the data going for the Power Apps entry? I have done this and linked to a Sharepoint List for the data, but I see no option for Direct Query. Am I missing something? Is there a better connection I should be using?
If you instantly update your data with power apps, is there a way that these actions can become permanent records in a table/view in Azure Data Studio or Databricks?
What code was on the item properly of the edit for, you demonstrated the patch but I'm having a bit of trouble getting the form to populate based on gallery selection
great video!!! Is there an alternative to the SQL connection so that PowerBI refreshes instantly? Would connecting via DataVerse in a table under Powerapps provide instant refresh? Would any other way provide instant refresh?
How to refresh power bi dataset from power app when Power BI Source is not direct query e.g Excel on OneDrive etc , as Power integration.Refresh() will refresh power bi dataset if source is of Direct Query type say SQL etc?
Guys am using excel and when I dropdown on the Storage Mode, I only see Import enabled while Direct Query and Dual Storage is disabled. How do I enable it?
Hi Patrick, Very nice video. One question I have, If I have created reports from excel data source, then Is it possible to write back to excel using Power Apps and our reports are updated according? If yes, then how?
Hi, Nice video. I have a problem, because the first time I open the app in powerapp's editor it works perfectly. After I save and try to reopen the app or using it, ther is no info at all and the fields turn blank. Please tell me if there is any clue about what might has happened, Thank you

This is brilliant. I have something similar setup but not with DirectQuery. What is the data source type you use that you read in PBI and write in PA that supports DirectQuery? Thanks for a great show
Hi Patrick, awesome video!! I have only one question. Is it correct that both Power BI and the Power App get their data from a data source like SQL server? Thank you in advance for your answer!
Just what I need. this is awesome. my one question, say i have already created report pages over a data model with a lot of tables and all the tables are imported into power BI. Do you have to change the import type of all the tables in the report or just the ones affected by the possible update by a user?
Hi Patrick, Love the videos! One quick question on this one: Why is it important to upload the report to the PBI service before adding the Power Apps visual? For context, I missed that step and now I can't get the Power Apps visual to load in the service no matter what I do (darn it, it works fine in the PBI desktop!).
Really great functionality! But what about security? Let's say you provide one only user with write access to some particular table. Let's say for editing products or address records... Is there any way for preventing break-in? If anyone gets credentials of this write permitted user, can he extend his permissions to delete the table he has access to via editing the App?
Hi Patrick We are trying to create a workflow where we want to embed a PowerApps form in Power BI to collect daily sign-off from different leads on the daily profits and loss (P&L). For this we need to pass P&L number calculated in Power BI to the form, so that the lead can approve, this approval is then saved in SharePoint list with leads comments. Is it feasible to pass calculated numbers/measures from Power BI to Power Apps to populate certain blank items of a form? Note: The profit and loss calculation is done a massive data model which we don't want to re-implement in Power Apps.
Anyone else experiencing the PowerBIIntegration.Refresh() bug? The bug occurs when you call the function and all the filtered records disappear, leaving all the visualizations blank as there are no data filtered. It only started happening after the most recent wave of updates.
Hello, thank you for the videos. Is it possible to export a power bi visualisation in a power app, and then create a mobile app with power bi dashboard? Thank you for your videos, they are very good and helpful. Dhia (from France)
Will this also work when you collect your data in PowerApps first with a ClearCollect function and base your fields on this collection? Great video btw!

This is so great!!!! I have one concern though. Let's say I have a report in mixed mode (both Import and Direct Query). I was able to edit Direct Query tables through my Power App, and changes gets reflected automatically, great!. Now, I also need direct impact on a calculated column of an Import Table. Calculated column, just like with slicers, does not gets updated. I'm able to create a measure, but I cannot use it as axis or columns in my visuals. Is there another alternative? I'm so close to get what I'm looking for for months now! Thank you for your great channel!

Hey guys, great vid as usual. Did have a question - is it possible to make an update via the Power App (which still reflects in all the relevant visuals in Power BI) but have an option to discard changes and revert back? So I wouldn't necessarily want it to write back to the Power App per se. Hope I've explained that well. Thanks

I'm a little bit confused. I always create and update report pages in Power BI desktop. If I create the Power App in Power BI Service Edit mode and save, then go back to my pbix file to continue on with my reports, the new visual isn't there (fair enough because it was not created in the pbix file. Then if i amend another page in Desktop and publish obviously the power App disappears. Basically, Are we saying that we can only add the PowerApp when we have totally finalised the reports and we don't need to amend the pbix file anymore? for me, that's not something I can do because we are always have more updates to add. Surely you should be able to add this into the pbix file?
Yeah that part can be frustrating. You would need to re-setup the PowerApp if you re-published from Power BI Desktop. Although in the September 2019 release of Power BI Desktop, the PowerApp visual is a native visual now but I believe the steps are the same.

I think the problem I am having is the fact that the PowerAPP I have created was created via PowerAPPS itself - where I think the suggestion is I should have created it via the Create app link in the PowerBI PowerApps visual. Ive tried doing that but the App builder generates an app so far different to the app I want to create. In the video they link to an existing app - the question is whether that app was created via PowerApps or the PowerBi PowerApps visual. Some clairty would be great on this. Why does my powerapp suggest that the PowerBiIntegration.Refresh() function does not exist

Wow - this is the real deal! You should consider doing more than power BI if you can keep it this simple and relevant. #respect
Appreciate that Mangesh. Definitely something to consider. 👊
Great, now I can also use Power Apps in Power Bi, Tried it and it works perfectly. Thanks Patrick.
Yup! It provides a great synergy.
Hi Etienne, what data source did you use for directquery that is supported by both PBI and PA ?
Thanks!
Patrick, I can think of so many stuff we can potentially achieve with this integration! You are right, it's "bananas"!!! As always, thanks!

Hi Patrick, Please try to do more videos on Power Apps .I really understand the way to explain with scenarios
Not opposed to doing more. But, we focus primarily on Power BI, so we try to tie everything back to Power BI.
