8:09 You can also parameter lock the sample on the same track if you don't want to set up or use up a whole part if all you are doing is swapping a tom for a snare.
@@armintam5arian Yeah the lock is on the step, so you can have a different sample on each step if you want. You just hold the step down and turn the level encoder to access the list of samples popes up for the machine type you have assigned.
@@robertsyrett1992 This is the way. Imo changing parts is really more for having different fx, routing setups available on the fly or totally reworked tracks.
gotta say, the angle you come at, describing parts here, is perfect. newbies gotta solidly nail machines, tracks, patterns, banks and scenes before going anywhere near em.
Commenting to say I enjoyed Nathan Lane’s performance in the People vs O.J. Simpson. Glad to confirm the long held suspension that he’s an Octatrack user.
Messy Desk is one of my favorite UA-camrs despite having zero interest in the Octatrack. Maybe Octadad and Octamom could just do self-loathing comedy/therapy ASMR videos for a month?
you are exactly correct! each bank holds four parts and 16 patterns, and you can change between them seamlessly so it’s not too bad for performance either.
Now that I know what the hell parts are, this makes sense. Only thing I might add is that the four parts are *per bank*. So for beginners out there, an I think instructive exercise is to simply try to copy the presets from bank A to bank B. You will quickly start to see that a pattern is really made up of the sequence and its parts, which includes its machines, samples, fx chains, and scenes.
That seems a bit harsh. Seems like the self-deprecation is primarily just part of his brand of comedy. Also, calling someone "that little spoiled kid who always wants to be different from the others" probably isn't gonna make them love themself more, but what do I know, I'm not a psychologist.

how do i do that? ... does this mean i can use on one track 2 different samples (like on the DT)?

@@robertsyrett1992 thank you!
Another way to do that is to live-play your samples in in "slots" mode, that will automatically lock samples to trigs.

and elektron was so nice not to implement a single task which saves all recordings at once. Thats really nice and userfriendly. I love it.
Alot of things clicked for me on this short video. Thank you!
the nathan lane content i needed
awsome video, i love comedies.
You are hilarious bro ! Love your vids. Thanks Daniel
Thank you!!! Great video, great guy
Misunderstanding parts has ruined so many of my jams over the years, holy hell.
maybe a stupid question… if you wanna change more than four times, what to do? change bank and have another four new parts to use?
you are exactly correct! each bank holds four parts and 16 patterns, and you can change between them seamlessly so it’s not too bad for performance either.
If only I had this video 1 year ago 😂 I learnt all these things by the school of hard knocks. New users pay attention!
you can use scenes and parameter locks as an alternative to parts
Burned that Nathan Lane bridge real fast. Hahahah
FYI - cuckoo has a great video on okta memory/ storage stuff that can help too
Great video today.

I have definitely wrecked projects using the second method.
Octadad, we love your talking, do more (and where are the memes)!?
Func+rec3 is quicker to save current recording
I didn't understand a single word you just said. Had a great time watching nonetheless, as always.
Function play will always be my enemy
As will function cue 🙄
I came here to talk about tinkerbell.
But I'll stay for your witty commentary.
If you don’t understand calculus, you won’t understand this machine. I’ve had it for six month and I haven’t made a project yet.
Always good videos but honestly and really... just get on with it. More flower than power, friend.
Dude, can you just please start to love yourself already? You’re like that little spoiled kid who always wants to be different from the others

Yeah please stop being depressed already. Just be happy you know. It's easy. /s
@@Curzik140 Okay, maybe the compliment was too abstract and the way to there a bit too dark.
@@sungazer454 it was also just a really dumb thing to say - Octadad is great and we love him!
@@DanielD.mp3 Yeah, everyone loves Octadad but Octadad, that little spoiled kid
Hey I just wanted to say that Nathan Lane's career is still going.
