Hi MrTeabag58 .... That is very good to hear sir! Very pleased that you enjoyed this and thank you so much for taking a moment to let me know. Much appreciated. Richard
An excellent blend of expert clock repair with a well illustrated back story from Lt Col Tim. This is the sort of documentary / educational piece that mainstream TV will never produce. So I'm bloody glad you did Richard. Great work, thank you.
I just completed reading "A Suspicion of Spies" by Tim Spicer. Excellent book. Highly recommended. Any WW2 and history buff will really enjoy it. Thanks for the recommendation and the interview snippets in this repair video.
What an honour Richard. This just proves to me it's not just the piece, it's the story behind the piece. Thank you for sharing and for doing it so well and up close in macro-photography 🙏 Beautiful!!!
@@richardperrettwatchmaker What a weird response from eBay...determining the winner??? I've NEVER seen that come up before 🤔 Still, a winning bid is a winning bid, it was destined 👍👍👍
Hi Richard, what can I say that others have not already said. Fantastic repair, superb story. You keep getting better and better. Please do not stop entertaining us.
What a fantastic story. What a character playing a part in what would be the turning point in WW2. The bravery, and intelligence of the people behind the scenes of this time in history should be an example to us all. I sat mesmerized as the story unfolded. As a history buff, I find this time in the history of our world fascinating. Well done Sir, well done!!
It is such a good, an little known I think story, Bruce! This is great feedback to receive so thank you so much for taking a moment to write it. Much appreciated. Richard
This is the best video I've watched this year, it combines my 2 favourite subjects, watches and S.I.S. I look forward to reading Tim's book. Bloody good work Richard.
Hi Jimmy! Thank you sir .... yes, as you know there is 'quite a lot of work' goes into a film like this. Thanks for taking a moment to highlight this! Richard
I have a “car condo” mostly car guys with collections own these spaces and one of the owners has a massive car collection and owns the General Montgomery staff rolls. He even has pics of dignitaries inside and standing by it. Amazing history and thank for posting !!
Watching this again as a result of a very enjoyable conversation , a brilliantly executed restoration of such an important piece of horological excellence, with a story of true provenance, brilliant Richard , the ‘ Colonel ‘ could be a bond himself , very charismatic !! Lights out time ….. 😴
@@richardperrettwatchmaker You're more than welcome Richard. I must admit that your Bronze and White watches are on my bucket list. Do you offer instalments/book tokens?
Referring back to watches,it never ceases to amaze me that we have screws so small that viewed with the naked eye they appear no bigger than a fly spec on a window pane AND have a thread on them.....................................................................
Hi Russell .... the threads that amaze me the most are the tiny ones on the gold timing screws. These are very small indeed and cut into gold which is pretty soft. Thanks for sharing. Richard
I thought it was a restoration of the Omega Watch 59-8Ds - not the clock...??? - But as others have said, this was a Fantastic story, the history and the fabulous restoration, even though it was the clock...??? I think you've outdone yourself on this one. Thank you so much for the journey... Kudos to you..!!
Great feedback! The back story on this film is powerful I think which helped me a lot. Very pleased you enjoyed it and I appreciate you taking the time to let me know. Richard
Hi jatco84 ... To clarify the Omega 59-8D is an oversized watch mechanism and has a lot more in common with a large watch than a clock in everything other than size. Biffy's Omega 59-8D came in the form of a desk clock as did the donor but if I was going to train a watchmaker on watch movements I would start with something like this movement as it has all the components of a watch but slightly oversized. The Donor is listed on eBay a Pocket Watch for this reason. Hope this clarifies. Richard
The whistling S brings bach memories from an English grandpa that one holiday in france told hours of stories about the war in which he fought. Unexpected youthsentiment
You are not alone Donald! This is a theme in the comments and despite it donating more than is shown in this edit I am beginning to think that I should maybe bring the donor back to life .... without creating another donor! Richard
Hello Richard. For me, this is undoubtedly your best film so far; so interesting and informative. How on Earth are you going to better this? Do you know how the wheel was damaged? May I bless you and yours and your business grow and prosper? Respect. (And may you never run over a goat!) G
Hi Gerald! Great feedback sir! The Dunderdale story is a very interesting one for sure and I am delighted you enjoyed it. Not sure how the crown wheel teeth got stripped off but it is consistent with a sudden, uncontrolled release of the powerful double mainspring torque! Richard
Good stuff. What about the donor clock? As a fairly valuable piece, would it be possible to get the donor wheel replaced, or will it just languish, unloved and forgotten in a drawer?
Good to hear from you Sergeant_Fury! So the donor actually donated more than is in the edit of this film so restoring it also is a problem. It is currently an assembled collection of spares for the more historically important piece .... but maybe I should make a film called 'restoring the donor!'. Hope this clarifies! Richard
I need help fixing a fusse late 1800s pocket watch. It looks exactly like one you repaired a few years ago. Can you help me nobody here in the states has any idea what to do with it? It’s a beautiful work of art and I would love for it to run again.
The Brasso at the end brings back fond memories of hours spent polishing cap badges, belt buckles and other brass accouterments prior to a parade while swapping stories. 😉
@@michaelwoodbodley8099 The only Brasso I've ever see or used was pink sludge in a tin bottle. I believe the wadding is for the explicit use of officers (with pinky extended of course) above the rank of Captain. 🤪
Yes da___man I agree! It's on a list but that list is not so very short! I think it would be very good to get the donor back in action without creating another donor! Thanks for the feedback. Richard

A sublime mix of espionage and escapements. BTW I normally slam my highest bid in at about 8 seconds. This won’t give the opposition time to react.
