Its all about survival, if a govt does not create wealth but create poverty, the natural human response is to find a way to survive. So blame the damn leadership who impoverish our country.
The problem is in a great part due to the American mentality of getting something for nothing. Lets face it why do you think you have won money if you have not entered a lottery? i think its up to us here in the united states to teach and get the word out to our elderly about these scams. We shouldn't treat them like they don't know any better when need to take the time to explain to them how these scams work or show them this video
I actually showed my mother this video and explained things after the first scam. We talked a lot about it. The first time she sent out a bank draft to a mule ( another person being scammed) in Illinois but by luck and some work we actually got someone to convince that mule to hand over the 10k bank draft. My mother ended up losing just $400 on that scam. But it happened again. This time she lost 7k. We recovered only 3k, although insurance covered that. The third time it happened they called saying that she was going to get her money back from the second scam and she believed them. I only found out because the bank called me. On the third scam she lost an additional $400 on that one. I changed both the home phone number and the cell phone number and the settings on the cell phone to block all Jamaican numbers, any suspected scammers, and it will take calls only from those on the contact list. Changing numbers is absolutely required if you are getting calls from Jamaicans because it means you are on one of their call lists. My mother is not suffering from dementia she is still the card shark she's always been, etc but she has become more trusting and gullible. I've always been a suspicious type personality. Now another family lives with her and knows everything going on. One thing to look out for is frequent calls from the same number. These bastards call you night and day and begin working on your mind. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them do voodoo on their victims. My point here is keep track of your elders phone history and change their settings and their numbers if these bastards ever start calling them. Don't just rely on showing this show every year to them.

None of that comment even makes any sense!
You cannot educate visitors enough to avoid this scamming. Their tricks are unbelievable and these guys can lie a lot, and they are very deceptive.
Dan Rather was such a good journalist.
Dan is a wonderful human being.
At 10:00 I just wanted to slap the damn food out of the fool's paws.
+AJ Lawler XDDD
AJ Lawler me too. that smacking while eating was driving me nuts. gotta give him credit they didn't sgake him one bit
If you can get a chance hope u do, n find out why Jamaica is the killing capital of the world
Jo Johnson?
@@chalimuzikproductions1922 should be the killing capital of these fuckers!! Kill them all, if they call my grandma, mother, anyone close to me, I will personally go and slap that food out of his mouth, and then shoot his ass dead!!
Scamming is a crime that should be punished by the maximum penalty the gives. It has caused deaths and sadness to too many people not involved in it.
Do you really believed that a scammer is going to tell you that he is a scammer. Oh boy, please use another statics
Jamaica is such a beautiful country
😌🌹thanks you should visit 😊

Take scammers house away if convicted
It’s not in their names. lol
Dan rather might not get no where. but vice magazine. These people are have no soul its a game.. they dont care. evertying in Jamaica is scam. even police.. its a way of life..
we go to Jamaica every Feb for several weeks, have been since 1993. I love it there, never had any problems. But then again I have situational awareness and kno where not to go and who not to talk to.
Wow! Those houses are huge and beautiful, courtesy of their naive victims. Oh Lord, when will the wicked cease their troubling, and the weary be at rest. This world! 🌎 oh dear! 🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂. Cheers and beers 🍺 mates!
A lot of those houses have nothing to do with scamming. Hard working jamaicans abroad doing two and tree jobs, I am talking from experience
@@MD_ENTERTAINMENT Exactly. Doctors, business owners, mechanics, construction workers - many Jamaicans from all fields of work. And many of them take years to build their houses too. I'm working on mine and I live in the U.K.

The people too dam greedy I didn't big no lotto from anywhere why would I send my money to people I never had business with
Mr Dan Rather good investigative journalism, but even though you have covered the police officers face, you have failed to cover they badge number on their vest, leaving the officers vulnerable. Just my two cents on the matter.
My question is, what happens to money found from scammers? What do they do with it?
Them tek it, Thief thief from thief god laugh u nuh kno that saying? 😂
Instead of locking of scammer fix the society in Jamaica cause if tye country wasn't so corrupt ppl wouldn't haven't to do this
Ugliest, most tackiest house EVER, built right in the middle of a SLUM.
THIS STORY IS SO SAD.
Very informative video.
The US its self can't do away with this problem or most of the other problems of crime we have because money if you have enough will get your free.
just hang up is not enough, dont pick up, you pick up once shows this number is alive, when there is an unknown number i dont pick up at all, they will give up eventually
Organized Crime, Police and Politicians are i volved
This must be the worst investigative journalist in the history of life
Get phone with built-in answering machine, landline and STOP answering all unrecognized numbers!! Many of these phones have a call block button, USE IT!!
I am from India and we too have lots of people calling us and saying that we have won the lottery . Depending on my mood I tell the caller to shove the prize money into his mother's _____ or use it for her funeral .
And yes , I also tell him that his telephone number will be forwarded by me to the Crime Branch officers of the city . I never get a second call from the same number .
Jamaicans don't call India for nothing what are they going to say when Indians can't even speak or understand basic English? Useless comment.
Nice one 😊
This is off the topic, but I couldn't help hearing Leo Sayer's 1977 hit, "When I Need You" in the background at the 10:00 mark.
How many Jamaican get 20 yrs in prison for Scamming ......none...damn liars.
😁
At 12:10 there are 5000 Jamaican dollars which equal 32.00. Apparently, this report presents the "evidence" as a "dent" in the scamming business, the confiscated money should be around 1000USD which is the Jamaican business is the petty cash box.
It is said around 300 million USD is coming into Jamaica from lottery scamming every month. your maths is way off
This was ten years ago. So sad it still goes on - romance scams on Facebook now.
The senior citizens (victims) need educating and more public adverts to prevent this.
